Sushi at Market Basket? Did you just throw up in your mouth a little? Don't. It's actually REALLY good. They have their own sushi chef - better than any other grocery store sushi. I got a rainbow roll stuffed with spicy tuna and 4 salmon / tuna nigris for only $9! I stuffed it in my purse and ate it next door during a movie at Hollywood Hits. :))) I'm a big fan of Market Basket. I love this low cost grocery chain. Sawdust on the floor, aisles that are too tight, deli lines that are wrapped around the store, sometimes its a third world country with the people who shop here... but Iove it! Market Basket has my shopping cart's attention... The store is fairly new and the aisle are large. It was busy for a Tuesday night so judging by all the other shoppers you know they must have some great deals. The deli counter had a swarm. You've cleaned up your act, I see that now. No longer do I walk in and instantly become frightened by disarray. Now, I walk in excited to be here, with your lovely staff and your cleanliness. It has been a year since I have stepped into this particular grocery. But, I needed Mace (the spice) and called everywhere, absolutely everywhere in the Northshore trying to find it. After being hung up by a Hannaford employee, it struck me that I hadn't yet thought of Market Basket. It took all of 2 seconds for the phone to be answered, another 2 for the transfer to the lady in the spice department and no time at all before she was saying that "we do indeed carry mace" right off the bat. she didn't even have to go "check" to make sure. Market Basket. It's crowded. The parking lot can be a war zone. There are often long lines at the registers. You generally have to look for hand baskets under the registers because they can't seem to keep them stocked by the entrances. They stock shelves at the most inopportune times of day. You want deli meat? Hope you've got some spare time on your hands. But despite all it's shortcomings, I love this Market Basket. They have the lowest prices of all grocery store options in this area, the store is exceptionally clean, the aisles aren't claustrophobic, and I've never seen skanky produce here, so I'll keep coming back. I'm usually able to find 99% of the things I need here unless it's an exotic spice or produce item. Also, lately I've been trying to get a little more into the whole organic thing, and I'm impressed with how many organic options the MB carries. It can be crazy busy here but the prices are amazing. The produce department is always very fresh and no other food store can compare except for Whole Foods. you just can't beat the prices. The parking lot is always full and the checkout lines can be long but so worth it. read more

This location is not my favorite market basket to shop from, but it's on my way to other places I'm going to and I always end up stopping by. What I like about here is that it's not usually very crowded. The check out line moves very fast. They have great prices on many items. Today I saw pomegranate at $2 dollars each from California and the size was pretty large. What it's lacking is cleanliness and a better bakery section. read more

One of the better Market Baskets in the area for sure. As with all Market Baskets, prices are super low! The store is kept nice and clean, and the stock is actually pretty decent. I usually don't have trouble finding what I am looking for here as opposed to some other Market Basket locations. I used to shop here in college, and it was a big disappointment when I went back home because my local Market Basket is awful compared to this one! I miss being able to find what I'm looking for and not having to double (or triple) check my produce for mold. Just be careful of the parking lot, it can get a little hectic! read more

I give this Market Basket a big thumbs up! This is now one of my two grocery stores of choice (the other being the Shaw's by the mall in Peabody). Unlike most Market Baskets, this one is neat and clean. It has a ton of selection and excellent deals (Market Basket's trademark), but the aisles are not cluttered. I actually refuse to shop at the Salem one because it completely fails in the aforementioned categories. At this Market Basket, the staff is also quite friendly and definitely willing to help. This is the best grocer around. I prefer to shop early/early/early Saturday or Sunday to avoid the crowds but sometimes find myself in the thick of it. It's disastrous. Do yourself a favor and shop on week nights. If you like sushi/sashimi... It's actually fantastic here. And I never usually eat sushi from grocery stores. read more

People think the crowds are bad here, they have never gone to the one in Salem apparently. This one does have some down time. (During the week it seems when it opens, noon and 2:30pm are the best times.) Weekends......don't bother! Prices are good, and since Stop N Shop closed in the Liberty Tree Mall you don't have many other shopping choices. I was in line with over 300$ in food, paying cash, and in a hurry to get home when the cashier decided to take her time and do a money pick up by a manager without even explaining to the customer what she was doing, which was rude!!! Her and the manager then started singing and I started singing that I was in a hurry please and I just looked at me like I was crazy. I work in Retail and I know if you're going to keep a customer waiting you tell them exactly why and you apologize I could not believe that the manager did not even apologize or say sorry this is taking so long. Been to this and other stores many, many, many times. Today I purchased a few things which were Definitely Cheaper than the other major chain supermarkets. Produce was fresh, they give a discount on greeting cards and shampoo, deodorant and toothpaste is dramatically cheaper than elsewhere. The cashier greeted me, was extremely personable as have been most of the cashiers I have dealt with. In and out quickly, the have tons of lines open. A+++ in my book. read more

