I have been going to Massage Addict Spring Garden since the beginning of Covid and they have been an amazing place of healing, connecting and general great, healthy treatments. I love that they are in my neighborhood and super flexible. Martin Morin is an RMT and Reiki practitioner who works with them and I have to give him a special recommendation - I am healing from some illness and his combination of deep tissue massage, Reiki and caring has been a huge part of my healing journey. Was looking for a good place to get a massage that was close to my work. I chose massage addict because I'd been told it was a good place to get a cheap massage, but, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. I didn't find out until after that this is a chain (the McDonalds of massages if you will). The receptionist wasn't very friendly or helpful and the masseuse also showed little to no personality. I felt very much like the next person on the conveyor belt. The masseuse just didn't seem very friendly, the environment was cold. None of the people there seemed to like being there. Just seemed like a bad work environment which was reflected in the attitudes of the staff. The massage was okay. It was a little heavy handed and since I was there for an injury I didn't feel like the masseuse spent the appropriate time assessing the injury itself or talking to me about the pain. Any other massage I've been to they've really assessed what was going on before starting which made me sort of feel like the therapist at massage addict didn't really know what she was doing. I'd recommend going to one of the many locally owned smaller massage businesses in town where the masseuse cares about their work because it's their business. read more

I was initially unsure of the quality of massage I would receive for the low intro price of $39 but I was so impressed I've been back at least twice a month since ! The only commitment you have to make is to come at least once a month for a massage for just $49...You can share your membership with other members of your family living at the same address AND you can buy gift certificates for friends at your membership rate too which is a GREAT gift idea !! The decor is modern/asian and well executed.The massage rooms are tasteful and the tables are big enough to accomodate every body size.I love Massage Addict because I can go online and check the available appointment times whenever I feel like I need a massage and often book something for the same day ! I was in for my first visit at this location today. I've been to the location on Lacewood so had an idea of what to expect. I swear I just had the best massage of my life! That being said I'm not someone who goes frequently or is snobby about my massages. However, this was pretty top notch. So much so I signed up for the membership deal. Yup, I am now going for monthly massages! Really, $59/hr, once a month is more than doable. Now, because I highly enjoyed it I am not going to tell you who my therapist was. Why? Because I heart her and don't want everyone rushing and snatching up all her appointments! haha...She was fantastic! She asked questions other therapists had never asked. She worked on muscles that others hadn't in the past. She was super easy to talk to, was perfectly willing to customize my treatment to my preferences and was more than happy to explain what she was doing and why and how it would benefit me. She even spent a few minutes after the appointment to discuss things I could do between now and my next appointment to help my trouble spots...again, something no one else had ever done before. I'm pretty pleased with my first visit! Even if I hadn't gotten the membership I would definitely go back! read more

Great massage, lots of choice, and good location (for those downtown). These guys are a Canada-wide chain, and it's a clever idea: providing facilities and a booking mechanism for independent RMTs. There are always 6 or 8 therapists on here, making it easy to get a booking. While I find the regular prices to be a bit steep they're often putting on promotions to discount the price. I've probably tried 4 or 5 of the RMTs here and they've all been good. Rooms are very nice, comfortable, warm, and pleasant. Staff, both RMTs and front desk, are all friendly and helpful. And I can walk there in 15 minutes. read more

This is the only place I go for a massage. Not only is it conveniently located, but they go out of their way to deliver top-notch service to their customers. My first visit was several years ago - the first initial visit at a reduced rate was something I just couldn't pass up. From what I remember, the massage was good but since I was underemployed and didn't have coverage under my health plan, I didn't return... until two years ago. I broke a bone in my elbow which caused secondary issues with my neck that I've been managing for some time now which can be helped with massage therapy. My first, and only thought really, was Massage Addict. Since I had such a great experience that first time, I returned and never looked back. I'd consider myself a semi-regular. There are times when I go once a month, times when I only go every three - depending on my schedule and pain levels but I always feel very welcomed and at home every time I go, regardless of the frequency. During my last visit, I actually signed up for the membership - to make the most of my health plan offerings. If you're an avid massage-goer, it's really the best way to go. If you don't have a membership, have no fear! - the prices are still reasonable. read more

I was super impressed to see that an introductory hour of massage at the new Martello Street location will run you a mere $39 at Massage Addict! Less tax and tip but still! Essentially, you pay a monthly membership fee which is the cost of one massage. After that you pay the same 'low' (so the website says) rate for all subsequent massages that month. As an added bonus, family members are able to use your massage membership rate as well! $39 is enough to get me in but i'll let you know how my first massage addict appointment goes! read more

This place is great for booking on short notice. However, I will not be going back here. I normally go to physiotherapy for my shoulder but had not been able to go for a couple of weeks because of my availability. I was feeling really sore so I thought that a massage would help me out during my long stretch between appointments. I am familiar with message therapy having received many painful, but therapeutic, sport massages while I was a varsity athlete. The massage I received here was deep but provided no relief, instead it seemed to have just bruised my muscles across my shoulders so instead of being particularly sore in one area I was sore everywhere. read more

