It's been a while since I've been as I don't tend to stay out at the bars post 2 AM anymore, but I went about a year ago and had fun. People seemed to have fun dancing and the bartenders were mostly nice and fairly responsive considering how packed it was at 4 AM. I ordered a burger for takeout when we left and they accidentally forgot about my order. So after 20 min I asked and they had to fire me one then. Whatever, I don't get too picky about timing at said hour. The burger itself was fine; it seemed to be a standard 1/2 lb frozen Sysco burger. I seriously don't get how people say it's the best in town at all. The burgers at Fon Fon and Bottega are far superior and even the grease bombs at Becky's or the double stack at Golden Rule are better taste-wise. With that said, it is the best burger in town post-2 AM when the other options are gnawing off an arm or McDonalds. I would like to try their grilled cheese. I love a good grilled cheese. read more

Not the same as the original Marty's. That said I enjoyed the drinks and the bartender was friendly and quick. I haven't tried the food but others say it's good. One of the few bars that stay open late. I recommend trying this place. Love music on Saturday nights. read more

First of all this is probably a place I wouldn't have checked out w/o a recommendations. But, after midnight there are not many options if you get hungry. Small space with a $5 cover (band playing inside). Equal space indoor and outdoor. Had the bacon cheeseburger. I like that all toppings including condiments come on the side so you can customize to your liking. Very large burger with a bag of chips as the side. We were outside as they were pet friendly and in this space you couldn't hear the band very well. Overall a good experience and fills the need for your late night hunger needs. read more

After a long day of business in the Birmingham area Marty's was recommended by a local for late night eats. Upon arriving 2 specific drinks were ordered, served incorrectly. (Wrong Vodka used.) I then grabbed a larger cup, to combine my drinks and the bartender became irate. (Bri was her name) She was disrespectful, rude and just a horrible representative of Marty's. This bartender was more concerned with taking shots at the end of the bar (while on clock) rather than perform her job in a respectable positive manner. As a visitor in the city of Birmingham I've never felt so un-welcomed and disrespected. To make the matter worse, I ordered food to go, later discovering that either the server "Jason H." or possibly "Bri" her self wrote a nasty message on my receipt stating "Bitch Bri Hates". This is beyond unprofessional and unacceptable in the service industry. SO, I get the 5 star ratings, I guess, from regulars, which I feel like I am becoming, but I don't know where they come from. Maybe because it serves its purpose? It's a dive. There is nothign wrong with a dive FOR SURE, but it is what it is. They have burgers with Golden Flake chips, and they are good enough for the post-bar scene crowd, but certainly not AMAZING or even above average. The drink selection is ok, the service is fine. There is a back porch that is incredibly smoke filled, but that, too, is to be expected. I don't consider 3 stars a bad rating...like it says, this place is A-OK. This is the place that you go when you just want a no frills dive that has all your essentials. They serve food until 5am and serve drinks until 6am. It is pretty dark but a good place to just let loose and have some straight forward drinks. There isn't a dress code, but I wouldn't show up in your Sunday best as you'd be out of place. This is a "club" so you will need to pay for a membership which is $2. They have a solid mix of spirits, a bunch of local beers and some bota box wine. I was in town for work, a few colleagues and I were looking for a late night option. This place was great. It was about 2 am, after Thursday night and there was a good crowd there. So last night, the girl at the front taking money was EXTREMELY rude to my friends and I. She told me and my sister we were "too drunk" to come in when we were fine. Nothing even happened before that to make it seem like we were "too drunk." We got out of our ubers in front of the entrance and she said she would let the other five people we were with in but not myself or my sister. And she continued to say rude things while we were standing in front of her like, "we don't want trashy girls in here stumbling and bumping into people." Then she continued to laugh about our reactions with the guy standing next to her taking money. It's a shame that y'all hired someone extremely rude to work the door because Marty's is a fun place but none of us will ever come back. In a sea of dance clubs and bars packed out with teenagers and barely legal college kids, Mary's is a shining beacon of hope for our generation. I LOVE Marty's. It's chil most of the time but sometimes they invite a DJ or have an after party for a big event and then it's a completely different place. Not only are the drinks good and not pricey but the food is absolutely fantastic. There are some nights that we'll just go to Marty's and grab a bite to eat to start, end or continue our night. Marty's is one of my go-to spots for the late late night, the other being The Nick. The Nick for the music and atmosphere and Marty's for the food. Honestly, this isn't really my idea of a fun place to hang out as the music isn't my cup of tea, it's pretty small and cramped, there's only one pool table, they only accept cash...but their burgers are HANDS DOWN the best in the city! For such a simple thing, the grilled cheese is pretty great as well. No fries, only a bag of chips with a pickle wedge, but I don't consider that a bad thing. After a fun night of heavy drinkin', this is the place to go at 4 am to get some excellent bar food. Go on a night when they aren't charging a cover. read more

Marty's used to be a very cool dive bar back in the day...with awesome service, good drinks, and delicious food!! I haven't tried the food yet, but have not heard nearly as many good things about it as I used to. The drinks are still good, but the service is nowhere near the level that it used to be. Also, I wish they would have just left the interior alone instead of putting up the "fancier" looking brick wall over the mural that was there before. I mean, the place is still a dive bar despite some nice new finishes. I do love that they are open until 6 AM, providing an alternative to some of the other late night "club" type bars. read more

If a dive bar is what you're looking for then look no further. Marty's is as dive as it get sand that's meant as a compliment. When we went into Marty's there were about 10-15 people I the bar. Everyone was extremely friendly. As far as beer goes its just the basics. About 5 all in bottles/cans. They do have a full bar as well though. A soon as we walked in and heard the band playing Merle Haggard I know this was going to be a great dive. The bathrooms were surprisingly clean. Also they have a book loan policy. The indie bar of Birmingham. A dive bar located in 5 points that stays open until 7 in the morning. An excellent corner bar seems to be a gathering point for locals. The doorman are as nice as can be. The bartenders are hilarious. Also this place has the best grilled cheese in America. I had to take away a star because they only take cash and the bathroom line gets so long that it seems you buy a beer and go wait in line to use the bathroom. read more

It was pretty good. Never being here before we walked in after 9 but before 10 and there were a couple of people there we felt super awkward so we decided to sit outside where we were going to leave. While deciding we sat outside on the tables. We were already having someone to meet up with us and we were still there when they finally got there. There was an employee who turned on a light or two (so it wasn't pitch black) and some music and setting up a table. Shortly after more people started arriving ( I suppose this is when it started hoping, after 10pm) because ID's were checked and it seemed like a cover was being charged. We didn't pay one I assume because we were there before 10? I am VERY glad that we sat outside tho. It quickly became crowded and the inside was LOUD because the number of people, size of the bar, and the karaoke going on. But drink prices were good O thought- a beer and 2 vodka cranberries were less than $6 total. I believe they also server some type of food. But over all it was a nice experience. I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars only because the sheer volume coming from inside was ridiculous if you were to sit inside.
