Stopped by with a big group of friends after church service last Sunday and had a great time trying various Filipino dishes. I was excited to see various breakfast platters on the menu and ordered a tapsilog for myself; my husband ordered the lechon kawali because it's one of his favorite dishes, and we split the lumpia and turon with the rest of our group. The lumpia and turon were both excellent - I loved the thin wrappers of the lumpia and it was perfectly crisp. Filling was very savory. Turon was not bad - I feel like the filling was a bit dry, but I liked that there were also bits of dried jackfruit (?) mixed in with the banana. The fried beef in my tapsilog was pretty dry and tough; I wouldn't order that breakfast platter again, but the garlic fried rice was good and the fried egg was perfectly cooked. I tried the pork in my friend's tocilog and it was quite good too. My husband's lechon kawali was great; the meat was tender/juicy and the skin was puffy and crisp. Others in our party got various items like the sisig, adobo, and beef stew, and enjoyed their meals as well. Service is pretty slow here, especially when the restaurant starts to fill up, but it's a great option close to home and I would definitely come back to try other menu items in the future! read more

We love this place. My wife and I recently decided to eat here on a whim and absolutely fell in love. It's a brightly-lit strip mall style ethnic restaurant with a small section for Filipino style groceries in the front and it's ran by two very sweet Filipino women who were patient and kind and very welcoming to us. We had the lumpia, which were delicious, the bbq pork skewers, which were exquisite, and the chicken inasal, which is an absolute must. We've done maybe three pick up orders since our first visit. We just stumbled on this place in a small area where a cluster of Asian eateries are located. We don't have much experience with Filipino food, so we took this random opportunity to try. We came in after lunch hour on Saturday. There were only a couple of people inside, but I saw people come in for takeouts. The lady at the order counter handed us a paper menu, but there were no pictures to show the food. However, we noticed pictures of some popular dishes on one of the walls. So we ordered a couple of items that looked delicious to us. We got the beef kare-kare, which is a beef stew with tripes, vegetables and peanut butter sauce. The peanut taste was obviously there, which we liked. However, it was a bit blend, not savory enough. We did like the beef, eggplants, and some organ meat in it. What we liked much much better was the pinapaitan soup, which is made with beef, heart, and tripes. The broth was very delicious! This was much tastier than the other dish. We also liked the accompanying shrimp paste, which has a sweet, savory salted shrimp flavor. They have other typical dishes, like bbq pork, chicken, etc, if you don't have a liking for organ meat. This place also carries assorted food items, like bread and cake, tapioca drink, instant coffee, canned corn beef, liver spread, spam, and many others. Food is authentic here as the place is run by people from the Philippines. But don't expect too much service here. The one that takes our order was also the one bringing us the food from the kitchen. The food is great, but extremely small portions. The quality is superior, but for this particular restaurant, I would've expected more quantity that would be par with the quality. Lechon Kawali- Good, the skin is very crispy, but lacks some flavor. Pairs well with the sauce that came with it. The sauce very much carried the Lechon. Lumpia- Good as well, but nothing crazy. Dash of herbs made it interesting. The rice given was normal, but the meat and rice ratio was off-wish there was more rice. Service (Average) Since it's a very traditional Filipino restaurant, you can't expect much service. We went on Thanksgiving afternoon and it was not busy, but lots of take out. Disappointed of the service. It took almost 40 minutes to served the food. I ordered Lumpia, Nilaga, Kare Kare, Sisig and Halo halo. The place is good, lots of table. All the food I ordered are bland in taste. Sisig was burnt, Nilaga meat had an awful taste. Mas masarap pa ang chewing gum i-chew. Frankly speaking! I've never eaten here but I've ordered a few times from uber eats and I have to say, this is one of the best Filipino restaurants (food wise) that I've had in Texas. I say this as a Filipino who grew up eating Filipino food and cooking it myself as well as trying many restaurants in this state. It's a bit expensive, but when I'm craving and I don't want to cook, I'll order from here. I wish they served dinuguan though! read more

