The Coconut Creek's Womens club has craft vendors selling a variety of items for holiday gift giving, police outreach, bounce houses, crafts, and children's activities, entertainment on the stage, photo opportunities, and food trucks. At night they had a huge blow up screen showing the FSU versus Notre Dame football game. Parking is always a pain when Coconut Creek holds a festival here and there are 3 good sized parking lots. They generally have a shuttle bus running from Monarch High School but I came later in the evening and they let me park on site. If you live in the surrounding Winston Park neighborhood you really luck out by being able to walk over. This festival is a great gathering point for the community of Coconut Creek. I don't think it's one of those type of events that draws a lot of people from outside of the community. The real fun of this event is that if you live here you are likely to bump into people you know so you can catch up with them. My friend in Parks and Recreation plans the events for the city so it was fun to run into her. I also saw some of my students who attend my school and other people I haven't seen in a while. This festival has a great hometown feel that reminds me why I love living in Coconut Creek so much.

It began at 2 Pm and ended just after 800 with the fireworks show . Many vendors and tables to visit and purchase from locally. I did notice they decided to charge $20 for non residents for the rides to get a wristband and free for residents this year. There was a drama theatre show and some others which I missed. It did rain at one point and they had to clear the field because of the lightning alarms that went off. I was actually about to leave anyway for the day and return later in the evening for the "Hot Hits" band and fireworks show from Zambelli which is always amazing. They situated the tent to eat food and sit down towards the back so not in the middle of everything which was much better. I also noticed a fenced off area from the main stage which seemed weird since it was separated from each side so not many were dancing as it was in the years past and the rain in between put a little damper on it too. Something new this year was a cooking demonstration from the Chef and owner of the restaurant Setto Mezza showing how to make fresh mozzarella. There was a $5 admission for that tent which also included a sample too which was delicious The shuttle bus from casino was available as usual, if not you had to park in the neighborhood because closer parking is for vendors and officials . The regular carnival food was available to purchase throughout the day . Many vendors to visit during the day with some goodies too.

This year residents get to ride for free, non residents pay a $20 entrance fee if they want to go on the rides. The rainy weather put a pause on the events and rides but once it finish the show went on. The fireworks got cut 5 mins short due to the cloudy conditions and limited view of the lights. My family…read morefoundation.org had many auction items and a 50/50 to benefit families whose children are strickend by cancer. The band Reaxtion played old school songs and some new pop music, as well, allowing for many people to dance. There were many vendors with a variety of items to purchase. You could also find food trucks with Italian food and some other dishes to wet your palate . They had some blow up bounce type activities for kids to enjoy and play inside. There was also a game at no costs to play giving out a ball as a prize to each winner. At the end there was a trophy for best Italian food since it's meatball day ... A nice evening with many things for all ages to do.

Parking is limited at the Sportsplex but you can park in the warehouses next door and across the street. If you don't want to wait in long lines come early. Traffic was already backing up for the festival by 3:45. What was especially nice this year was the Sportsplex has a large new covered field with Astro Turf. They set up the stage with a country cover band, tables and chairs, and bleachers in this area. Other attractions at the festival included a few carnival rides, bounce house, haunted house, food trucks, pony rides, petting zoo, craft vendors. and contests for costumes, pumpkin carving, and scarecrow building. I spent the evening hanging out with my friend. We caught some of the concert and ate at the Pork O' Rican Food Truck and had Italian Ices. We shopped at the tents and I bought a light up Halloween decoration. We waited in line forever for the haunted house and laughed our heads off. Throughout the night I saw a lot of people I knew and many of the kids who go to my school. So fun to see everyone in costumes. At the end of the night the town officials announced that Margate is going to host the Broward County Fair this year. Awesome news and more great times to look forward to.

From the cosplay, the reenactments, the food, people and the general atmosphere; it's a day spent getting lost in a mystical world. This year the fair was overran with The Pirates of Tortuga Bay! I've never seen so many pirates at one time but I guess we all had the same idea! In my opinion, it gets better with new sections added yearly. In true South Florida fashion, it poured and poured during our bar crawl. But nothing stops the crawl! We tracked on with cheers from the crowd under tents. It was an experience and so much fun! This year, my favorite bite was the dragon egg. A boiled egg cushioned by seasoned mashed potatoes and fried with a spicy crunchy breading. With ketchup and hot sauce, it tasted similar to an "egg ball" from Guyana. The beer wasn't bad either..lol Already planning my costume for next year! Huzzah!

