This is one of the worst hotels we have stayed for our Maritime tour. If I could give 0 stars for…read morethis place, I would have. We were welcome by Donna (staff) and there's nothing welcoming about it. She hurriedly talks about the hotel info but it's more of a mundane task for her instead of being an enjoyable part of her job. Downsides: Accommodation -We were placed in a room that is dated, dingy and smells moldy/musty. -Floors have several stains in them (see pic) and the carpeted floors were uneven and makes squeaking/creaking noises when you walk on it. -We were informed that we have a waterfront view which is partly true. When you're in the lower level rooms, your view will be obstructed by trees /shrubs so it is very unlikely you will see a full view of the Bras d'Or Lake. -Outlet plugs were limited and situated in very hard to reach places. If you didn't bring a power bank, your electronic devices will be nowhere close to you. -Washroom is very small and taking a shower is very unpleasant since it's slower to drain and basically you're standing in water. Dining -Place is very remote, not a lot of places to dine and no shops close by. It will take you more than 20 mins to walk to the nearest restaurant and 5 to 10 mins by car. -That left you with no choice but to dine in their restaurant called McCurdy Dining Room that has limited choice of menus. Food is mediocre and very expensive for a rural place. Seafood chowder is watered down, not a lot of seafood in it and a little bit spicy. Their Seafood Pasta is bland and has more noodles than sauce/seafood. Same goes with their Chicken Parmesan Pasta. You also have to wait for a long time for your food as they're understaff and trying to accommodate more customers that they can handle. -Breakfast was included when we booked our room. It's a buffet style and you get the basic breakfast of eggs, sausage, toast, etc. Upside: Nothing good about this hotel and wouldn't even recommend this to my worst enemy!

We headed to the eastern coast of the Canada for the first time ever this summer…read more It was a fabulous trip, and a highlight of it was visiting Cape Breton and Baddeck. We were lucky enough to stay at the Silver Dart Lodge in Cape Breton. What a wonderful location. Overlooking the the lake, and each room has a small patio and chairs to sit and enjoy the views. The folks at this lodge were so friendly and helpful as well. East coast friendliness is definitely evident here! :) Beds were comfy and rooms were well appointed. Separate sink area from the shower/toilet room. Ample closet space. 2 comfy chairs to watch a flat panel tv and free wifi. This hotel also has a great dining room and is not far from downtown Baddeck and other attractions like the Alexander Graham Bell museum.

There was a ton of us piling into this resort for the weekend of the 30th-1st and although there was slight disorganization in terms of attempting to book, we were in the end more than accommodated. The assistant manager running this resort does not seem to sleep; she fills all roles, at all times of day and night. Gorgeous cottages facing Margaree harbour as well with adirondack chairs facing the ocean. Absolutely picturesque. My absolute favorite part about this resort (and the thing that will get me back) was that we were not nickle and dimed. 11 of us easily fit into 2 cottages and there was never a mention of the typical: Extra $30/person/night etc etc. Ie- two nights in these cottages worked out to $70/person! A great place to head for a couples weekend what with the close proximity to beach, golf and spa. Love this place! By the way, note the lobster pound. Lobster was so fresh that the fisherman were coming in to refill the tank almost as fast as we were ordering!

There are only a couple of things I would change: (1) the dinners are a little pricey for what you get in comparison to other places in Nova Scotia; and (2) the cottages do not have an oven in the kitchen.

The air-conditioning was effective but too noisy to sleep with it on. When I requested a fan, I believe Barb & Larry (the owners) went and bought one for us! That fact is VERY impressive and it provided enough air circulation for us to sleep for 11 hours one night. The suite had a large sofa, separate table and chairs, a very comfortable king bed, great linen, satellite TV and an electric effect fire (very naff). The bathroom had a jacuzzi tub (noisy) and was an all in one plastic affair, spotlessly clean, but I do dislike them (my little foible) as they look so cheap. The 'smellies' on offer were good and there were lots of towels. The owners Barb & Larry could not be more personable & helpful. Russ their manager was a true professional and a great asset to the business. He meets and greets in a charming and friendly but not intrusive way. Their restaurant, where we had dinner on 3 nights, is EXCELLENT!!!!! If you book their Romance package it is even better value, with a simple selection of dishes, prepared well and executed with flair. The fish chowder gets a 10 out of 10! For a small inn to offer such a standard of food, let alone restaurant surroundings, is very unusual, and deserves as other reviewers have mentioned, to be highly recommended. I must also come clean and I say I co-own an award winning in located in Woodstock VT, so my standards are VERY high and are often not met. My suggestions for our room would be: 1) A small CD/radio system as we are not TV junkies...perhaps an all in one DVD/CD unit? 2) In the bedroom better reading lighting, the central lights are too bright and kill the atmosphere and the 2 free standing lights and bedside lights have too weak bulbs or cannot be angle directed to read by. 3) The bathrooms are functional, but do not match the quality of the bedroom or inn in general. This was I feel a missed opportunity. 4) With two such talented chefs why not make your own jam and marmalade for the breakfast service? The pre-packaged ones offered do look cheap compared to the table service and hand made pottery etc. 5) Perhaps some fresh flowers in the room..small thing but they would really keep up your high standards. 6) A wish not easy to execute...a real wood burning stove in your entrance lobby would complete the setting of the sweeping staircase. The smell and effect would really set off a great first impression. Had I built the inn a real fireplace and stone chimney would have been placed there, but to retro fit would be too expensive. The existing electric fire just doesn't do that trick.....and as mentioned we think they are really naff. So in summary my only dislike was the electric effect fire....and I can live with that!
