Very Disappointing Experience - Poor Workmanship & No Follow‑Up We had a very disappointing experience with Master Roofing Inc., specifically witt under management Quinn V. Schilz, during a roof underlayment replacement and tile repair on our home. This was a major project (approximately $30,000) paid by the seller as part of our home purchase agreement. The work was completed while we were on vacation, with coordination handled by our agent. After moving in, a neighbor pointed out that several tiles appeared to have been intentionally broken rather than properly replaced. The finished result looks uneven, poorly repaired, and unprofessional. While the underlayment was replaced, many tiles remain broken or damaged, and the roof was not left clean or neatly restored as agreed. More concerning, the section meant to direct water away from the patio roof does not function properly, causing leaks during rainfall. We have clear photos and videos taken during rain that show this issue plainly. Since purchasing the home in April 2025, we've contacted the company multiple times seeking resolution. Initially, we were told they would not communicate directly with us and that only our agent could contact them. Even after repeated follow‑ups from the seller's agent, the only response we eventually received was that we would need to pay additional money to have the work properly fixed. Every time we look at our roof, we feel disappointed that this project was not completed with basic professionalism or accountability. Stay away--do your research first so you don't learn the hard way like we did. Our experience with Master Roofing involved poor workmanship, bad communication, and questionable business practices. We hired Master Roofing to repair a small flat roof section (under 300 sq. ft.) where it meets our high-pitched concrete tile roof. The area was leaking, and the job was supposed to take two days. After paying our deposit, the first red flag came on installation day when they demanded the remaining $7,000 upfront before any work began. We refused to pay in full until work was in progress or completed. The roof was eventually completed and paid in full. About a week later, after a light rain, the same area began leaking again. To their credit, they responded quickly and came out to apply mastic to the area they claimed was leaking. Two weeks later, during a heavy rainstorm, a different section of the flat roof failed and flooded our home. Phone calls to the owner went unanswered for two days. When Mr. Schulz finally responded, he blamed the water intrusion on our original pitched roof, not their work. After going back and forth over responsibility and scope of work--and ultimately involving an attorney--their tone changed. Master Roofing then agreed to repair the interior water damage and replaced the flat roof section for a second time. Since then, we've had another moderate rain and the leaks appear to have stopped. While the issue may now be resolved, the overall experience was extremely frustrating. The crew was unprofessional, repeatedly claiming they were "the best," and every response from Mr. Schulz felt like a sales pitch, often pushing us to replace the entire roof. Just wanted to give an update on this matter. Quinn responded to my first review with a very diplomatic response that was riddled with half-truths and incorrect information. Several of the patches that Master Roofing applied have already started peeling up. A few weeks ago we had some rain and discovered two roof leaks as well from locations they were supposed to seal. Master Roofing never completed the verbally agreed upon scope of work, tried to charge me extra to fix their own faulty workmanship, and I've now had to pay another roofer $1,400 to resolve the issues caused by them. There are a few outstanding items and damages caused by Master Roofing that I am still waiting for a quote on. I've had three different roofers walk the job that Master Roofing did and they've all commented that Master Roofing's work would never pass inspection and would cause leak issues in the very near future. read more

I'm just honestly stunned. Jake was really cool and I appreciated working with him at the start of the project. Quinn, not so much... I don't think Quinn actually knows much about roofing and just is the business guy that subs everything out to his crew and believes what he is told. Either way... they bid the job for patching and sealing parts of the roof at $9,500... they worked with me to match another quote and took the job at $7,500 which is still an expensive job. Attached are pictures of the work they did. This was after having them come out and correct things 3 times. When they realized that I still wasn't happy, they tried to charge me more to send out a different foreman to fix what their first foreman did. I've wasted so much time with these guys which is a shame since they had really good reviews on Google and BBB and as I said earlier Jake is a super cool guy. For commercial projects, I would steer clear of Master Roofing and find a contractor that knows what they are doing.... I can't attest to their residential work. read more

We had a leak in office room of our house. The Timothy came, did drone pictures. (!!) Created a small contract to replace 100 sf in the roof for the price of 4500 dollars. He said they replace the whole side of the roof which connects to the entrance porch. In the next couple of days, people come and did some work for maybe 30 minutes and left. We paid them the money. The rain started couple months later and..... we have the same leak again. This company is a real scam! We so disappointed with them. read more

My experience with Master Roofing Irvine, CA. I had a SMALL leak in the corner of my house near a skylight. Project manager Shane from Master Roofing came to my property on 3/12/23 without going up on my roof Shane used a drone and quoted me a whole roof replacement for $16,950 a partial repair of a 10 x 10 area for $4500 sealing a small area with silicone for $2500 or laying down an 8 x 8 tarp for $1500 Luckily, I was in contact with my regular roofer who told me to immediately tell Shane to go away. First of all laying down an 8 x 8 tarp would do nothing on a flat roof water would still seep underneath and $1500 to lay 8 x 8 tarp?? Really? A full $17,000 roof job when you haven't even walked on the roof to inspect it and know exactly what is needed? Be careful folks, get multiple bids and ask plenty of questions! When are they going to have no star reviews? This arrogant owner was scheduled to fix my roof on Monday but no showed. My tenants were expecting them and he claimed he thought the job was tentative since I was saving money for the other half. Yet, when we spoke, I told him I was ready and the date we set was confirmed. If he wasn't sure, why wouldn't he call? Now there's a leak and damaging my house. I have been unemployed from my ptsd and the owner Quinn doesn't have any professional experience since he took over for his dad who no doubt built up the business. He kept making excuses and this triggered my anxiety, poor little guy couldn't handle it and instead of taking care of the job I already paid half for, he decided he didn't need my business. He conveniently forgot that I was understanding when I called him Monday even though it wasn't my fault. He said he'd call the next day to reschedule but never did. We had Ari out to do the inspection and give us a quote. Our flat roof was in need of replacing due to leaks. Their quote was less than other companies but then I saw the bad reviews here on Yelp which made me very nervous. Ari put me in touch with the owner who took the time to explain the situations that led to the bad reviews and also that Shane, who received complaints, was no longer working with the company. The young-sounding owner also sincerely explained his background working with his family in their contracting business and that his company Master Roofing is a new company. I appreciated that he was guaranteeing the work and wanted our business. We are very happy with the results. The material has a weather-proof plastic coating which is a step-up from what we previously had. We also had a piece of overhang fitted and the framer did a good job.
