The sign at the bridge attributes it to D.M. Brown. Brown won the contract to build the bridge, but had to call in Hendricks to undertake the project.

The bridge is a standard Burr Arch-truss structure in the familiar red and white colors with black lettering. The bridge is 111 feet in length and spans Mill Creek 90 feet. The bridge is open to through traffic without any place designated to pull off, so be aware of traffic if you pull over and walk through the bridge. The bridge is located about 8 miles northwest of Turkey Run. However, there is no direct route to get there. So, I would suggest heading west to US 41, then north about 3.25 miles to 1050 N. Head west about 6 miles passed Sylvania and Tangier to Tow Path road. Then head south about a half mile to reach the bridge. If you use alternate routes, you will probably encounter gravel roads. Either way, your driving speeds will be reduced due to limited road width and winding roads. Review #3225

It is in the northeastern corner of the county, where it originally spanned Big Raccoon Creek. Due to heavy Spring flooding that continually threatened, the bridge, it was relocated in 1961 to carry County Road 650N across Little Raccoon Creek, near the junction with Dooley and Saddle Club Roads (all three roads have gravel surfaces). Still in service, the bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Built in 1856, this bridge spans 130' over the Little Raccoon Creek on County Road 650 N. This bridge was moved to this location in 1961 to replace another bridge. It took until 1996 to repair and reopen the bridge. Yes, you can drive through, but only and a walking pace. It does have windows on one side of the bridge, so if you are alert, you can walk across the bridge and look out at the creek. There is no designated parking, so you have to pull over along the side of the road as best you can. Fortunately, there was little to no traffic during my visit. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The bridge is done in all white which is atypical for the bridges of Parke County which normally have red sides. From Marshall, you take SR 236 east to the junction with SR 59. Take the first county road to the north (Saddle Club Road) about 1 mile north to 650N. The bridge is just a short distance to the east. From Waveland, head south on SR 59 for about 1 mile to 650N. Go west on 650N about 2 miles to reach the bridge. Note that you may drive on gravel roads if that is a concern for your vehicle. Just to the west of the road is a covered bridge that was built in 1882 but was bypassed for preservation and safety. The new road has stairs that lead down to the covered bridge though I didn't see any designated parking. So, be careful pulling off the road to park and crossing to the stairs. The bridge is listed as 121 feet long though I don't know if that is the total length or just the length of the span over Sugar Creek. The bridge features the standard Burr Arch-truss support system and uses the standard red and white colors with black lettering. You can walk through the bridge and because it is no longer used for traffic, you can get some decent views of the bridge as you move around the grounds on either end. Review #3229

It is one of a dozen covered bridges that he built in Parke County, and it has the distinction at 43 feet in length of being the shortest of the 31 surviving bridges. In the National Register of Historic Places since 1978, it is #22 on the Parke Country Covered Bridge Map. You will find it about six miles west of Rockville, just off US 36.

One of the smaller covered bridges of Parke County can be found on the "Brown" Route designed by…read morethe County for exploring their multiple bridges. The Phillips Covered Bridge is only 60 feet in length and spans 39 feet over Rocky Run. Though it has the standard Parke County colors of red walls, with white faces and black lettering, the bridge is a rarity in these parts. It doesn't use the standard Burr Arch-truss support system. Instead, it uses a multiple Kingpost through truss system. No long curved arch in this one. Just lots of sturdy vertical beams. To view this drive through bridge, take US 36 west from Rockville to CR W 40N (about 4.5 miles). Take that to about a third of a mile to Arabia Road. The bridge is about 400 feet to the south. The road is paved! The bridge is less than a mile away from Sim Smith Covered Bridge which is further west on W 40N. Review #3215

The Burr arch-truss style bridge was built in 1908 and restored in 1977, so it is in pretty good shape. The bridge is still in service though traffic is told to greatly reduce speeds to a walking pace to cross the span. The red and white bridge with black lettering has a total length of a modest 81 feet with a span of around 61 feet which crosses the Rock Run. To find this bridge, take US 41 west of Rockville just passed Mecca Road to CR 325W (4.3 miles). Head south for 5 miles to reach the bridge. Much of this is gravel road. Also of interest is that this bridge is only 0.8 miles away from Roseville Covered Bridge which is also on CR 325W to the south. Zacke Cox Covered Bridge is fairly close to the north along CR 325W, half a mile east on Tickridge Road. If you are coming from Rosedale, take Main Street/Coxville Road north 2.25 miles to Coxville and CR 325W. Head east/north for about 1 mile on CR 325W. Review #3203

This covered bridge is the longest remaining bridge of its kind in Parke County. Spanning a…read morewhopping 315 feet, the overall length of the bridge is 337 feet! It's still a long way from the longest in Indiana and less than half of the length of the long gone Clinton Bridge that once was 730'! Still, I give this bridge its due and that alone makes it worth the out of the way drive to find it. Although it's on the Yellow route for Parke County's bridge trail, it is rather isolated from the others. Located about 5 miles north of Montezuma and 8.5 miles northwest of Rockville, it is fortunate to have mostly paved roads though there are frequent turns and travel is at a slower rate for safety. The bridge itself has been closed off from vehicular traffic as is spans Sugar Creek. It is in need of repair and clean up as graffiti is visible inside. Still, it is an impressive size and I like that it has the windows for viewing outside and providing a light source as you pass through. The structure is the standard Burr Arch-truss style with the Parke County colors of red and white with black lettering. The bridge is located on Tow Path Road (CR 525W). You can get there via 600W from Montezuma or using Strawberry Road and 10 O'Clock road from Rockville. Review #3221

I needed to have a test done for a new job and called the Montgomery county health department to…read moreschedule an appointment. The staff was very friendly and scheduling was a breeze. Unfortunately they were still waiting for the necessary materials to arrive so the staff promptly called me and asked if I could reschedule for the next day. We also chose a different time in the day, just to make sure that the supplies were ready for my appointment. I can honestly say that their staff is some of the nicest I have met, especially at a health department!

Thats…read moreright, Chicago, I said Depauw with a "w". and it is awesome. there is no better place to spend a weekend (or summer if you are me) running around barefoot and going canoeing, camping etc while still close to town. I love it ! I love the down to earth people here, the good-hearted community and the hard-working locals, as well as the fresh air. I live in Chicago and the suburbs have nothing on Greencastle. The best part though is that like an oasis in all this country-bumpkinism (or hippy-do-da-ism :) is the University! Filled with diversity and fresh faces and minds and movement. What a great balance to the traditionalism of this blue-collar town.
