Avoid Massage Envy!! 0/5 stars! As of right now, the biggest issue is that there has been a $125 charge on my card, when there was NO service. My appointment for a first-time basic 60 min massage has disappeared on my account, leaving me unable to leave a review for Anita herself. According to the website, only $37.50 should have been charged if this is to be considered a same-day cancellation instead of a refusal of service. I will be disputing the $125 charge, and this company will get none of my money. Anita was the employee that I came in contact with. I was in a room with her for less than 10 minutes before I had to be anywhere else. Anita began by introducing herself, asking how I was just before turning around and walking away. This was the first red flag as it seemed very impersonal, but I immediately assumed she's had a long day. When she found a room for me, she asked "What are you here for?," and "a massage for what?" She asked me to elaborate when I told her I have chronic pain, even though I noted my migraines and TMD on the chart that I assumed she was scrolling through on the iPad. I then communicated to her that I am feeling anxious right now and having a hard time communicating, hoping that she'd care. I told her that I Googled Craniosacral Therapy and Massage Envy was the first suggestion. My husband already wanted me to make an appointment here, so this is initially why I did. She immediately shot it down with "we don't do that here" and "whatever I do up there is gonna relieve the pressure you need." I suggested trigger point therapy for my shoulders, and she rolled her eyes at me! This was when I knew I needed to leave, because my heart rate had skyrocketed. When I walked to the front desk, Anita followed me, repeating that I'm still "gonna have to pay because that's what I signed." I asked to speak to the manager, and I asked Anita to please leave because I did not want to speak to her anymore. She eventually left, and the front desk employee told me the manager would be in tomorrow. She then gave me the customer service number that sent me straight to voicemail. I have been in touch with Brett at the corporate location in Phoenix, AZ and will be calling the franchise's manager as well. read more

First time coming to the one in Alpharetta. Very convenient as it's down the street from my job. My masseuse was John. Great guy! Very easygoing, made sure I was very comfortable. I did a 60 min full body and I was very pleased. I'm always tense and stress and knows that just one session wouldn't be enough. The thing I liked about John from others is that after everything was done and him bring me a cup of water he had a mini session with me about my body. He gave me recommendations about trying to do 90 mins so my body can start to understand how to relax, drink more water, stretch, do more self care as I would rather do for others but this mini talk was nice and not much ppl do this so that's why I left happy left with a membership and gave 5 Stars read more

In reading other reviews I see this is common. I have been trying to cancel my membership for four weeks with numerous calls citing a manager will call me back and not once got a call back. I booked service on 10/21 for same Day service and was talked into membership over phone. They called me back within 20 min that the masseuse couldn't come in. I cancelled instead of rescheduled and requested termination of membership. I submitted the form via email on 10/24. The form clearly states max 10days for cancellation to process which would be by 11/2. $70 came out on 11/21. I kept getting told a manager would call me back, I called and demanded refund 11/23 and was told 5-7 days and I said no. It was received 11/25. I called 11/28 (today as I write this) to confirm and request via email confirmation of cancellation. My account was pulled up and was told they'd check if can terminate (citing process that was opposite what's stated on cancellation form) and would initiate the process. (I submitted it 10/24). I again was told I'd get a call back (about 5th time now). Please conclude this below par experience and close this out. read more

Wife booked her first basic massage appointment, advertised for $70. She looked up 'Craniosacral Massage Therapy' on Google and one of the top results was for Massage Envy, the only reason she found and booked here. She showed up (on time) for her appointment today and was assigned Anita as her masseuse, who was unacceptably rude, condescending, and overall intense for someone who's responsible for relaxing a client in prep for massage. Overlooking her horrid attitude, Anita then claimed that they don't do craniosacral massage therapy there; my wife has also been previously suggested 'trigger point therapy' so she then mentioned that as well, to which Anita blatantly scoffed and rolled her eyes to my wife's face with no other response. Wife's had enough at this point, can't stand even being in the room with the masseuse for 5 mins let alone be massaged by her... she decides to leave and cancel the service. Staff insist she must pay full price regardless. Technically, this is a same-day cancellation (and done in-store, at that) and, according to ME's cancellation policy on their website, the customer should only be charged 50% of the price of the service for a same-day cancellation, which in this case would be around $35. They immediately proceed to charge $125 to my credit card and then delete all record of my wife's scheduled appointment having ever existed from their system. This place CLEARLY cares nothing for their customers or quality of service, and are exhibiting extremely dubious business practices and deceitful marketing. I'm now having to go through my bank to reverse the fraudulent charges. If unable to do so, I am 100% reporting this location to the BBB. Avoid this place like the plague! read more

