If you're ever in Kingston, be sure to stop by the Martello Alley to see some great local artists work and meet some very friendly artists! We came for a quick visit I think it was November, so it was quite chilly and snow-y outside. Thought the alley might be closed but as you walk in, the sensored lights turn on and greet you with beautiful works of art. Infact, the entire alley itself IS a work of art. David, the owner, has, in his own genius, turned what use to be a shabby dark alley, into a whole new scenery!! It's such a delightful little space that I think artists would love to gather, especially in the summer as he has a patio space. Sip some coffee, make some art, admire some beauty. :) David was so friendly too! He showed us all the "behind the scenes" of the pieces in the alley. The befores and afters are quite remarkable. As a very creative and resourceful individual myself, I truly appreciate the thought that went behind creating something so amazing out of seemingly not much. David is very passionate and proud of his work, and rightfully so! I hope more people come visit this alley and support the local artists! read more

Nestled in the very heart of Kingston, Martello Alley brings the community and culture of the city together in one large artistic explosion. Upon entering you are unsure of what you have found. A mysterious place reminiscent of another time and world, the Alley lends its way to a something magical. One wouldn't guess the stone walkway is a mere facade, made by painting the pavement to mirror the old historical cobblestone walkways found around the city's downtown core. There is a whole other world to be found in Martello Alley and this is even before entry to the gallery itself. Inside you find a platitude of wonders bursting with unprecedented talent. Local artists merged together to display an array of different styles pulling historically from Realism, Impressionism, Pop Art and Abstraction. Together they share love of nature, movement, emotion and color. You will find brilliantly painted scenes of Kingston in the fall, waterscapes of snow angels filled with childhood nostalgia, colorful abstractions bursting with color, glowing painted glass, multi purpose screens and more. There is always something new to be discovered here. Luckily if you can not afford an original piece of art here, David, the shop owner, has provided the community with a plethora of prints available for around the 20$ mark. A very promising gallery that hopes to bring the art and culture of Kingston to the world.
