This is the best mosque/masjid in San Francisco (sorry Islamic Society of SF at 20 Jones St, you…read morehave officially been dethroned). This is a small, warm, community masjid, with no barrier between the men and women, women are actually close enough to see the imam, khutbahs (sermons) are in English, and the Muslim Journal (African American Muslim newspaper that prints pieces of religious and political importance and is in English) is for sale after jummah. The imam won me over permanently by having part of the khutbah be about racism in Islam and how it's ridiculous mosques are known by the group that dominates them (the Yemeni mosque, the Pakistani mosque, etc). He said it like it is, Muslims can be some of the most racist people. Desis that won't marry non-desis, Arabs that don't like Desis, etc, etc. Sure, he was clearly preaching to the choir, but it felt good to hear it and it was awesome he recognized how nice it would be to have more immigrants in the audience (maybe 30 men at the end and 4 women, mostly African American). I am definitely going back. Thank you for providing a religious space where I feel at home. Alhamdillilah I've found you at last.

The brother here is wonderful to listen to and I'm in tune 100% of the time despite having severe concentration issues. Very elegant and has a very calm demeanor. Very friendly brothers and sisters attending this location.

1 Star - Absolutely Disgusted, Disappointed, and Unacceptable Treatment of Children…read more I am beyond disappointed and absolutely disgusted with the level of unprofessionalism, disrespect, and harsh treatment my grandchildren have experienced at this Arabic school. I trusted this institution to provide a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment, and instead, I have been left completely shocked by the way children and families are treated. Let me make one thing very clear: Working with children is a responsibility and a privilege, not an opportunity to intimidate, disrespect, belittle, or treat them harshly. If you do not have the patience, compassion, professionalism, and basic human decency required to work with children, then you have absolutely no business being in education. What makes this situation even more upsetting is that this is an Arabic school, where I expected respect, kindness, good manners, and strong moral values to be demonstrated. Instead, my experience has been the complete opposite. It is extremely disappointing to see people who are supposed to be positive role models behaving in ways that contradict the very values they should be teaching. You cannot teach children respect while showing them disrespect. You cannot teach kindness while treating them harshly. And you cannot expect families to trust you when your behavior demonstrates a complete lack of professionalism. My grandchildren are children. They are there to learn, grow, and build confidence, not to be made uncomfortable or discouraged by adults who should know better. There is absolutely no justification for treating children with unnecessary harshness. Discipline and education should never come at the expense of a child's dignity or emotional well-being. The disrespectful attitudes and lack of professionalism I have experienced are completely unacceptable. Families should not have to question whether their children will be treated with basic kindness and respect when attending school. That should be the absolute minimum expectation, not something we have to fight for. As a grandparent, it is heartbreaking and infuriating to place your trust in an institution only to feel that your grandchildren have not been treated with the care and respect they deserve. I take the well-being of my grandchildren extremely seriously, and I will never remain silent when I believe they are being treated unfairly. A school does not deserve respect simply because it calls itself an educational institution. Respect is earned through actions, accountability, professionalism, and the way you treat children. A school can teach every lesson in the world, but if its staff cannot demonstrate basic compassion and respect, then what kind of example is it setting? I am not writing this review out of a minor disagreement or because I expect special treatment. I am writing it because the behavior I have experienced is unacceptable, and other families deserve to know about my concerns before trusting this school with their children. The administration needs to seriously evaluate the attitudes, conduct, and professionalism of the people representing this institution. Children should never have to suffer because adults lack patience, understanding, or the ability to communicate respectfully. Shame on any educational institution that allows children or their families to feel disrespected, intimidated, or unwelcome. There is no excuse for it, and it should never be normalized. I had hoped this school would help my grandchildren develop a love for the Arabic language and a meaningful connection to their culture. Instead, this experience has left me with nothing but disappointment, frustration, and serious concerns about the environment being provided. I would strongly urge every parent and grandparent to think carefully before enrolling their children here. Ask questions, pay attention, listen to your children, and never ignore concerns about how they are being treated. My grandchildren deserve better. Every child deserves better. And this school needs to do better. I am extremely disappointed, and based on my family's experience, I would absolutely not recommend this school to anyone. An institution that works with children should be held to the highest standards of respect, patience, compassion, and professionalism. Anything less is unacceptable.
