The presence of the angels is the main attraction here in this not-so-large weihnachtsmarkt located in Neumarkt Platz. "Angels" go around the market and distribute "angel dust" (fine glitters) and treats to children (photo). It's very cute and heart warming. As far as weihnactsmarkt is concerned, it's relatively small. However, with five or six other market sites combined, Kölner Weihnachtsmarkt makes it very enjoyable having variety of locations and attractions. I understand this is the oldest Christmas market in Köln. With an impressive Old City Gate with distinctive Angel theme, it really adds to the entire Christmas market scene in Köln. I may not recommend to visit this location alone, but if you include some other locations, you'll have a very nice visit of weihnachtsmarkt in Köln for sure. read more

This Christmas Market is nice, by what looks to be an old city gate it has an angel theme, the adds say there are young women (teenagers from the look) who wander around sprinkling glitter...on all my visits they were hanging out by the info desk talking to eachother. I think I liked this market because I got a cheese spatzle with crispy onions on top which was really good. This is the far end of the string of markets if you start at the Cathederal as I did, by this point most of the shops and foods look familiar, but each market has some unique to it. This market is no exception (mmmm cheesy spatzle). This like all seems a gathering place for locals to have an afterwork drink and a chat, Tip: when you buy a drink you pay a deposit that you can get back from any of the drink stands (around 2 euro's) or you can keep it. Every market in town has its own design, new every year. They make a good cheap souvineer. I have a set of 5 mugs from the 5 markets I went to. read more

This is probably the most organised of all the Christmas markets in Cologne. The stalls are all numbered and there's plenty of room to walk through and admire all the unique gifts on offer, waiting to be bought and wrapped up under a tree! Compared to UK prices, they're all good value for money. The big players of any real German Christmas market, apart from the Glühwein, are the food on offer! At this market, you'll find it all! There's also a small traditional carousel! It is well located, at Neumarkt tram stop. It has good toilet facilities - have a 50 cent ready. Come here at night or in the dark as the star lights hanging from the trees make this Christmas market really special! read more

I have been to two different Christmas markets in different locations of Germany within the 4 years that I have lived in Holland. My favorite one was definitely Koln! I honestly think that it can't get any better than Koln. It was one of the most coolest experience to hop around to so many different Christmas markets. We must of walked around to at least six different markets in the two days that we were in Koln. Nice city to enjoy during the holidays. I look forward to visiting that city again in the future with Dutchman. read more

The Angels Market This is Cologne's oldest Christmas market in town. Walk through the angel's door, become enchanted by the beautifully decorated stalls and the delightful Christmas atmosphere. Open daily 11am to 9pm (until 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays) from late November until 23rd December. This is the second tour of our event this Month: Weihnachtsmarkt tour! We were stationed in Gabriel's Glühweinstand in the corner of the Weihnachtsmarkt with very cool stand-tables and also some seating around it. It was a cold night and everyone was rushing to get their hand warm by buying cups of Glühwein. Although we are quite small in number, we always have fun. Olli our CM is buying everyone rounds of Glühwein, i think he purposedly do it to get everyone light on their feet. (Olli if you are reading this, ignore this.) We got to know more people and new yelper who is able to join us on our tour. The market itself is okay, centered in the park near bahn haltestelle which is very nice because it is easy to reach and easier to come home to when you are drunk on your 5th glass of wine. As always, although not common but be careful of your belongings. The stand that amaze me the most is the wooden stand that sells decoration, in the middle of the market. They have a set up shop with wooden walls and you can go inside and shop pretty little things for your christmas decoration. My favourite food for this Winter is Churros! That fried bread-sort-of food with melted chocolate topping. You can find this stand in the corner of the market infront of the mayersche bookstore. And i got to admit, the price is totally overrated even though the food was amazing. But, people always have fun in christmas market, especially when they are with friends and people they care about. So if you are going, make sure you are not going alone! read more

A nice Christmas market with a great selection of food. Although not as impressive as its Dom counterpart in decor, I like the array of floating Bethlehem stars and its simplicity. When we went, it seemed much more spacious and less crowded than other Christmas markets, which is a huge plus. Great location. read more

The selection of food sets Neumarkt's Christmas Market apart. Everything tastes and smells great and there's a wonderful variety to the food here too. It's gets very busy at times, but that just adds to the atmosphere. Go here when you're hungry and you won't be disappointed. It's also a very handy location with the Cathedral, Rudolfplatz and Schaafenstrasse markets within walking distance and a large metro station below. read more