I was greeted right away and the staff was courteous and professional. I arrived early to complete my paperwork (on an iPad) because I was a first timer. My massage was with Marcy who HANDS DOWN was amazing. I will be back for her. I have had numerous massages in the past so don't expect this to be the fancy, wear a robe/"spa" type of massage experience. I purchased a prepaid 6 Month Plan beginning in January 2020 at the WINDWARD PARKWAY location in Alpharetta, GA, and was told that even though we are in the middle of a global pandemic, I could not put my account on hold or extend it. I scheduled an appointment 2 weeks ago, and the day before, I wasn't feeling well, so I called to cancel to PROTECT the Massage Envy staff. I had another appointment today, but my 81 year old mother who is a widow and lives in AL is having lung issues and is having a CT scan today (in the middle of COVID-19). I obviously raced to AL and completely forgot about my appointment. I offered to provide confirmation from her doctor, but they still are charging me one credit. I am appalled. The Massage Envy franchise is doing NOTHING during a global pandemic to support their members--no extension of plan when the world has been shut down for 60 days and no exception when I needed to care for an elderly widow. Quite frankly, I'm appalled. I will use my remaining credits as fast as possible and will NOT do business with the Massage Envy franchise again. I typically have always had outstanding experiences and great service at all massage envy locations but on 7/7/2019 at this location I can now say I will never do business at this location again. Management called me a few hours after i had the appointment and I was called a thief and was accused of walking out without paying for service. After assuring management that I would never do such a thing and that I indeed paid my $62 bill and left a $15 tip they were convinced that calling me a thief was justified. Once I explained I had an email copy of the receipt and a charge on my mobile bank app from them I was finally cleared of the charge and she apologized. I was very pleased when I called Massage Envy of Alpharetta, GA to find out they could see me the same day for a Deep Tissue Massage (in fact, within the hour of my call). I arrived 15 minutes early as per the receptionist to fill out paperwork. The front desk staff was very warm and pleasant to chat with, and offered water upon my arrival which was welcomed. My masseuse picked me up from reception within a few minutes of my scheduled start time and introduced herself as Tracy. She asked me what brought me in and I explained that I had been using massage therapy for years, but as a new transplant to Atlanta in sudden pain, Massage Envy was all I could find. I told her multiple pieces of information about myself including having fibromyalgia but prefaced it by saying that despite my condition, I truly prefer a VERY firm touch on some areas of my body like my upper back, neck, lower back, and shoulders; however, I prefer a LIGHT touch or NONE at all when it comes to my lower body, like my legs, hips, and ticklish feet. Lastly, I drew her attention to the most painful part of my body and the driver for my visit to Massage Envy which was my left trapezes & capitis / scapulae areas. This isn't my first rodeo with massage and I knew that providing my therapist as detailed of information up front would only help to improve the experience & services I received during the massage. Or so I thought... She started me on my stomach which is common with a deep tissue massage, and immediately started my upper body using a soft touch. This is no big deal because I just told her that I would like firmer pressure. Instead of asking whether she was applying enough, it felt like she took my feedback personally and became aggressive with how she applied pressure from that point forwards. For example, when she got to my arms, she pulled them out from under the blanket, and started pulling them in an awkward, 3 point motion before dropping them back on the table. Literally, there was an audible 'thud'. She didn't even focus on the left shoulder, but I thought that was to come later. Instead of starting at the base of my spine and moving upwards (in a 'M' motion, up my spine, down over the shoulders and back), she kept stopping her movements midstream & therefore creating no continuity, relaxation or flow of motion. She also applied pressure on the wrong areas like my rib cage around my spine instead of on the muscles. And her inconsistent practices between the L and R sides of the body, e.g. she would apply one style to the right and when she got to the left side, its like she would feel rushed and only due some of the movements she did prior. This left me feeling very unbalanced. But worse of all, AGAIN, she didn't focus on my left shoulder/left neck AT ALL. In fact, she didn't even touch my neck when I was on my belly. This didn't seem like a red flag because I have had massage therapists tell me that it is better to focus on sore shoulders/neck after you flip over to your back (usually, the 2nd portion of a deep tissue massage), because the therapist can use an elephant walk down the shoulders and arms to release tension. In addition, they can knead the traps in ways that SHOULD relieve shoulder tension more that when you are on your stomach. Unfortunately, the upper back portion was very short, so I was already disappointed when she started on my lower body, the area I expressed she should ignore in my "pre-massage preamble". But instead, this was where she spent the lion share of time (about 35 minutes), despite my frequent protestations. Not only that, but I had to stop her several times because she was physically hurting me to the point of tears while rubbing my gluts and hips. Again, she seemed to take my feedback personally and let me know it via her painful actions. When she asked me to flip over onto my back, she spent approx. 9 of the last 13 minutes rubbing my shins (again, an area I wanted to ignore). Finally, in the last 4 minutes, whilst I was on my back, she quickly pinched my shoulders. I asked if she knew how to walk up my spine with her fingers or stretch my head from left to right to be able to rub the capitis or colli neck muscles. Both of which she replied she did but was out of time. I was shocked that we were finished (a good massage can cause a sense of time dilation because of the atmosphere and supposed relaxation; I, on the other hand, had a good feel for the time because it was all I was focusing on to get through the pain). She asked how the massage was and I was literally speechless. I told her I was shocked that she ignored the two areas that I wanted to focus on, in favor of those I wanted to ignore. And questioned why she basically ignored me and my mid-massage modification requests. She held me back on the table and started this odd kneading motion, trying to make up for her lack of attention to my neck. I will never return here or any other Massage Envy. read more

