In February of this past year we knew we had to get our son help. He was struggling with 6th grade math and his confidence was plummeting. We decided to give mathnasium a shot. Five months later our son asks when he will be going to mathnasium, his confidence and skill base are building, and we have even decided to start our daughter on the program for some extra practice. Just today I sat in the tutoring room with a room full of children of all ages. The tutors handled a very busy hour great. They diligently worked with each child making sure they were making progress and understanding what they were doing. The best part was the number of compliments I heard from each of the instructors. I took my daughter to Mathnasium. She went through their initial placement testing and lessons so we could really get a feel for what they had to offer there. I was VERY disappointed in what they had to offer. The program is mostly worksheet based. They have worksheet lessons that build on one another and the children sit at tables and complete pencil and paper lessons. This is what children can get at school. If I am going to pay for supplemental math, I want it to be fun and taught with multiple learning styles addressed. I believe any place like this should be employing manipulatives, games and technology to excite and engage learners of all learning styles. read more

My son felt like a loser in math in second grade and was barely getting through. We started him at Mathnasium and we took him all Summer long as well to help him get caught up. He loved it because it was fun and the tutors never get frustrated and are patient because they have this system where they each make their rounds and there is about 3 tutors a day usually. Each explain their own way and he's grasping it well! My son can even bring his math papers from school to work on them and get help. After going for about 6 months, my son loves math and feels very confident, and you know what he tells me now? He says it is his FAVORITE SUBJECT! That's AMAZING! Our Daughter has struggled with Math all year. Her self confidence was decreasing while her frustration was rising. Within just a few weeks, she has shown so much improvement. She now wants to participate in school math related activities. The teachers there are patient, kind and go above and beyond to make every child there feel like they special and confident.