I really do need to venture out and find these hidden gems in the city. A friend of mine found this place for us to try, and I'm so glad she did. It's a small restaurant with some Filipino goodies you can buy while you want. I ended up ordering the chicken inasal and bbq chicken skewers to try. They were both delicious, but I was a fan of the chicken inasal. We ordered lumpias for table, and they were okay. I've had homemade Filipino food before, so I was spoiled with that. Someone had ordered pancit with chicken and veggies, and it was HUGE! You can definitely share that with a few people st the table. Overall, I was pretty happy with the place and will come back to try other things. Parking was easy which is a big plus in my book. No alcohol if you are looking for a place that serves. read more

Very unassuming place outside and in. There is a little area to buy snacks and canned goods, but the food is the main attraction. I have been here twice and the food has been delicious. The menu itself is not very big and it is meat heavy - there really isn't a veggie only option. It has a very family run-vibe, so do not expect stellar service. The food takes a bit long to come out but everything seems made to order. I really liked the chicken insool - good marinade and nice char. One star at best. Been having a hankering for Filipino food and thought I would check this place out since it has been on my list for some time. The following reasons are why I will not be returning here at all. 1. The wait. We ordered three things, Sisig, Grilled Squid and Beef Kare Kare. My wife and I just landed from a trip and we were very hungry. It took about 30-40 minutes for the food to get there. I figured the wait was worth it, but sadly it wasnt. They were literally working on Filipino time. Best to set at least an hour to sit down and eat here. The service was meh and super slow. Even the couple that came after us had to ask multiple times where their rice was. Poorly run service in my opinion. 2. The food. The food itself was below averageThe Kare Kare, Sisig and Grilled Squid were bland in flavor. The main problem I had with the food was that it was not even warm! By the time we got the food, it was not even hot enough like I would expect it to be if it was freshly cooked. It was like the food was sitting for sometime, unheated before they portioned it out to serve it. If I wasnt beat up from my trip, I could have and would have made the food myself. Flavor was underdelivered. 3. Portion and Price. I paid $51 before tips for three items, Kare Kare, Sisig and Grilled Squid. Two bottles of water and a can of pop. The portions they gave were literally Filipino sized portions. Filipino in the sense that the serving size was what you would expect if you were eating food in the typical mom and pop places in the actual country of the Philippines. Such sad portions and not worth the price! I could have paid the same amount and gotten more food at another Filipino place in town. The amount of rice they gave was just poor. Refer to the pics I shared with this review. I am highly disappointed with my trip here and felt like this was classic highway robbery. I do not recommend this place at all! I arrived just after they opened and ordered Pansit bihon, Lechon Kawali and grilled pusit. I also purchased pandesal and Spanish bread. my only complaint was the lechon kawali, it was re-heated. The exterior meat was very tough, the skin was not crispy anymore but looks crispy, signs that it was re-fried. why would you even serve re-heated food? That shows that they don't care about thier customers or the quality of the food. Will think twice if we decide to return here. read more

When I got there to pick up the order they still haven't started the order yet. They don't care about your time here or making things right. We came here because we were in the area and saw a few patrons walked out with bags of take out, and thought to ourselves the food here must be exceptional. It's a counter serve restaurant, and they ignored me even when I was standing in front of the cashier for a few minutes. I had to ask them how to order. Turns out you order at the counter, but pay later after you're done eating, just in case you order more. I get that it's a mom and pop, but even in Asia, it's still customary to greet customers as they come in. To make it worse, our expectations of the food were not met. Our grilled mackerel was burnt. The bbq plate was $13 I believe, and only came with one bowl of rice and 4 skewers, that's it! The pancit bihon was okay, but it did not have much flavor. They also do not give you water, so you have to purchase beverage. Overall, it was a pricey dinner for subpar food. I love supporting immigrants and small business, this was the reason I convinced my family to give this place a try to begin with, but sadly I will not be coming back to Mauro's. read more