Tried calling Alpharetta location (which is my "home" location) to gift a massage to a friend... cant reach them, left 2 messages, contacted 2 other Massage Envy's asking if they would help me, and none is allowed or able to help me do this normal activity of GIFTING a MASSAGE TO A FRIEND due to all the constraints of the franchises. Being told i must do it through Alpharetta location - which is not answering and apparently people cant reach the location by phone anymore, ... so my ability to do a simple massage GIFT to a friend is sort of held hostage. The rules stink. i would never join again. The limitations of gifting massages are terrible, and now other locations cannot help when one location is unreachable. terrible service. read more

I am a regular at Massage Envy, but this location just "rubs me the wrong way". The reception desk staff are the least friendly of all the locations i have visited. Customer service isn't the strong point at this unit. Maybe they are busy, but it just seems more like a production line than a spa. In every other location I am usually invited to a "quiet room" to wait for the massage, here it was more like a cattle call. I will admit that my biggest pet peeve is paying for an hour massage and getting shorted on time. This visit it rounded up to about 45 minutes. I regularly go and get massages at this location. After receiving massages you generally get a survey, but be warned that this location really only wants you to provide feedback that your experience was great. I had a bad experience at my last appointment so I emailed the clinic to let them know my feedback. I stated the facts that happened and kept it professional. I received a phone call from the manager stating that I am being isolated to one therapist and there are 6 people that don't want to work with me. Essentially blackballing me. (For the past nine months to a year I have only really seen one therapist except for this past time, so how this is actually a true statement I have no idea.) She didn't start with an apology that maybe the feedback I provided was valid, she just said this is what we are going to do. Didn't ask my opinion or anything. I also stated that I was trying to find an additional therapist so I could alternate, but she just had a so what, this is what we are going to do whether you like it or not attitude. Of course when someone says people don't want to work with you your reaction is why?? So I asked and she basically said the therapist doesn't have to say. I am sorry, but if it is actually true and 6 people don't want to work with someone then you would think you would delve more into that. I just generally lay there and get a massage. I am not weird and I like the therapist to use deep pressure - doesn't seem like an unreasonable request. Also, they are becoming regulars on shorting you on Massage sessions. You are supposed to get 50 minutes of hands on work (feedback I provided - again not unreasonable in my opinion) and in many instances I have been taken back after the top of the hour but they finish promptly at 5 till. Just be forewarned if you want to take your business here. There are other locations that have much better ratings for probably a better staff or you can benefit other small businesses that may actually appreciate their customers. read more

This has to be the worst location that I've been to. The first time I went, I requested for a deep muscle therapy. The front desk agreed, but I never received it. Since the therapist was good and I was in tremendous pain, I thought I'd come back for another session before I went out of town. The therapist said she'd talk to the front desk and schedule me in. Today I turn up at the location and was told that no appointment was scheduled for me. I was also lectured rudely by the manager on how "things are done at this location" like I had the responsibility of knowing what she had trained her staff on! She didn't try to see if she could fit me in today, no apologies made and she just rudely pointed towards the door. Seriously! I could not believe how badly she behaved!! People with such standards of customer service should lose their jobs. And this was the Manager!!! Now I am still in pain, but I can't go to any other place because they're all booked up. I would not recommend this location, because obviously their staff is not trained well and their manager doesn't know how to behave with clients. read more

What it is is 3 massages you HAVE to take within 3 months, after 3 months the whole thing is null and void. Well, they don't tell you that and no emails or other reminders. You have to communicate what you are looking for, find it, stick to a circle of "ace" therapists in that area/ your preferences and it is fantastic. If a therapist wasnt doing it for me in a massage, i would give feedback. I was once at a greenhouse spa, getting a terrible massage, and we stoppedthe massage and I left.
