In the 1800's Chinato was a medicinal tonic, much like Coke or Pepsi was back in the day. Mauro Vergano spent many years making Chinati as a hobby. . A chemist and enologist, He picked up tonics from a pharmacist relative. He now makes an Americano Vino Aromatizzato which is a great Chinato wine blend. Nice bitterness but a great smooth finish.
