If you want affordable, good prints and friendly service this is the place to go! Been going for 2 years and really missed it when I moved out of Manchester for a while - definitely recommend.

As I was only in here looking for a new pouch, I kept myself to myself, and just considered my pouch option. Unfortunately, the pouches in here are all well expensive. Nigh on twenty quid just for something to put your camera in? Seems a tiny bit much. I will consider my options online.

Internet Café wise, there are five or six terminals with partitions so that people can't see what you're saying to your long-distance girlfriend on yahoo messenger. There's far more to say about the range of photography services Photo Express offer though. They provide wedding photography and filming services, as well as studio portraits. And if you're stuck and in a rush, it's worth noting that Photo Express will also do you six passport photos for £4 and you won't have to sit in a horrible booth interacting with an annoying machine in some horrible corner of a train station to get it done.

Jessops in Manchester is located at the end of Market Street, near enough opposite two large stores…read morein Debenhams and Primark, although this store is dwarfed by both of them, it is still quite a large store, over three floors. After passing Jessops on countless occasions as a frequent visitor to the city centre of Manchester, I thought I'd call in today to take a quick look around the store, especially with it recently re-opening after the refurbishment. The digital photo printing machines were okay, they still were slightly old and didn't stand out, they didn't seem as posh, vibrant and up to date, they just lacked, which one wouldn't expect from a store of this kind. The staff seemed a little too helpful, which was annoying, there was too many staff and they all seemed overally enthusiastic even when one member of staff had asked if I could help, someone else did, which I can't understand, it felt like the staff were trying to out-do each other and trying to run a pool out of which one the customers prefer. There is a small lift and staircase connecting the floors, however, i remained on the ground floor, the ground floor was slightly small and I would have preferred everything to be on one floor for ease. There was a small, decent range of cameras, I'm not a photographer and with my excellent camera on my Iphone 7 Plus, which is amazing the photos it can capture, I sadly don't feel the need for this expensive equipment with my phone but obviously there is a small market for it now, it is actually ironic Apple often use the space above this store and Market Street to advertise their phones and products including the camera. Overall, slightly frustrating service and other issues mentioned, I sadly feel this branch of Jessops only warrants a slightly generous two star rating.

And although this can be quite amusing it is quite annoying if you actually want advice on a camera. They are VERY overpriced. They claim to price match the competition which makes you think "Ah this is going to be a good deal"......but no.....it turns out they won't match any of the other local camera shops.....let alone Amazon (Amazon was ALOT cheaper). Delivery time.....lets say you get past the cluesness and the overpicedness and buy something from them and think "sod it I'm here now". Don't expect anything they claim will "get delivered the next day" to show up anytime soon.......or indeed at all.......infact they won't even tell you when it will show up. Will your new camera arrive tomorrow, in a week, in a month, in a year......who knows. Well maybe they do know but they sure as hell won't share that information with you. Now onto the good stuff.......they LOVE their insurance. It's very hard to talk to them about anything without them trying to charge you extra to insure it. Camera, Lens, Memory Card, Bag of Crisps a set of photographic dog turd bags. You name it they want to sell you insurance for it. And they don't like "no" as an answer. Honestly don't bother. Wex Photography are just down the road and they have people who have not only have seen a camera before but actually know how it works (and they are much cheaper).

When I noticed that this shop was empty a couple of weeks ago, I was quite sad. Then I thought…read moreabout the last time I'd actually been into a photo shop, and I wasn't really surprised. However, this week I noticed that the shop had been re-decorated and had re-opened. It had always looked old fashioned and had advertised a 20 minute photo service, which in this day and age isn't really an attraction. Gone are the days when you couldn't wait 3 weeks for your holiday snaps to come back in the post so took them into a shop. Now we need a 20 second service or we'll just go online and order our prints for 2p each. Max Spielmann have finally caught up with the times and installed 2 brand new photo machines where you can put in your memory card and print your photos immediately. There is another screen where you can see what the staff are doing to your pics if you want to order coasters with your best friends' faces on, or a canvas of that arty photo you took in Thailand, for example. However, the main service that this little branch now seems to offer is the baby / child photo service. The window is now used to display massive posters with cute baby photos on, and you can see into the shop where there is a sheepskin blanket for your little ones to pose on. The best thing is that this service is free, although I suppose if you'd gone to that much effort then you'd feel obliged to purchase the snaps - a set starts at £5.99. I guess this may work in Chorlton where there are lots of young families, but with an abundance of arty types with posh SLRs, maybe they'd rather do it themselves? Only time will tell.

Then I was pointed towards a 5 minute walk along wilmslow road to find a photo studio and it was then that I stumbled upon Photo Point! Photo Point is a cute little photo studio doing all the edits, the printing and of course clicking of the photos that you want. The girl behind the counter was very friendly and cheerful (I know that cheerful has got nothing to do with the shop, but a cheery face always makes your moments nice and easy), and she very quickly took care of my plea. Within minutes I had the photographs in my hand and unlike the wretched photo boots which charge £4 for just 4 photos, this place gave 8 photos for just £6! So its double the amount for just 2 quid extra! My visit was delightful and I've mentioned this place to many by now, you're the next one!

Its good to have a camera shop though, rather than just shopping online. Firstly, the most obvious benefit is that you get to actually hold the cameras and see if you like the feel of them before buying. Another benefit is that if you're anything like me, and you don't know much about cameras at all, you'll be able to ask someone to help you, which you obviously cannot do online. However, though I haven't researched it, it might be that its cheaper online. So you may want to go in and decide, then check the prices online. But then again, that feels a bit harsh on the little shop. They also do other camera related services such as passport photos.

One small catch - you'll need to max out your overdraft to afford anything. Still, it is veritable eye candy if you are a budding photographer, and the man in the shop was most friendly and even valued an old Canon camera my boyfriend found in a charity shop free of charge. If you're not into photography the Arcade itself is worth a visit, it's clearly been beautifully maintained and the wrought iron staircase and almost entirely glass structure is a joy to behold. 'Stephen' is also perfectly happy to estimate the value of non-Leica cameras, assist with enigmatic mechansims and suggest batteries - a true camera enthusiast who really knows his stuff!