I was not impressed with this supermarket at all. A very busy Saturday and to many people stocking the shelves in the middle of the day. 30 min wait to check out. And the layout is a bit of a mess people coming in to the store are in the way of the people looking to leave. Overall a terrible design and terrible service. I was very impressed by how quickly and how pleasantly the staff for the tea department helped me. I asked the gentleman to check to see if they had Salada Tea Decaf, and he immediately did and left two boxies at the courtesy booth for me. Thank you. the thing that keeps you going back here are prices, which leads to overcrowding and not actually having everything you want.... case in point, 2 attempts in the last 3 days to get their "3.99 per pound lobster" - sold out every day, makes me think they don't actually have any lobster... besides that, we do go here for anything prepackaged, though their frozen food occasionally isn't stored correctly and comes out bad I avoid their produce and meat, I don't trust it.... and nearly every time I go there, I get mild to moderate anxiety, which I don't experience anywhere else (except IKEA, but please don't bring that up), just too many people too much going on, chaos is not my forte... so yes, prices keep me going back, but there are limits to this place (and try finding a parking spot when its busy) read more

In my experience in the grocery shopping wold very rarely do you find a combination of great service and abundance of product. Usually great service comes at a price point that is higher than the industry average. I keep coming back because of the prices, but this store makes me weep. I regularly see packaged produce with obvious mold (strawberries and cherry tomatoes, I'm looking at you, among others). I make sure to check for mold before buying anything, and yet I still sometimes end up surprised when I come home and the next day find a big old rotten, moldy fruit in the middle of my brand new package of produce. Yogurts being sold past the expiration date? Check. Finally, this week I grabbed a box of Frosted Mini-Wheats, figuring the surely the recall had been in place long enough and publicized well enough for Market Basket to have taken recalled cereal off the shelves. Got home, checked the box with the online recall notice, and sure enough the box I bought had been recalled. I'm from Wilmington NC and have had occasion to shop at the Market Basket, while visiting my sister in Danvers. The store is fantastic. The ethnic items, especially the cheeses and meats, are great. The deli and bakery can't be beat. The store does tend to get crowded and with good reason. I wish there was such a store could be found in NC. read more

i thought this market basket was bad in terms of overcrowding but then i went to the one in salem. the sushi guys are SUPER NICE and will make you something super fresh if you ask. the premade stuff is always very fresh and is really good for supermarket sushi. you absolutely cannot beat the prices. you save SO MUCH compared to shaw's or stop and shop. go at like 7:30 on a saturday night to avoid crowds and/or go drunk and you'll be f-i-n-e. p.s. i don't think you should go drunk. you don't want to run your cart into any of the dummies that have no regard for others and take up the whole aisle. well, maybe you do. read more

Despite the fact that I stopped in on a night before a Nor' Easter, I was pretty happy about the experience. Usually I do my food shopping at the MB in Salem because it's just a city away, but I had just gotten out of a movie and needed desperately to cook dinner and fill my shelves a tad. The set-up is really similar to Salem only this location had a way nicer bakery and deli section. The customers were not as rude and it didn't feel as crowded or hostile as Salem. This is one of the busiest and craziest Market Basket . A very diverse crowd and many ethnic products . It is Not the cleanest environment here it would be nice to see some better housekeeping here and hand sanitizer with the high volume traffic and food all in the same spot . My wife and I have been shopping here for several years, about 5 years ago they moved acorss the plaza into this new store it is much cleaner and nicer. I like shopping here for the great prices on many items especially sale items but the place is extremely busy on weekends and after 5pm during the weekday. Avoid those times and you will be fine. The other issue I have here is the strange smell the permeates through the place. I would also not buy any seafood from here since I also noticed a foul rotten fish smell when I was walking by the seafood counter. I never thought I'd say I "loved" a supermarket, but I do love this Market Basket. I really do. They have, by far, *the* lowest prices. Sweet onions 89¢/lb vs $1.29 at Shaw's. Heinz ketchup $1.50, exact same bottle at Stop & Shop $2.29 (and these are regular prices, not sale prices). They have a *great* selection of cuts of meat, not just the lame boneless, skinless chicken breasts and ground beef that other markets do. Produce section is *great*, very fresh and lots of unusual veggies. Well-stocked ethnic foods (buy your spices here!). We save a ton of money and have never not found what we were looking for. It's clean, wide aisles, the prepared foods are tasty and affordable, bakery makes great cannoli, sushi is *excellent* (really!), and the staff is quite pleasant. There are no stupid "coupon cards", the prices are the prices. I am not alone in my enthusiasm for Market Basket, and therefore it can be crowded. Try to go at off-peak times (during the week between 8 and 9 PM and you'll be in and out with no lines). I do wish they were open later. read more

