The Sea Lion Show at West Ed always leaves me conflicted. It's a cute show and the animals are really well trained but I still don't agree with it. It's a great thing to take kids to. They always love it. I think it's pretty inexpensive to actually go to the show (you can see the show by not actually paying and going in to watch it). West Ed got rid of the dolphins that used to inhabit the sea lion territory because one of them died. It's just not a healthy environment for animals to be in captivity, that is). But if you like animal shows, this one will probably float your boat.

Extremely small aquarium area in W Ed that I was somewhat surprised how actually small it was. Sure you can pet a shark (that looks like it's sleeping or about to die) and they do have a few other aquariums but for the price it's very cramped and a bit of a dissapointment. We had admission with the Sea-lion show. The Sea lion show was great, entertaining and educational. It is a bit sad that they have them in a shopping mall but I don't think eating fish all day and performing tricks is such a bad life. There was also a penguin demonstration that was a bit underwhelming but that's fine. Both were enjoyed quite a bit by my six year old daughter. If you are buying admission for just the Sea life caverns I'd say don't waste your money. With both the sea lion show and penguin show it's a bit more palatable. Don't come with massive expectations as you will be let down in a big way.

Super cute, a penguin and 3 different sea lions for the show. They were super trainee and fun to watch

Shy the animal care specialist introduced us to the shark exhibit. She said we can pet them. The shark tanks are so awesome.

We were pleasantly surprised with our experience. Got to see Lucy the elephant up close and personal when she went for a walk. It was amazing, we were literally just a few feet from her when she walked by. That's an experience I won't soon forget. We got to chat with one of the keepers and it was very interesting to hear about some of the behaviours of the meerkats. The staff were wonderful, their love and care for the animals was evident and their passionate about animals in general, it was lovely to see. We got some ice cream at one of the stores, my daughter loved the treat. The only complaint we had, and I can't really call it a complaint because I understand why, was that all the birds were missing from the cages because of an avian flu outbreak. My mom was sad as she loves the owls and birds of prey. But otherwise it was an amazing day.

The only downfall is if you want to back-track to see something again or go grab a beer at the Sandwich & Sons, you have to go against the flow of people which is not too great. They do offer craft beer and canned cocktails now!!! This was exciting for me but when we got there, I didn't know that the ONLY place you can buy beer is at Sandwich & Sons which is actually "outside" the gate of the zoo in the reception area. So I had to back track to go grab our drinks. It would be great if they could serve this at every food / drink area at the zoo. We were able to see a lot of animals, and we got a glimpse of Lucy the Elephant too! So special to have her here and to be able to see her. My kids LOVE the owls and birds area however there are a lot of wasps in that area too so beware and be careful. Overall, it was a great visit and nice to see this place constantly improving. No rides this time either due to Covid but hope they bring those back soon too!

Boy have I had some adventures here! From falling down an escalator as a tot to riding the Mindbender roller coaster back when that was still a thing, showing off the amusement park to university/college students visiting our city from elsewhere or playing laser tag with the band Green Day when they came to town for Edge Fest or most recently visiting to play DDR with my partner or bringing our toddler here to ride rides... Galaxyland is a thing. It can be a place of joy or a place of sorrows... it can certainly be an expensive visit or an inexpensive one depending on how you do it, but it can clearly be a lot of fun! When I was a kid I ADORED The children's play park area. My toddler loved the ball pit when we visited as a family. The rides are a mixed bag. Currently most are themed around Hasbro properties and some aren't really suitable for adults who are exceedingly tall though the height restrictions for children are clearly noted. I have a lot of fond memories here but note that it can be really noisy and crowded so plan accordingly. It is great that in a winter city like Edmonton indoor amusement areas like this one exist, clearly!

I'm terrified of roller coasters because of the metal hitting the rails and the g-forces but I wanted to have fun. And after visiting here I think I got over that and am looking forward to amusement parks. Tip: if you are staying at the Fantasyland hotel, you can buy passes for more than half the cost. It even includes access to attractions outside the amusement park including mini golf, maze, indoor beach, aquarium, ice rink and much more. We bought the 2-day pass and it paid for itself the first day

Load up a bunch, head to the till and it doesn't ring up on sale. Cashier calls a floor manager to check the shelf, who then checks with the store manager and apparently this was a Black Friday promo that had expired. Even with their mistake of the signage being left up they wouldn't honour the discount out of goodwill. Not even a few pieces. According to the floor manager they don't take part in the Code of Conduct, whatever that means. However if the company can afford to put it on sale for a price, they can afford to honour the sale when the employees haven't removed the signage a few days after the expiration. Incredibly disappointed with the service and likely won't be back.

