It's a great way to get to know your city and also pick up some great bargains. Typically held during spring and summer it's an event most locals look forward to. Centered around Wörthstraße the Haidhausen flea market is quite big and loads of residents put out their wares. Tons of clothes, toys, household items and knick knacks about. Don't hesitate to bargain, it is expected ;-)) I always do anyway, it's in my blood "born to negotiate" lol Loads of cafes in the area and you can pop in for coffee or lunch and make a day of it. One of my top three markets in town and one that I try not to miss each year :-)) muenchen.de is the website to find out when all the flea markets around Munich are. If the weather is good it's a fabulous way to spend a day in town.

I went there in April 2015 and found the market to be really huge but terribly overpriced for most…read moreitems sold. I was specifically looking for vintage clothing and accessories, there was hardly any. Many other items for sale were in average condition with obvious flaws, prices for a good quality bag in good condition would start from 100 Euros. Lego kits would cost more then on auction sites (I bought one for my children and it was 40 Euros online while similar kits were prices from 65 to 80 at the market). I am sure there were bargains but I was not lucky enough to find them. Overall I did expect much more from a market of this size, I have visited other markets, 10 times smaller and surely cheaper with better choice.

There is also another flea market two minutes down the road underneath the Adler. Both markets have a bit of junk to sift through but there are a few jems to be found. Some religious iconography, traditional Austrian clothing/regular clothing. Mid Century (mostly west germ pottery, murano glass spheres, saw one Bitossi), military garb (swords etc), Bohemian crystal, costume jewellery and Austrian wooden crafts etc.. Junk was 2000s trinkets, electronics, records, fishing gear (quite a bit). Overall glad I went but went and found something to take home for cheap so I'm happy.... would I recommend? Well if you're into flea markets and around town, yes. If you're a casual flea then no. Not curated enough for the average punter. Takes about half an hour to get around. It's easy to get to - just take the number 10 or 2 bus, get out at the airport and 5 mins walk along the main road and you're there.
