I feel it's important to share my experience as a former employee at Mathnasium of Viera so that parents and potential employees know what really happens behind the scenes. It is very important to read the entire message provided!
My name is Dawson Jenkins, many of the students will know who I am. While working here, I endured repeated verbal abuse from the manager, Grier Burrows. She insulted me personally, belittled me in front of others, ignored important communications for days at a time, and created a hostile work environment. Instead of offering guidance and professionalism, her management style was dismissive, demeaning, and retaliatory.
When I reported this abuse to Brandon, who oversees the center, his response was inadequate and deeply unprofessional. He delayed responding for weeks, never once acknowledged that I was abused, and even became confrontational with me on the phone. Rather than addressing the misconduct, leadership chose to protect the manager. Ultimately, I was terminated in what was clearly a retaliatory firing -- not because of performance or attendance issues, but because I spoke up about abuse.
The Employee Handbook at Mathnasium states that employees are entitled to a safe and respectful workplace, free from harassment, retaliation, and intimidation. My experience proves those standards are not being upheld at this location. Instead, the environment is toxic, mismanaged, and harmful both to staff and, by extension, to the students who come here.
Parents should know that the same manager who mistreated staff is also responsible for shaping the learning environment for your children. There were also times when students were mocked, employees were mocked, and it was clear this is not a safe or respectful space -- especially considering the high tuition families pay for their children to attend.