This is the only massage place I have tried since I moved to the city but there's really no reason to try anywhere else. I was overly impressed with my massage today. I've gotten a lot of massages and I have never had a female therapist before because i like deeeeep tissue and figure men press harder but this girl targeted muscles better and worked deeper than most. Not only did she explain throughouly, she took into consideration what I was saying and implemented it into her treatment. I visited this location with my husband and the experience was nice. My husband had Hani do massage for him and I get Lisa. He felt really relaxed after the massage. I felt the same but However I dint feel the place pampers you at all. It's more for people who go for massage for treatment n relaxation. Not leaves you a feeling of pampering and luxurious time spend. (Like the pricey spas do) over all I would recommend if you don't wanna over spend and need relaxation. You could not expect a more central location. What really impressed me is this company's public relations. I had been a customer for some time now on and off but always with the same therapist. I enjoy her style as she does a very deep and pressure type of treatment which was always helpful to my back condition. I went online to try to book an apt with her and oh no she was gone? I e-mailed the company asking where did she go? I received a response the next day from the owner of the company. This is so impressive on many levels to me because owners of business I have dealt with in the past and worked for always delegate phones and e-mails to somebody else and this business has a few locations to take care of. The owner advised me where she went to work and offered me a special offer to stay with her business. I don't know what else I can say 5 stars all around. read more

Given so many positive reviews I was surprised to receive such a mediocre massage. The masseuse had no idea what he was doing, my boyfriend can give exactly the same, probably better, massage. And he's a banker. The monthly rate is not particularly good either. I'll continue to go my regular masseuse and pay the same rate as here for 45 mins, but walk out feeling like a million bucks. read more

I started coming here because they have prenatal massage tables, and I've been going ever since. The online booking is super convenient and easy to use, and there are always lots of choices for appointments, including evenings. The facility is very nice and clean. I've booked massages with many of the staff and have always had a good experience. It's also rather easy to book with the same person each time, if you find someone you really like (especially if you book a few weeks in advance.) The staff are always very cognizant of what is written on your form, including whether you want to chat during your treatment, or if there are any areas to avoid. The best part is, with the monthly membership deal I can afford to have more massages per year through my health insurance, and I've been feeling great! read more

I've been getting regular massages for 13 years and while having a preference for a certain style, I have never considered a massage that didn't suit my preference to be "bad". Until now. I booked a massage with Andrew S because my regular RMT was on vacation this week and I tweaked my shoulder and needed a little TLC. Booking online was easy and probably the smoothest part of this whole experience. When I arrived, I filled out the Health Questionnaire (I hadn't been to this location before) and indicated my two areas of concern: a muscle strain behind my right shoulder blade and tightness in my jaw from clinching when I'm anxious/stressed. Andrew came in the room and we briefly discussed my shoulder concern and then he left so I could get undressed. The first things I noticed that was a bit strange was the room. There was music playing, but you could barely hear it over the sound of what I'm pretty sure was a portable heater given how warm it was. It was a small thing though and I was more interested in the massage than the music, so I didn't really mind and I settled in for my treatment. Andrew started by pulling the skin/muscles on my back away from each other; a common technique that I was familiar with so I relaxed and started to zone out all of my inner dialogue and tuned into the sensations of my body - I really wanted to enjoy this and savour every moment. Unfortunately, everything afterward the muscle pulling was a complete train wreck. Andrew gave me the kind of massage I would expect if you took someone off the street, showed them a video with a handful of techniques, and they walked away saying "Easy! I can do that!" and then set up their own shop in their basement. Honestly, I'm genuinely interested where Andrew learned this techniques because it was nothing like I had ever experienced before (and not in a good way). You know that sensation you get when you rub the same part of your skin over and over in the same motion? The kind of uncomfortable burning and tenderness that comes with constant friction? Well that's what the majority of this massage was. It became clear that Andrew only had about 2-3 moves per muscle group and boy did he employ them with vigorous repetition. I am a big fan of deep massages, I don't like the gentle, relaxing kind that feel nice but don't feel like they are doing much so I am all for digging your knuckles and elbow into my muscles if that's what's needed to loosen them. I trust my RMT to apply the appropriate pressure to tackle the problem in front of them and to check in with me to make sure it's not causing more harm than good. I do speak up when it gets to be too much, but by and large I understand that there are cases where it's not going to tickle, but it's worth it. Even so, I was surprised by how painful Andrews treatment of my right shoulder was. He didn't ease into it, he didn't ask me how it felt or if the pressure was okay, he just dug into a really tender and injured area using a technique that in the 13 years I have been going to RMTs, I've never experienced. At one point I considered stopping him because my muscle started to feel like it was being stabbed with needles. Fortunately, he didn't invest any more time in addressing my injury than he did with the left side of my body and that portion was soon over. He moved on to my neck and employed what I can only call the "small circles" style of massage therapy that was neither unpleasant nor particularly enjoyable. Then he moved to my jaw. Anybody that has ever had jaw massage knows that it is a very sensitive area and it's easy to chase the pain there so it requires a certain delicacy. As I sit here writing this my jaw aches from where Andrew drove his fingers into my jaw muscles with reckless abandon. I am not embellishing when I say that I almost screamed. It hurt. It still hurts. He ended the massage by doing the small circles thing on my temples and then saying "Well - that's it!" and standing up. I'm sure there are a lot of wonderful RMTs at this location, but Andrew... I will never, ever return to this guy again. He had no sense of pacing, amateur if not ill-informed technique, and not once did he ask me how it was feeling, how the pressure was, etc. It's like he had no awareness or understanding of my body. I was genuinely surprised by how quickly I just wanted the whole thing to be over. As I said, I've had massages in the past where me and the RMT just didn't match well, but I never considered those massages to be bad, they just weren't for me. This was bad. I really hope that he continues to upgrade his skills and grows with time and experience because while I'm sure he's a nice guy, he is just not on par with his peers. read more

