It is also the home of a fabulous Christmas market and I am told attracts a lot of tourists in the summer months. It takes about ten mins on the ferry to get here and once you get off the ferry you feel like you have been transported to another world :-) It is quite, peaceful and you can walk around the island and take in the spectacular scenery around. There is a nice fishmonger on the island who smokes his own fish and there are a few small arts, ceramic, jewellery and gift shops. There are three or four restaurants on the island as well as a small brewery with a biergarten :-)) I would happily come back here anyday and loved the ambience of the place :-)

The place is quite spacious, and the view of the fortress is also pretty cool. Okay, it doesn't have the pull that some places happen to have, and Salzburg isn't one of the biggest cities, but this square was till rather nice.

The the organ is audible as far as 10km. The Heroes' Organ is played daily at about midday for a length from 10 to 15 minutes. During the Heroes' Organ being played the Emperor Maximilian Panorama Cable Car is idle.
