If you get there on time, there is usually a space or two available for parking. Live band. The sermons are bible-based and succinct. They also have several small groups available throughout the week and weekend for those who want to review the sermons with other church members.

Are…read moreyou looking for a place you can go to learn more, and feel comfortable asking basic questions? Hard questions? Answer: Please come to Hillside church. The philosophy of Hillside is that all are welcome. No matter where you are on your faith or even if you're a nonbeliever, you are welcome at this church. It is free and open to all those who come through it's doors. This is a place where you can ask the hard questions or the ones you felt perhaps embarrassed to ask. If it's not for you then okay, no worries. We just want to make sure you ghve a welcoming, safe place to explore. The church leadership is top notch. The pastor, Steve Pridemore, is a gifted orator and has insightful sermons. After every sermon, I am always fulfilled and almost always learn something new. The congregation is friendly and diverse. Also noteworthy is that there are about 300+ members which probably makes it one of the largest churches in Marin and certainly Southern Marin. It's also an active church with tons of different ways to get individuals and families involved. The church has an annual trip to a Mexican orphanage that the church has supported for several years. The church has several active small groups that enable the congregation to, as the name implies, focus on topics and conversations among smaller groups of people. This can be huge when somebody is trying to become more actively involved and engaged with the church community and create deeper relationships with the other individuals in the church. Hillside also organizes several retreats throughout the year and participates in the annual leadership Summit. I've personally been to the leadership summit and one of the men's retreats and can attest to how awesome both of these things are. There are also plenty of opportunities to volunteer within the church for the two Sunday services. Volunteer opportunities include ushering, working in one of the many childcare rooms, playing an instrument or singing in the band, working the projector, working with the sound system, getting the coffee ready and all the treats before the congregation shows. I am likely missing several responsibilities here, but you get the point. The church building is made up of two buildings. Both of the buildings, the parking lot area, the playground, and the general landscaping are all nice and tidy. So many churches I've seen have gone failed to keep their church and the surrounding grounds nice and tidy, but hillside has not. There are two buildings to Hillside - the uppermost main building and the lower Annex building. If you were visiting for the first time, be sure to go to the uppermost main building. It's pretty obvious, but just want to be sure you know which one to go to. The doors are all wide-open Sunday mornings and you can pretty easily tell where to go. Still curious? Please message me on Yelp and would be happy to give you more information or even meet you before one of the sermons. See you there.

This place has great music, intelligent messages, and a sincere congregation. I've heard it described as high-tech because of the many multimedia presentations they have. They even have a podcast! One of the most important things that I like about this church is their commitment to the community and the way they encourage the members to be active in their faith. It's called "The Big Idea." The only reason I didn't give it five stars is probably my own fault. I sometimes have trouble connecting with people from different demographics but there have been a number of people who have welcomed me and made me feel comfortable like Dieter, Valerie, Greg, Daniel, and Stacy. I could write a very long review but it might end up sounding like a sermon. I do encourage anyone to either attend, listen to the podcast, or check out the website. Don't worry about anyone trying to force anything down your throat. That's a common misconception that scares people from going to church. There is a very loving atmosphere here. If you were ever curious about Christianity, check this place out and look for me. I'm the dude that rides a motorcycle to church.

They have an awesome and very vibrant children and youth ministry. The music team plays mostly contemporary music with an occasional hymn here and there. Pastor Matt is very passionate and sincere in proclaiming God's Word. His preaching is doctrinally sound, practical, and challenges you in a good way. The people here are down to earth and very friendly. Easy to find, lots of parking, and free refreshments, what else could you want?

I went home to my wife, who was on bed rest at the time, and told her "I think I've found our church"! She started attending with me after having our twin boys and she agreed! In a time where Christians are often times being labeled as fake or hypocritical, Open Door goes the extra mile to be genuine and real to those who attend. To summarize Open Door's theology, I would say they are conservative. I would call Open Door Pentecostal light. You won't see anyone rolling in the isles but some folks do raise their hands in praise and The Holy Spirit is talked about from the front. Nothing shocking really, unless you are used to extremely conservative worship. Worship style is probably first or second quality in the county and very current. This is coming from a person who makes it my job to visit churches as a part of my job. The size of the congregation is average in Marin, around 100 on a given Sunday. Congregates are a little more working class than most churches in Marin but that doesn't mean everyone's a contractor. Children's ministry is smaller than some of the bigger churches but is super intimate so it's easy to know the people your kids are interacting with. The building is the San Rafael Community Center, so it's a bit dated but totally functional. Hope that all helps! Please ask questions if you need perspective

Worship service is held on the second floor of Mill Valley Community Center (and not the one below, which I hear is an equally awesome but different church and service). There is ample parking. Once you enter the building, turn right to find stairs leading up to the second floor. A small but tight group of members, this seems to be a good option for those seeking the word in a more intimate, personal setting than some of the larger churches throughout the Bay area. Communion and potluck is provided on the first Sunday of each month, but there is no burden or expectation to stay once the service is over. Some come early and help set up while others join half-way through the sermon, giving the impression that you are literally welcome any time. Most attractive is that the group consists of singles, couples and married people of all ages and different backgrounds. Pastor Seth is a local, born and raised who ventured to other areas of the US for college and seems to be well-connected with the community. He is a young, married couple who will be expanding their family this October. This may be an ideal environment for others who are newly married and growing their families... as well as those seeking suggestions for local eats that are family friendly or just good all around, which he seems to be quite knowledgeable about.
