This is an updated review from my original of 11/09/2020. Matthew brings years of knowledge and experience to every case he handles. If you read my first review, I met him in the dark days of Covid. I was selling my home under a stressful situation while buying and moving into a new one! He handled everything for me and made the process flow perfectly to a most successful conclusion. I have much gratitude for his assistance. Recently, and three years later, I called upon him for yet another legal issue. His expeditous intervention, along with his reliable and highly skilled team, again saved the day for me. Matthew is a true professional you can trust to always have your best interests as his number one priority. You will find no one who will work harder to get you where you need to be. And his sense of humor always surfaces just when you need it the most! I strongly recommend Matthew based upon his years of experience, knowledge of the law, and unwavering integrity. He has so many other valuable skills. Take a moment and review the website for more information about this exceptional attorney. I trust him. Thank you, Matthew!

Communication was clear and they definitely listened attentively to my reasons why I needed their assistance. I was given the proper legal guidance and which direction I should go. Ash and I am tagging the most current - the individual listed in Grass Valley, CA, although he apparently gives seminars throughout Northern CA. If I could give Robert Ash a ZERO star review, I would. My mother (88 yrs of age) hired Robert Ash on September of 2015, after hearing his Estate and Medi-Cal planning seminar. She was very worried about my dad's declining health. He had a couple of trips to the ER and rehab facilities after some falls. My mom was concerned she could not properly take care of him much longer. Having my dad Medi-Cal eligible would protect their modest assets and transitioning him into care would be less of a burden. My mom signed an agreement with Robert Ash on September 15, 2015 with a $10,000 up front retainer (a boiler-plate contract). Shortly after signing the contract, my dad (92 yrs of age) had fallen again. He was taken to the ER and then transferred to a rehab facility for continued care. My mom was instructed to gather financial documents and bring them to Ash's office for review. In early February of 2017, my father-in-law unexpected passed away. Ten days later, my mom was taken to the ER and hours later, suddenly passed away as well. My sister and I had to finish the work that my mom had started with Robert Ash's office and my sister and I felt the need to expedite things to protect my dad and their finances. I was instructed to meet with Richard Holiday (Ash's partner) in Rocklin, CA on March 23rd. During the meeting, I was asked for another fee of $12,000. Richard Holiday indicated that this fee was part of the contract that my mom originally signed. Not thinking clearly, I issued the check but did ask for the paperwork documenting this fee agreement. Later that day, I emailed their offices with the same request. Tensions and problems began to occur with the rehab facility where my father was located and his health was deteriorating. During this period, several requests were made (both verbal and in writing) for my mom's files and copies of their fee agreement - to no avail. Fast forward - my sister and I had to hire another attorney to take corrective action against Robert Ash. The attorney had Robert Ash return the March check of $12,000 as there was no fee agreement signed by my mom. Retrieving those funds took months. The new attorney also asked for an accounting of the initial $10,000 retainer - that process too took months. A refund was issued for $2,053.75 (from the $10K). In examining the billable hours from Ash's office, we noticed problems. Here are two examples: * FOUR charged hours in August - the contract was signed by my mom in September. * Over EIGHT charged hours of work done by office staff and/or the paralegal - billed at the same hourly rate of Robert Ash (e.g., answering my emails). The protracted delays of Robert Ash returning my parent's funds have led to this review. A complaint will be filed with the California State Bar and documentation submitted per the guidance of our new attorney.

I was forced out of a medical practice after a corporation bought it and required I see more patients per hour. It was beyond what I felt was proper patient-care, and they kept me on for two more years at 4 patients an hour since I was the primary practitioner and had great patient-provider rapport, and it gave the corporation and new graduate time to gauge the amount of visits they could squeeze out of our mostly Medicare retired community. They figured out the metric with the freshly-minted dermatologist who had 50% stake in the practice, fronted by the corporation. Forced out, but with plenty of experience and other practices trying to hire me, I was scooped up by an old colleague. He told me about Patricia, and how the treatment was incongruent with the labor laws. I ended up settling in about 3-months for a sizable amount, and could have rolled the dice and taken it to the labor board and possibly forcing a settlement over three time what I received. Patricia explained to me the pros and cons of going for the long haul, including the customary % of the settlement and penalties due the lawyer after the court hearing, and I felt she could have made out better by battling it out, but encouraged me to take the sizable settlement with minimal representation costs. By the way, the plaintiff hired a well-known San Francisco labor law litigation team, and Patricia had them "on the ropes" from the beginning, and they saw that she knew the law, and advised the plaintiff corporation to settle almost right away. Who knew a smaller town litigator could make big business and a profits first/ patients second corporation and medical provider bend to the laws of the land- Patricia did it. The second time I retained her was when I was going to contract with a local native american tribal clinic, and she said she could look over the contract, but had little faith in a fair dealing if we were to terminate the contract against my will, due to sovereign nation status. When we did sever ties, I wrote it off, as again I was contracted immediately in my specialty by another clinic. I contacted her a third time, and it was regarding the contract they provided to me, which was actually written for a locum tenens facilitator providing temporary help to the clinic. She explained the detail to me in terms I completely understood, wrote up a new independent contractor agreement that the clinic immediately agreed to, and also agreed that it protected both myself and the clinic from future issues. I consider it, along with the other two cases she defended or advised me for my agreeing to terms, to be money well-spent. I will always confer with her in my labor law issues.

They are very good at setting up estate planning, but lack in communication and understanding when dealing with the family after your loved one has passed. I wasn't expecting a warm and fuzzy relationship with the attorney, but some respect and decency would have been nice. If we are paying them $900 an hour I think that's not too much to ask. They were very nice at the first meeting, as this is where they hook you in. After that we were made to feel like a little kid and a bother every time we asked a question. She seemed very irritated every time we asked a question (which she charged for). When I voice my concerned at her frustration regarding our questions they dropped us and told us we were unprofessional. From my point of view if you can't take constructional criticism and learn from it then you don't belong in a profession where you deal with people. They should have apologized for making us feel that way and asked how they could make it better. They didn't, they just got an attitude. We learned the hard way that you don't have to use the attorney your loved one set it up with, you can use any attorney you want that deals in trusts and estate management. We have a new attorney now and they are great to work with. Open communication, very helpful and making us feel they have our best interest at heart. Never felt any of that at Cunningham Legal. Save yourself the hassle of dealing with them. I posted this on another site but it was not the office I went to and it is no where to be seen. For us, the benefits fo working with this law firm were as follows: 1. In comparison to a solo estate attorney, an estate law firm has greater number of team members who can support your heirs in an organized manner should something happen to you. 2. I felt the quality of the document i.e. legal language was top notch. At the end of the day, you don't want your heirs to go through probate and this law firm can help you avoid probate. 3. Highly responsive team who took the time to understand our needs You may find them slightly more expensive than solo attorneys or online companies, but this is not an area of life where you should try to save money as it can be a costly mistake if your estate plan is not set up properly. Highly recommend Jim Cunningham and his team at Cunningham Legal.
