I was referred to Dr. Schultzel by my primary care physician for a hemorrhoid I got from childbirth. Dr has excellent bedside manner and recommended that I needed surgery for removal. Dr. Schultzel and his team provided me with expert care and engaging bed side manner when I approached him about my hernia. I've had a hernia for 4 or 5 years and it progressively grew to the point where my belly button was completely pushed out and was draining me emotionally, mentally and of course physically. I had seen 2 doctors in LA and they were no help and or tried to sell me a gastric bypass. Upon moving to San Diego in April, I found Dr Schutzel and the great reviews of his practice and outcome record. When I had my first appointment we discussed many different questions I had and there were solutions or starting points for everything. Upon looking at my hernia, he said, thats an incisional hernia, a large hernia. It probably won't be outpatient, but we can and should do it. He was adamant that I have a few tests done so they know what the status was before surgery. Turns out my colon and omentum was hanging outside my abdominal wall. Surgery day came and it was fast, pleasant and easy. I stayed overnight but was out by noon, making it a 24 hour visit. No only was my hernia repaired but he removed old scar tissue that was causing other issues. Dr was incredible post operation with 2 check ins and through care instructions. I was very late in getting my first colonoscopy (age 64) and they removed a very large polyp (along with several smaller ones) that the pathology report said was pre-cancerous. The pathologists also said there might be cancer in the colon at the site of the polyp. The recommendation was to have a colon resection. I was referred to Dr. Schultzel's practice and am very glad I was. He and his team were really fantastic. He communicated clearly what he saw as the options and recommended robotic surgery to remove a small section of the colon. He explained the procedure clearly and in detail and answered all of my questions. His team shepherded me through the entire process. He/they explained what the surgical process would most likely entail (while indicating things vary) and it turned out pretty much exactly as they outlined. Let's just say I almost died in October 2016 when I went septic and had to have emergency surgery in no-mans-land North Dakota (where I work for 6wks at a time in the oil industry) They literally butchered me. I went in for a hysterectomy with my OBGYN and woke up 7 hours later with an Ileostomy..... Unfortunately there were complications when removing my uterus and I was very fortunate that Dr. Schultzel was called in to preform an emergency Ileostomy. I recently gave birth to our beautiful baby boy :) However, most new moms I'm sure are aware that once you deliver your baby ...down there just isn't the same. Let me tell you... you can use all the dermoplast you want... it isn't going to speed up the healing process for your booty hole. I went to my primary care physician to ask if there any medication that would help heal and lessen the pain for my fissure (tear). He said there wasn't and the best thing I can do was to take stool softeners and hope it will heal fast. Well, I sought out a second opinion with Dr. Schultzel and he quickly informed me that there was a "miracle cream" (topical medication) for anal fissures and that it would help me heal in no time! In less than 2 weeks, no more bleeding and pain! I just wish I would've asked Dr. S sooner! After delivery, everything hurts and that's the worst when you are trying to love on your baby! Your reply exhibits a tit for tat unbecoming of a responsible physician. Rather than stepping up to the plate to accept your wrong you attack a patient through your office staff. Let it be known my complaint to your office staff was for twice furnishing the healthcare file for a different patient who's only commonality was my first name. That could potentially be dangerous. I stand by my initial review with back up from another doctor. If that bothers you so much and you feel you need to reply through your office staff that too speaks for itself. Additionally your office Manager denies ever sending any "disengagement letter" to me nor have I ever received one due to any issues with your staff. What the office manager did do following my complaint about the mix up of my health file was apologize and transfer my office visits to another location. I also continue to see a specialist in the same practice. Your remarks and falsehoods are slanderous enough that I have been advised I should file a complaint with the State of California Medical Board and have begun to do so. read more
