Three stars means I like it. We had the buffet for dinner. All the food was delicious. There was a…read morecrumby-mango pud that I have never had before which was very nice. The naan was fresh and yummy! The buffet was confusing though, one of the steamer trays held a dish which was not included in the buffet (paneer in butter masala sauce), according to the employee everything else in the steamer trays was included-- but the sign on the wall said something different (can't remember what, just followed what the employee said). The vegan buffet was not available, this was just a regular vegetarian buffet. Buffet comes in four sizes, small, medium, large, and all-you-can-eat.

Great food, reasonable prices, good portions. I always leave here happy and satisfied. The staff…read moreare very helpful explaining what things are and the menu has vegan items clearly labeled. Some things, like the corn soup (delicious!), can be made vegan upon request, so just ask. Their chai tea is out of this world. I get it without milk (hello, I'm vegan) and it knocks my socks off every time. Impressive because it's brewed with real spices meaning it's not just a tea bag dunked in hot water like you get at some places. The pakoras are awesome if you get them first thing in the morning. They usually put them out around 10:30am or so. If you get them in the morning when they're fresh you'll be treated to crispy balls of mixed vegetables battered in chickpea flour (they're not as good at the end of the day). They make a great breakfast or snack. But wait. Higher Taste now also serves breakfast from 7:30am-10am M-F, and oh what a wonderful breakfast it is! All breakfast items are $5 so it's not only the best breakfast in town but also the most economical. I love their masala dosa. The dosa is crisp and the curried potato inside is rich with flavor. Dip it into the accompanying coconut chutney and sambar and it's the perfect combination of flavors. Plus you can't beat a $5 breakfast dosa. From the regular menu my favorites are the veggie Manchurian, vegetable biryani, masala dosa, the bain-marie buffet (aka steam table), and all of their soups. The veggie balls in the Manchurian are reminiscent of the pakoras only they come covered in a delicious red gravy with a bowl of white basmati rice on the side. The gravy is savory, spiked with ginger, and can be made sweeter with the use of tomato sauce (ketchup). The vegetable biryani here always surprises me with its blend of spices and fullness of flavor. This is a dish I've been disappointed by at most Indian restaurants, but not here. I love the biryani here and will order it again and again. The masala dosa is identical to the breakfast dosa except for the addition of tomato chutney that sometimes makes an appearance with it. This dosa hits it out of the ballpark every time so you can't go wrong by ordering it. If you like curried potatoes wrapped in a thin, crispy crepe-like batter, you'll love this dosa. Now for the steam table buffet. This is a fantastic buffet. You choose a small, medium or large plate and then just go to town. You're only allowed one visit to the buffet so make it count. I've gotten pretty good at using the rice to make a barrier for the daal so it doesn't run off the plate. Their daal is heavenly. Other vegan items I've encountered at the buffet include sautéed mixed vegetables (sounds boring but they are lightly spiced and delicious!), curried potatoes and peas with tvp, veggie curry, halvah (yay, it's vegan in the buffet, but if you order it off the menu you must request it vegan), pappadum, poori bread, purple slaw (the green one is not vegan), and pickled vegetables (if you like Indian pickle, you will not be disappointed by this). They typically also have fried spiced potatoes as a choice, but I've always found them to be a bit dry so I tend to skip them. I love all their soups, especially the corn soup which can be made vegan with the omission of cream cheese. It's spicy with ginger and black pepper and comes garnished with chopped cilantro. This is my go-to soup on cold, blustery days. In the dessert case there's a decadent bar called almond delight. Be careful to choose the one that's marked vegan because there are two, one vegan and one made with dairy, and they look identical. The almond delight bar is sweet, crunchy and delicious, the perfect end to any meal. I forgot to mention that all their food is made without the use of onion or garlic. But this definitely doesn't impact the flavor of any of their dishes as everything I've had here tastes so good. If you're vegan or vegetarian or simply enjoy delicious food made with care (it definitely shows), Higher Taste is the place to satisfy your appetite. It's simply delicious!
