He made a significant error on my tax return by entering my mortgage interest as earned interest, which incorrectly disqualified me from the Earned Income Tax Credit and reduced my refund. I discovered the mistake months later. Although he corrected the return and apologized, he seemed angry that I stumbled upon his error. I was left with little confidence in his attention to detail or professionalism. As a personal favor in part because I did not realize my boyfriend had paid Joe to help with my taxes, I connected Joe with my father who is an experienced electrician. My father provided detailed guidance numerous times on electrical issues for Joe's detached office he was building--advice that would normally cost hundreds of dollars and addressed potential safety issues that could have resulted in a fire. Months later, when my boyfriend sought Joe's assistance with administrative paperwork for the nonprofit I was forming, Joe and his business partner unexpectedly accused me of engaging in usury without providing any factual basis. The allegation was particularly puzzling, as I do not lend money in either a personal or business capacity. Joe then warned my boyfriend that "armed agents" could "show up" at his workplace because of his involvement in filing paperwork for my nonprofit, based solely on Joe's speculation that I might engage in future financial misconduct. He also claimed that my boyfriend assisting me could jeopardize his ability to obtain a security clearance for his career. These statements were entirely unsupported and particularly ironic because I'm a former Naval Officer who held a security clearance. Joe has never served in the military nor held a security clearance. Based on my experience, I would not trust Joe Stacy with my personal finances or any business matters.
