Marks and Spencer opened up on Lord Street in the Liverpool One in August 2023, in the unit previously occupied by Debenhams, it replaces their Church Street location and is one of two Marks and Spencer's in the city centre, alongside one at Lime Street Station.
First impressions - the store is modern and fresh and certainly looks better than the previous store, although those who admire the beauty and charm of the listed building which housed the old location may disagree.
The Food Hall area looks bright, and fresh and is fairly spacious. There is also a selection of clothing.
The store is smaller than their previous one but is still a decent size for a city centre and I had no problem finding what I was looking for, albeit it was a small list and nothing too significant. They have two floors.
The M&S Cafe has been replaced by an M&S Coffee Shop, which serves small snacks and coffee, and only seats 24, it was such a small area, right by one of the entrances and didn't seem comfortable at all, there is only one toilet inside the store which is right at the back of the Cafe too and always has a queue.
I had to ask a staff member where the toilets were, the staff member was friendly and explained the situation above. Alternate toilets are available in the One nearby but you do have to pay 30 p to use them - which is ridiculous as no one should have to pay for a basic human right. (Again, this isn't the store's fault but having more toilets to combat the situation and to warrant the size of the store would be nice).
3* - The store looks nice enough and the selection is fine, but I wish they'd kept their old store. The listed building charm, cafe and toilets have gone and this is what remains. read more