They also don't come individually wrapped - they wrap them in paper towel and put them in a bag for you. This means they might get freezer burn or stuck together if you don't use them fast enough. So my suggestion is to only buy like 4 at a time instead of stocking up. I honestly think I will keep coming here for worms, but I'll stick to buying my rats elsewhere just for the price alone. You gotta come on Tues/Thurs to get the new worms! If you come on a Monday the selection isn't good and you might be buying 50 but then find that half are dead. So definitely try and come in for the fresh shipment. Sometimes I bring my babygirl Smaug (Bearded Dragon) here and the staff is so nice to here. They love seeing her and she likes to be out and about socializing with all the humans. I like that you can bring your animals here - even the reptiles. I come here just for the staff alone, they're always friendly and helpful. I feel like I get good service here. I also bought my ginger cat, Churchill, here! We saw him in the window a year ago and had to take him home with us! I can't believe that was almost two years ago now! Time flies!

I found myself succumbing to the urge to cuddle with some furry little animal and so on a whim, entered Petland. I was able to make friends with an adorable hedgehog and a cute and squeaky guinea pig. (I had no idea that guinea pigs actually do this oink-whistle thing!!) Exploring options to find a pet companion for my rabbit, I was happy to find the employees at Petland genuinely interested in the best solution for both my home, my rabbit and the potential new pet. I left the store on my first visit with a few brochures on guinea pigs and hedgehogs trying to distinguish which might be better suited for our family. On the second visit (another of many...it's right by a grocery store!! How can I resist going in there and browsing cuteness?!), I fell in love with a little black rascal of a rabbit who I thought would be the perfect friend for my rabbit and not just because they are the same color - he just had some spunky characteristics that I liked. I was allowed to hold him, pet him and when I inquired as to how I would go about with the introduction to my rabbit (for territorial reasons) I was informed they had a neutral room just for that. So, we returned the next day with our little rabbit Gretchen, excited to have her meet this potential new roomie and after much awkwardness on my part watching her unexpectedly hump the snot out of this poor rabbit's face, back, haunch -- all of it! -- I realized maybe this little guy wasn't a guy since he was failing miserably at establishing any dominance. Sadly confirming it was a female, (not ideal for our desired pet gender schematic), we ended up deciding not to take the rabbit. I found the staff were still more than courteous despite the time they spent helping us and at the end of their shifts. (we came in after 8:30 both times and they close at 9pm) A special shout out to the Store Manager, Kaelen Humphreys, who was very patient throughout the whole decision-making process. We will definitely be returning to this location for other pet related items such as fish supplies, fish tank stuff, fish, and probably rabbit chew toys, etc. Also, I noticed all the animal areas, every time I have visited the store, are exceptionally clean and the animals don't look depressed or anything. I think they get a lot of love from the staff which is nice to know.

Best thing to do is purchase your passes online before you go because you'll save a little bit of money that way. If you sign up for their emails you'll also get a chance to purchase 2 for 1 passes or multiple entry discounted passes. I purchased 2 family passes for a discounted price of 25% off. At the grounds themselves they have a farmers market with local goodies, a mini farm where you can feed the animals, potato guns, wagons to pull the kids in, lots of picnic benches for having lunch (which you can bring yourself btw). Depending on the time of season you go, they also have a sunflower field for awesome pictures, and you can purchase sunflower stems to take home. They also have a pumpkin patch in the fall for great photo ops and pumpkins for purchase too. On top of all that x there are games and jumping pillows for the kids and just soooooo much fun. The maze itself changes every year so it's always something new when you come. It takes about 1.5 hours to complete so be ready with your walking shoes or wagons. Overall this is a super fun family friendly activity to enjoy and I highly recommend checking this place out if you haven't been before.
