I am an avid road cyclist and came to Alicante to watch the Volvo ocean race, and as a side…read moreactivity I thought I would check out renting a bicycle and doing some riding in the amazing looking mountains just inland of Alicante, el Campello and area. I found Ochoa bikes on line and paid them a visit. not only did they have great rental prices on mountain bikes and road bikes, the owner , who spoke very good English also recommended some great rides. Wow! I was hooked. After one ride up road cv777 to Busot from the beach in el Campello I realized that this is one of the best places I've ridden. Although there is a lot of climbing involved to experience the best roads, the scenery is stunning, the pavement is perfect although shoulder less and there is very little vehicle traffic. we came here in mid October so the weather is just about perfect for cycling. The high temperature was about 30c and night time temps are around 15c. Most days the noon temperature was around 20 to 25. Back to the bike shop, ... I rented a carbon bike called a couleur which is equipped with 105 components and they give you tools pump and spare tube to take with you when you rent it. I little pouch on the bike would have been handy. The price was very good I thought. 22 euros for the first day and 12 after that. I bought a very high quality full zip jersey at the shop for 34 euros and took a look around and found their prices very fair. Back to the riding... all of the road leading North from el Campello are amazing! Cv 777 , CV 773and CV 775 all head inland and upward. The view of the Mediterranean become spectacular pretty quickly. the gradient going inland varies from flat to 6% for the first 5 Kms or so no matter which route you take. Then you can chose your destination from there. The nice thing is that no matter where you go it's pretty well downhill to get back to the coast. some of the great rides I did were to Relleu and back , with a side trip to the cava del canalobres. (Candelabra caves) 78kms, 1350 m of climb. a loop up CV800 (which is a little busier but has paved shoulder) to Xixona ,east on CV774 to Busot then 773 to 775 and back down to el Campello 47 Kms 550 m climb. CV 777 North to Busot to Aigues and back down 775 40 Kms, 400 m. Climb. You can also keep heading inland past Releu into the mountains for even more great rides with more climbs and great loops which we drove in our rental car. there are lots of cyclist on the road and even more mountain bikes. Very awesome area for cycling and a great shop to deal with.

The electric bike stopped working 15 minutes into the sessions so in the end... it was just a regular bike with higher € rent. Next time I would stick with a scooter instead. Decathlon is a French sporting goods retailer with some 850 stores in 22 countries. The store in La…read moreZenia (Orihuela Costa), Spain is huge and it offers a very wide range of sports clothing and equipment. The retailer owns and manages some 20 (!) brands of its own: Kalenji (running), Inesis (golf), Quechua (outdoors and camping) etc. Although they are all "store brands" you trust them a bit more as they are focused on different types of sports. They don't try to sell you dance leggings and fishing rods under the same brand name :) In most cases their own brands are in the inexpensive range with fair quality. In the upper price range Decathlon stocks well known brands like Nike, Adidas, Asics etc. If you are not really into a particular kind of sport - say you want to try fishing and you're not sure if you will like it - then Decathlon's store brands are a great way to start. Then, when (and if) you are able to tell the difference - you may want to switch to other brands. I guess this is their strategy and it serves them really well - their stores are very popular everywhere they open. I liked their golf section. They stock golf clubs, bags, balls, clothing, shoes, gloves, grips you name it! You can trade in your old clubs for new ones here. Golf shoes prices start from some 25 euros, there's a wide choice, both with spikes and without spikes. From Inesis to Adidas and Ecco. It rarely rains in this area but they carry rubber boots with golf spikes! :) Buying shoes online can be tricky (you better try shoes :) ) and Decathlon is a great solution. If you want to make a personalized gift to someone (or to yourself) - you can have your name/logo printed or engraved on a product from Decathlon in their customization workshop. The also repair stuff here - they will change your bike's tires for example. There's a loyalty program - you can register online or in store. They say you can "try products" in store having a card - does that mean you can play table tennis for as long as you want? Or did they refer to a golf simulator? Anyway, I signed up! There's only one reason why I try to avoid frequent visits - I can spend hours there every time I go :-)
