It seems silly, I know, but the service here is really fantastic. The clinic offers every aspect of family planning and sexual health; contraceptives, emergency contraceptives, sexual health screening and much more. They offer all types of contraception; jab, pills, coils and implants, as well as handing out great bags of condoms to anyone who stands still long enough. Free pregnancy testing is also on offer here, as well as abortion advice. They also offer the RUclear? chlamydia and gonnoreah testing on a walk-in basis, which is great; you just give them your pee and they text you a few days later telling you the result. Though it's mainly a walk-in centre, some of the services are appointment only, including vasectomies, menopause counselling and treatment for some STIs. I'd recommend giving them a call before you go, if you're not sure if you'll need an appointment or not. The staff here, from the receptionists to the nurses and doctors who will see you, are all highly professional and very friendly. They don't judge, no matter what the issue, and they work long hours delivering this great service. And remember, they're here to help. So if you have a problem, these people will listen and give you the best advice possible.

Withington Community Hospital isn't really in Withington. It's in West Didsbury. I was a bit…read moresuspicious when I was referred to this hospital as in my experience any establishment with the word 'community' in it has had zero sense of community and on the contrary has been pretty rough. However, this NHS hospital is large, modern and welcoming with nice artwork on the walls - or so my boyfriend tells me. The dermatology department, which I was referred to, is located in a little old portacabin just down the road. Every time I've been there I've had to wait for at least 20 minutes after my appointment time. The walls are covered in little posters warning patients not to abuse staff if they're running late, which made me think that my experiences were not uncommon. When I was finally seen the treatment I received was absolutely excellent, the nurse was always so friendly and didn't give the impression she was rushing through (probably the reason for the wait). On one visit I also saw a specialist Dr who was just as friendly and helpful. You can park free for 30 minutes (which would be enough to drop someone off but not for an appointment), there is a pay and display machine for longer visits and the 84 bus stops right outside the hospital. There isn't an A&E, so this is only really a hospital you would visit on referral from a GP, but there is also a walk-in centre in the main building.

Does anyone know if they still have the old records there, or were they moved to another location? Thanks Dale PS I cannot look it up because I live in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

The Christie Hospital is probably a hospital most people travel from afar to get too because it is…read morean international leader in cancer research and development and was founded in 1901, joining the NHS in 2007 and has since gone on to become one of the largest cancer treatment centers n Europe, being located in the Withington area of South Manchester, on Wilmslow Road. I came here today for a medical appointment, it is worth noting that in Department 30 where I visited and it seems they operate this across the hospital, they have 15 minute timeslots but of course they often go over, so do expect delays on your appointment time but do get there on time, I had to wait for 1/2 an hour over before my appointment lasted 10 minutes over what they allowed it for, and taken around 27 minutes. I normally don't like to review hospitals as I don't like it affecting my care, but after being discharged today I feel that I'm in a more comfortable posision to do so. Most of the consultants here and staff I spoken to seemed nice, there even was a really nice, older lady who has been there for many years, a voulenteer who helps make tea, coffee and cordial for free while you wait, there is a cafe serving Starbucks coffee at the other side of the hospital, but it isn't great, it isn't a proper Starbucks and I doubt they even do everything up to brand standards, and I would advise if you want a coffee to go down the road, as 1/2 a mile just a right turn from the car park, on your left is a Starbucks Coffee and opposite there, there is a nice looking Nando's, Wetherspoons and Starbucks Coffee. This hospital is quite big, so it often can take a while to walk to your appointment if you come in at the wrong enterence, I found parking at The Christie Multi-story easier, despite having to go up until the top 12th floor to find a space, there is lots of parking put on, outside from the hospital but they are barely advertised and isn't as nice to park, and often you can go in and out and find nowhere to park at all. Overall, this is quite a nice hospital and does deserve 3 stars, it has good phone signal too and is a nice thing to have in Manchester, as it is a leading hospital not just in the country, but in the continent, sadly I don't feel it deserves over 3 stars due to certain issues such as how appointments are dealt with and the situation in general regarding the cafe, and even car parking and public transport options to get directly here.

The Vallance Centre is purpose build for the needs of local people and it really shows. Whereas the Brunswick Health Centre felt rushed and under pressure, the Vallance site appears sleek and calm. You can sign up in a couple of days and most people won't have to give a full medical although they may take some blood and urine samples for their records. There is also a useful online booking service. The centre is modern and clean, but if you want a more family oriented practice I'd head to Surrey Lodge which has a more 'traditional feel'. Most people who live in the University/Ardwick area will find they are within the geographical zones for both. If you had a weight problem, you could burn a fair few pounds off walking to the Surgery from some of the less central halls of residence. I signed up to be a patient here in my first week of University, and have only had to visit once, and that was when I was taking care of a friend. From her account, the care taken by the staff and partners here was exemplary, and she enjoyed the experience as much as she could, considering her circumstances! From my point of view, sat in the waiting room, I thought that the venue was a fantastic choice for a Surgery. It does not feel overly 'surgical', and it definitely works in the favour of the partners, as there is not a pressured atmosphere when waiting for an appointment. You can book appointments online through their website, which is very handy when you are planning for an appointment in advance. Otherwise, the schedule can become very busy, and you may have to wait a while for an emergency appointment. The Centre also offers a wide range of different medical-related services, including Acupuncture. Hopefully, I wont have to visit the Vallance Centre much, although, if I do, at least I know where it is, and know that it is not like a small extension of God's Waiting Room. For a surgery, it is as good as it could be.

It was pointing me towards the car park of my local Sainsburys. Was it mad? No! It was completely sane. My new doctor is accessible via the car park of my local Sainsburys. Whaddya know. Bodey Medical Centre is clean, sleek and looks all shiny and new. So there are the usual waiting times, the hanging around, the boredom, but both my experiences here have made up for any bureaucratic annoyances. Basically, twice I have visited Bodey, twice for unpleasant things which are necessary to female health and well-being, and twice I have been impressed. My first appointment was with a female doc, second with a nurse. Both women were calm, friendly and most comforting, and both the nicest people ever to venture quite so intimately about my person apart from the obvious. My first appointment led to a hospital consultation which was handled quickly and efficiently - she said my appointment letter may take up to two weeks to arrive but it appeared in less than one. Similar story with nursey, who said results might take around three weeks but reached my letterbox in a few days. Bodey, seriously! Trinity Medical what-now? Call me fickle but my affections are totes transferred.