UPDATE: August 11, 2019 This past week, I ordered 5 packs of Filipino pastry called HOPIA in Chinese (with flavor of Pandan aka Screwpine). I went to pick up my order this past Friday. When I was about to pay, the cashier told me that her husband made a mistake and took my order home the night before and he's going to get my ordered Hopia from their home which she said is about 3 minutes away from their restaurant. So I told her, I'll wait. Then, I gave her my credit card. That's when she told me that they only accept Cash for all their outsourced desserts except their Halo-Halo which they make in-house. I told her the last time I ordered this Hopia, it was included in our dinner bill and I paid by credit card. She was very apologetic and told me that they pay their outsourced dessert vendors cash when they deliver. So I left to go to the nearest ATM machine. I came back after 10 minutes and I paid her cash. I got my order of 5 packs Hopia, but I noticed that one of the wrapped packs was loose and the small piece of pink rope that tied to each pack was under the bag. But I didn't bother opening that loose wrap pack. When I got home later that afternoon, that's when I realized that the loose wrap pack has only 4 pcs of hopia. Each pack should have 5 pcs, that's how they sell it at $6.99 per pack, pricey isn't it? But I don't care about the sales price. This pastry is delicious. So someone must have eaten a piece of it. I don't have any idea as to who's the guilty party here. But anyway, I didn't bother to call them back, maybe they forgot to tell me that one piece is missing. I gave them the benefit. But this time I'm taking off 3 stars from my review. Like in baseball, three strikes, you're out! First - The last time we had dinner here, my wife ordered Pancit Palabok (Filipino/Chinese noodle dish with shrimp sauce and topped with several ingredients such as cooked shrimp, boiled pork, crushed chicharon, tinapa flakes, fried tofu, scallions, and fried garlic). My wife was waiting for her order for quite a while. When I went to the counter to follow up her order, they forgot to make it. Second - Their opening weekday hours in Yelp is 10:30 am, in Google its 11 am. I went there this past Friday morning, they were still closed at 11 am. Also, it's so inconvenient for their customers not to know ahead of time if you need to pay cash for their outsourced goodies. THE UBE ICE CREAM ON TOP - delicious, idk if it's store bought or homemade, but simply incredible. Good Lechon Kawali, Slow Service and Small Portions If you are seeking lechon kawali (roasted pork), Mauro's is one of the few places that succeeds in achieving crispy skin that doesn't get soggy by the time you get it home. Also, they carry baked goods from Bread and More by Chef Joey in Houston; the ube ensaymada is fluffy, buttery, and large. Unfortunately, these positives are offset by slow service and small portions. The wait on one Saturday morning was about 40 minutes. The portion of the kare kare was particularly disappointing; despite being one of the more expensive items, the container was only half filled, and there were only two pieces of meat. Because there are no satisfactory alternatives for crispy lechon in the DFW area, we'll be back, but only for the lechon and only if we are not in a hurry. read more

Homecooked and hot delicious filipino food. It's right between the Korean and Vietnamese restaurants in the mall strip. We got there around noon on a Saturday and there were only a couple of people in there. You can tell they just brought out the hot plates in the food warming area. The pancit looked freshly made and ooh so delicious. It had the thin vermicelli noodles with cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, shiitake mushrooms, shrimp, and chicken. We couldn't decide between the lechon and pata. We went for the lechon since my BF wasn't that hungry. We got one scoop of rice which was more than enough for two people. Wow, the lechon was crispy, hot, and yummy. It was a great choice. It had nice fatty meat pieces which I love. My BF realized he would prefer the pata, so definitely next time we will try it. But for someone that don't like fatty meat he sure gobbled up the lechon. I didn't see a regular menu to look at, they just had the daily menu on the white board. My wife and I tried the newest (2 months) Filipino restaurant in town, based on recent positive feedback from family, and were very satisfied with EVERYTHING! We also ordered to go meals for our children: chicken inasal & adobo ng manok; and homemade pandaan mung bean hopia. We're coming back and will recommend Mauro's to our Filipino family & friends. Unlike the Pacific coastal states; Chicago; NYC; & NJ, it's SO hard to find good Filipino restaurants in the DFW metro. When she learned it was our first time trying Filipino food, she walked us through some of her favorites. We ordered everything she suggested and it was all soooo good.
