Though Marks has a shop front in one of North Sydney's office towers, you'll find the coffee vending and preparation moved out front on pavement onto what seems to be simple cafe tables. The setup includes not only the espresso machine, which would be a heavy lift exercise every morn, but also the register, a box of chewing gums (why I don't know) and a tip jar. That probably sets the scene for a coffee shop that is a bit different from the rest and keeps a young image. This image is embodied in the message-on-a-stick in the 2 litre almost full tip jar. The message reads (in case you can't read it on the image I attached):
"Hi!! Got No[sic] change to give?
That's ok! We accept VISA, MASTERCARD & AMEX. We are also happy to take any smart phone, laptop, watches... HELL, if it doesn't fit in the jar, just hand it OVER!!"
Coffee was delectable and smooth, but could have a bit more character. Service is quick and friendly.
There's also a selection of breakfast items on the menu, available from the shop behind the espresso machine. $10 with a coffee gets you one of these:
* Chef's Breakfast Stack (poached egg, crispy bacon, grilled tomato, relish on a slice of thick toast)
* Smoked salmon infused scrambled egg
* Green eggs and ham (pesto scrambled egg) - Thanks, Dr. Seuss
* Cheese and mushroom omlette
Haven't tried one of these yet, or any other food items you might be able to get indoors. Next time. read more
