Terrible service. Did not want to serve us on the terrace because we are 6 persons. Hope they reset their customer centricity.

We had a fun evening out at Madrid's La Coquette Blues Bar…read more Got there at around 7:30 pm - doors open at 8, and a line forms outside the relatively small place, so that timing was perfect. Settled into the very cool cavern-like subterranean space with rough stone walls, vintage blues show posters and a terrific Chicago blues soundtrack. A waiter who spoke English took drink orders, and everybody got bowls of sunflower seeds in the shell. It got crowded, but not ridiculously so, because they limit admission, letting a few new people in when others leave. They feature a rotating roster of blues bands who each do a three-night run. Check out their web site (it's their Facebook page) for who's playing. As usual when I see a music listing somewhere, I looked the group up on YouTube, to check out what they actually sound like. The combo we caught - The Maria Avilas Quartet - came on at 9 pm. It was a good-time Chicago-style blues band with guitar, standup bass, drums and a female singer, and we stayed for most of the second set as well. The crowd was really upbeat and friendly, and the beer was cold. Later in the evening, the waiter offered selected people (lucky us!) free mini-shots. Bottom line: we really enjoyed the place, and highly recommend it for a fun evening out.

Good, divey Blues Bar (live band) we found and jumped into after dinner. Got there around 11'ish…read more Had some beers, drinks, and listened to the live Blues Band which was pretty good. Good selection of beers and liquor... the bartender makes a very good Mojito (almost every table had one). Generous pours on all drinks. Decent beer selection. Seating is a little tight but it's not a big place. Looks like an old bomb shelter (cool look).

Of the 3 Flamenco shows we've seen in Madrid, the Tablao Flamenco Villa Rosa was our favorite…read more Starting with the decor---this place is stunning! There are ceramic murals covering the walls, and ornately carved ceilings and arches. The room is quite large, the biggest venue I've been too. I don't think there would be a terrible seat in the room, although if it was very crowded, and you were in the back, it wouldn't be as enjoyable. It would pay to make reservations early. The manager at our guest house made our reservations, and we got an excellent table, right at the corner of the stage. We just got the 1 drink that is included in the ticket price. I've noticed in some reviews that people are often not happy with the food at flamenco venues. I don't think food should be the main reason to go to a flamenco show. Some people might enjoy this, but I have never had dinner with the show for that reason. There are so many other great places to eat in Madrid, before or after. I think it is much more enjoyable to give your full attention to the performers on stage, and to be caught up in the passion and enthusiasm. I would suggest skipping dinner here, having a drink or two, and enjoying the entertainment. We thought this show and the performers were fantastic. Every place does things a little differently. One place had no male dancers, another had one male dancer, and Villa Rosa had two. I think they were my favorite part of the show! And it didn't hurt that they were both very attractive---one looked a bit like Robert Downey Jr. And they were excellent dancers, as was the female dancer. The singer and guitar player were quite talented as well. The show moved along at a good pace, not really slowing down, letting each performer show their skill, and building to a lovely and satisfying conclusion. Please don't let the fact that you're not permitted to take pictures detract from your enjoyment of the show. There are many places that don't allow this, and it is distracting to the performers. Also, it's a shame that many people are concentrating so hard on their phones and getting a picture that they are not in the moment. And that is what it is all about---just relaxing and surrendering to the beauty and passion that is flamenco. You will experience a night to remember.

I'm not sure why the listing shows up as Villa Rosa, but I believe this is for the Tablao Flamenco…read more1911, which is supposed to the oldest Tablao. We wanted non touristy place but then realized most flamenco tablaos are just going to be tourists anyway. Booking was easy online, and each ticket has a free drink (wine or cava or soda). We added the tapas for 2 for €38, which had a tortilla, iberico, olives, sausage, and cheese. In the end, we were pretty full from a late lunch and had a dinner after, so we didn't really need the food for the one hour show. We got the vip section tickets in the very front, but I think the second row is better. The first row is so close that you have to look up on stage, and the dust from the stage is blown at you when they dance. The live music was good, and the dancers were indeed really talented. The show was just the right length at 60 minutes. I definitely recommend the 6pm show so that you can head to dinner after!
