Martineau Guest House is a cosy, family-run B&B in a fantastic sea-side location. The decor is tasteful and the ambience is stylish yet relaxed, with lots of little touches and attention to detail which larger places lack (books to borrow, a decanter and glasses in the hallway). The owners cook your breakfast to order from a delicious menu which includes 'tipsy porridge' (porridge with cream and whisky - has to be tasted!) and Northumbrian kippers. They are happy to cater for vegetarians and the approach is friendly without being intrusive. Great value in terms of comfort and level of service/comfort - although a small B&B this is a treat to stay in. Highly recommended! (Also has connections with a pioneering female sociologist, Harriet Martineau). read more
