Paul professionally went over all of the important stuff with us, like how soft could the mattress be and still provide the back support we needed, along with the lifetime and cost of the mattresses that we needed. He was quite friendly and enthusiastic the whole time. He seemed to put us all at ease. After a lengthy discussion, he told us not to worry about the custom mattress. He simply asked us to let him visit the next day, and told us to just give him a chance to work his magic. The next afternoon he showed up at our house (30 miles away) and brought mattresses with him to try. We had braced ourselves for having to wait six weeks on an expensive custom mattress. Paul just seemed to make everything work somehow, and we were charged a lot less than we had anticipated. We kind of just stopped at this Mattress Firm on a whim. I believe this is a new location for this company. There are a few other locations here in town as well. We have been wanting a new mattress (in KING size) for awhile now and decided that the time was right. Having not purchased a mattress in about 15 years, I am sure our "deer in headlights" expression was telling that we needed some assistance as to where to start our mattress exploration. The salesman we worked with was wonderful. Basically, there are 3 types of beds there: firm (yellow indicator), plush (orange indicator) and pillow top (red indicator). Once you decide which of these you prefer, you move to the section which has a pretty good selection of beds in that particular type. We were torn between plush and pillow top and tried out a few of each in the mid-price range. We ended up deciding on the mattress that our salesman said he owns himself. It was about double the price that I intended to pay but he gave us a good deal on it and I am looking forward to many many many nights of blissful sleep. They were offering 0% financing for 5 years but since we were in the process of buying a home, we did not want to open up another line of credit (as instructed by mortgage co.) so the manager was able to knock some of the price off for us! (Thank you!!!!) We scheduled the delivery for a Monday between 5-8pm. I was nervous that we'd be waiting around for 3 hours... WRONG! We got a call around 4:45 from the delivery guys saying they would be there in 15 min! They showed up promptly at 5pm, graciously, brought the old King-sized mattress downstairs for us and got the new one set up in like, 10 min total!! There were even mints left on the bed for us!! We were met by a friendly associate named Stacey who had an art degree and moved to the area 15 years ago to be with family. No pressure and we were not planning on a purchase, but then... We found our 'Goldilocks' sectional that would be perfect for our new space - it was (of course) above our price range but there was a Memorial Day sale still running through the end of May so it brought it down considerably. But we didn't like the color... Haverty's has a selection of fabrics to customize your sofa; and it's a place where you can customize almost any sofa in terms of size and configuration. If you've never done this, you can (& should). There was no upcharge. And you get two pairs of pillows (you can choose fabric for those as well). Also, furniture is made with 100 percent wood with great cushioning material and pet friendly options for cleaning. If you're willing to spend more on a couch that will last 10-15 years, this might be the furniture store for you. Drawbacks: wait time for customization (a month, as expected) and delivery charge ($200) - but look: I'm of the opinion that delivery folks work hard doing thankless work so I'm okay with paying for this in a rough economy; unless you have teenagers and a large truck, consider how you'll be helping a local business (I wouldn't pay this amount if this were a national chain). If you're tired of cheaply made furniture (Ashley's) but don't have the bank to spend on luxe (Ethan Allen) then Haverty's might be just be right for you. If you like quirky, try LAZ E BOY: they sell more than just recliners. Note: with furniture, I always recommend you go in person to any store and really try it out; get a sense of the comfort, dimensions, etc. you're looking for. Then, if you can find something somewhere or online, you know exactly what you want. Now, go forth and be happy.

On a separate note, the store opens at 10, and I arrived shortly after. The computer/payment system was not yet up and running, and I had to wait 20 minutes or so for it to come up before they could complete the transaction.