I saw a tattoo artist for kids. A photo op area were there was a car. Many items to raffle off, but again I was a bit late. I did see you needs zelle to get the raffle which I also do not use. Maybe next year can catch the events inside that will protray Hispanic heritage month .

Thankfully the rain held off until late afternoon. This years theme was Mexico. The festival opened at 10 AM with a parade of nations. Entertainment was held at the outdoor bandshell and included a mariachi band performance and the Folklorico Dancers. Both the musicians and dancers were very talented. Kids could make sugar skull masks, glitter maracas, and a cactus paper craft. There was also a scavenger hunt, storytelling, and a magic show for them. Many kids were also playing on the playground and at the splash pad behind the community center. Adults enjoyed the art show and hand made items for sale in the auditorium. There were a couple of food trucks and a tent selling Mexican food, drinks, and desserts. Inside the lobby was a Mexico history display. This was the 9th year of the festival and it has a free admission. This is just one of the many nice free events Coconut Creek puts on for residents throughout the year. Parks and Recreation does a great job with their family friendly events making it just one of the many reasons I love living here.

The Margate Winter Festival was supposed to be last Friday night but due to a wicked storm it was…read morecancelled and rescheduled for tonight on Margate Boulevard from 6 to 10 PM. Admission and festival parking is free. Downtown Margate is decorated with holiday lights and the town Christmas tree. The road was closed to cars and parking was available on the nearby field. The weather was a perfect 63 degrees. Festival highlights included pictures with Santa, bounce houses for the kids, real snow to play in, sledding, a fake snow fall, arts and crafts, vendors for last minute holiday shopping, live music, and food truck and food tents. I appreciate that Margate decided to reschedule this event. So many events were cancelled last weekend and not rescheduled like the Winterfest Boat Parade. Even though it was a week night there was still a great turn out for this wonderful family friendly event.

This was the 19th annual one, however, it is the last one they are hosting. A nice day to walk around and view the artist, plants, food, and speciality vendors with tents and tables to display their merchandise The pencil art was creative and something I have never seen before. I enjoyed listening and watching the bands and entertainment. There had different entertainment scheduled the following day. The local honey is always good to purchase. I also bought kettle corn since I missed it at the fair . There were food at tents and trucks to purchase. Parking was tough since can't park by the plaza but some people still parked there including me and walked down to the festival. I noticed others parked across street too. There was a trolley to take by City hall . The bathrooms were in restaurants nearby to use. All in all, it was a nice festival and sorry it will be the last.

Cancelled in 2020 and 2021, the Coral Springs Festival of the Art was back this past weekend in a…read morebig way to celebrate it's 17th year of bringing culture to the Coral Springs community. Coordinated by Shirley Richards who founded the event in 2005 and a 30-member executive committee, it is held in the parking lot of The Walk shopping plaza on University Drive. Since its inception, the event has grown to 30,000 visitors, 200 volunteers, and 175 artists and crafters. It is so large it takes up two streets. Since the parking at the shopping center is closed, festival goers are urged to park at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts, located at 2855 Coral Springs Drive, and the City Hall Garage, located at 9500 W. Sample Road. The festival is held from 10 AM until 5PM. There is food from tents as well as the restaurants in the shopping plaza. There are two stages set up on each end with one featuring performances by Irish, Polynesian, and Peruvian acts, while the music stage held performances by jazz and country music artists, and a tribute to Tina Turner. Some of the many tents set up in the street held works by by fine artists for sale while others were vendors selling accessories, clothes, plants, and food. There was a great variety of things for people to purchase. This was my first year attending the festival and I didn't realize how big it had gotten. I will definitely come earlier next year to see more of the entertainment. I love that this festival is held right in my backyard. This is a great event for families and it is very dog friendly too!

Sidewalks are out because of a decorative paver sidewalk going in. There's plenty of vendors with something for everyone. Artwork, jewelry, yard art and other craft and gift ideas. All of the artists are in their booths and most are happy to tell you about their craft or handmade works. Don't forget to pay the meters. You can either use the pay by phone app or use one of the nearby meter stations. I got 2hrs for $1.05, not bad. Bring a hat and stay hydrated, it's hot out there folks. Tip for the day- be careful walking, there are sidewalks out, loose pavers and deep crevices along the street, one of which my foot found it's way into and was cut badly, to the point of needing paramedics...
