In March of 2014 I recieved a notice from the IRS that we had not reported income from an…read moreinvestment account. I was puzzled because the statements come in one envelope and I was sure that is how it was given to the accountant. I suspect the accountant misplaced a reporting page and they think it was not provided. Never the less, I do owe the taxes so that is not the issue. We contacted our tax preparer and he was no longer with the firm. We were handed off to one of the older partners whom we talked to about working with us on getting this issue resolved, that being the penalty and interest. Six months later we find out that nothing had been done and we were then turned over to a young new accountant. As we discussed the penalty and interest question we asked about cost for this service. We were told 300-400 dollars. Well, I knew it wasn't going to be 300 but nearer the 400. Imagine my surprise my wife called about the status and she was told we owed 590 dollars. My wife went directly to the office, paid the bill, and was told they were waiting for the IRS to reply to the letter, supposedly written on our behalf. To date, we have never seen a letter to the IRS or an accounting statement from Fouts and Morgan. I am curious as to whether or not any of it happended. When we started handling this issue ourselves with the IRS, they had no record of correspondence on file regarding the accountant contacting the IRS. We should have handled this issue on our own but I was not confident enough to take this on. As it turned out we got this resolved to our satisfaction and we still do not have any supporting information from the accounting firm Fouts and Morgan. A big fancy office and high dollar rate doesn't necassarily mean you get professional service. Choose your accounting services carefully.