I read many good reviews on this place and decided to try it, however I had a horrible first-time experience: 1) I had told the massage therapist to work on my back, shoulders and neck. When working on my back in the beginning, she was chaffing my skin so hard (no lotion or oils) that it was hurting 2) Working on my lower back, she kept repeatedly grinding over my pelvic bones? (the bone right above your bum) that it was hurting a lot (and not in a good way). I have been to quite a few massages over the years and I've never had a massage therapist do that. 3) When working on my neck, I told her all the tension was in the back of my neck and base of my skull but for the large portion of that part, she kept rubbing firmly over the front of my throat making me want to gag constantly...I've also never had an RMT do that as well and it made me really uncomfortable. 4) After turning me face up for the neck portion of the massage, she wrapped a small towel above the upper half of my head (to keep the hair out I'm assuming) but when working on my neck, her hands kept pulling at the towel which in turn, would make it ride upwards. At one point it was uncomfortably peeling my eyelids back because her hands (or arms) kept pulling at the towel and it eventually came off anyways.. 5) The room has a duct or really thin walls because all I could hear the whole hour were two ladies loudly chatting and laughing in the room next to us. So much for the quiet soft ambiance you're supposed to have during a relaxing massage I'm sure there are very good and competent massage therapists out of the 15-20 that work there and I just had a stroke of bad luck. I would recommend asking someone who gave this place a good review to refer the name of their RMT to you so that you can give this place a fair try, but I won't be coming back after my time here. read more

I've been a member at the $59/hr price point for over six months now and although I don't really need monthly treatments it has benefited chronic problems. I've seen a couple therapists with Joanna being my regular. She and all the staff are top of the line professional, like any other downtown spa. im not supper convinced with this company. the average massage career is 5-10 years tops at 20 hours a week. these employees are well getting underpaid for the work they do.. sure the company says benefits "can" be provided but the therapist is being undercut and so are all the rest of the therapists working hard to make 30 k a year.. im not that impressed to promote undercutting people considering most people dont pay out of there pocket anyways. its just another big corp undercutting the locals.. think about it if you are paying so little what is the therapist getting??? the average massage therapist for an hour at 80 dollars gets 40 dollars than pays HST and taxes on this leaves about 29 dollars a massage at 20 hours a week. I say good idea bad execution.. at least pay the therapist more. And that means charging the standard rates in the area. read more

I have to say I'm disappointed in my first visit to Massage Addict. I suffer from chronic muscle tension due to an anxiety disorder and medication. I don't have insurance so when I get a massage I pay in full out of my own pocket (not that this matters just that when I can afford it I like to receive the best possible treatment I can). My massage therapist was friendly and seemed to be listening to my complaints prior to the massage. I was very specific about the spots that were hard to live with and keeping me up at night. I was honestly surprised to notice she was basically ignoring the regions in pain and focusing on parts that weren't even bothering me that much. For example I specified how much pressure my lower back would need and she would focus on my upper back and taper off with the pressure when she reached my lower back?? I was very confused and it left me frustrated. I left there feeling exactly the same pain I went in there with. I have very specific areas of tension and I honestly would have preferred if she spent the majority of the hour on the places I asked for instead of wasting time on my shoulder blades and upper back. Honestly my little brother standing on my back provides more relief than Sandra did for my specific case. I feel bad being harsh but I Feel like she just didn't listen to a word I said. I will NEVER spend 60$ for someone to rub cream on my back again. The website specified that deep tissue massage was available and I went in there expecting a deep tissue massage. From a customer's point of view a deep tissue massage entails a level of localized intense pressure focused on a point of injury or tension. My understanding was that the muscle fibers need to be kneaded and loosened at the location of the pain. I didn't get 1% of this today. I couldn't even feel enough pressure for it to feel pleasant let alone work out any kinks. read more