I'm not from the area and wasn't familiar with Market Basket. I stopped in while waiting on my car at the nearby shop. I asked where to get coffee and a staff member told me it was free and escorted me there. He realized I was stressed and got me cookies, too. Let me start by saying I love Market Basket (especially the Endicott St., Danvers site) and would not shop anywhere else. Their coupon policy, however, is most disappointing. Within the past 4 months or so I have not been allowed use coupons I had printed from an on line site - reason being was the cashier/front end manager could not verify they were originals. They were, and I certainly can understand their reluctance to accept these types of coupons. Tonight I was told I couldn't use a manufacturers coupon from the Sunday flyer. Reason: the very bottom right hand corner where the date was, was torn. You could clearly see the "11" all except for the very bottom part of the outside "1" . In this economy we are always being encouraged to use coupons to save money where we can. Look at the ones that arrive in the Sunday papers, and then there are the on line sites. Does anyone know why Market Basket has become so difficult regarding coupon use? read more

Market Basket continues to drop brands that I like. They are constantly changing brands which is not too good for someone who likes certain brands. They carry very little Purdue Chicken - and their store brand is gross. Never cleaned properly, bloody and bones - ugh!. I bought their store brand cream (in error) and it went bad 2 weeks before the sell by date. They are better than the competition but they do not enhance the food shopping experience for this shopper. read more

I won't shop anywhere else and Shaws & Stop & Shop are closer. The prices can't be beat and there's plenty of parking. What I do hate about this place is that the employees stock the shelves on what seems to be the busiest days. Loads of customers in the aisles trying to squeeze by each other AND huge over stocked carts of stuff to be stocked... and those are also blocking items people want to buy. Get rid of the rude teenagers you have working there who constantly got their ipods blasting in their ears. And it wouldn't hurt to have some employees learn some manners, like saying 'excuse me' when they're pulling those overflowing wagons of stock through the place. Can't tell you how many times I had one of them sneak up on me and squish my toes. And for the love of God, the stuff on the top shelves, STOP piling those items up so high! I need just one box and I have to make sure the other 5 that are piled on top of each other don't fall on my head. The bathrooms could use a clean up. BIG TIME! The shelf outside the bathrooms with clearance items, yea,, no one is going to buy the outdated crap just because you lowered the price. It looks like a shelf at a food pantry. Other than that I do like this store. But the only thing that keeps me coming back are the prices. The employees need a lot of work. Especially the horrible baggers that put my bread in the same bag as the meat or soda. Not to be rude, but the 3 people with down syndrome who bag there, it IS OK to teach them how to bag properly. I'm a small woman, please stop putting 5 bottles of soda in one friggin bag.. especially cause your bags got cheaper. A loaf of bread would rip through them now. End of my rant. read more

Min H I may have sent it the wrong way but in response to your complaint I'm sorry about your treatment but next time contact the company who made the product directly. Their number is usually located on their packaging or even the individual bottles/cans. Once you call you can let them know the situation and they will compensate you for the issue and your troubles. Usually it's in the form of a coupon for a free 12 pack of the same or similar product. Market Basket is probably unable as a company to take back anything that was already 90% used. I think the best they could've done was offer you a individual can or bottle of the product but to replace the whole pack is asking a lot of them when it isn't their fault that the packaging was not done correctly by the manufacture. It's not so much about standing by their product, I am sure that it was younger people or someone unsure of what to do in a situation where they're asked to be refunding something that was already used almost in full. read more

Cheap, cheap supermarket. The store is still pretty new, and has a pretty good prepared foods area. Yes, the isles are somtimes crowded and you usually have to wait in line, but you save A TON of money compared to Stop & Shop and Shaw's. Seriously, at least 20% cheaper than the competitors. Minus 1 star for the bakery. A lot of the stuff (like donuts and muffins) from the bakery are frozen, so stay away from them. read more
