You need some steely resolve (and maybe some latex gloves) to shop here. BUT -- get over yourself long enough to do some diving through the store, and you can find some pretty amazing stuff. Occasionally if you look hard enough, you can find high-end shoes, designer label clothes, and salon-brand hair products. Not every trip to Marden's will yield diamonds instead of coal, but if you're the gamblin' type, it can sometimes pay off. The furniture section is something else, by the way. Ignore the appliances -- the refrigerators and shit are way overpriced for what they are here -- but the deals on furniture and home accessories cannot be beat. Man, I wish they delivered to California. Because we would have bought a whole new living room set complete with leather sectional last weekend for a fraction of even the most bargain-basement prices found out on the west coast. It smells funny in here....the floors are dirty....you might feel like you have fleas afterward....but Marden's has this strange pull that I cannot resist whenever I'm back home.

Decided to find a bargain at Marden's!

Stonington's Fabulous Furniture

Ten years ago, my wife and I sat in and fell in love with Ekorness Stressless chairs. The comfort,…read morefit (that's right, "fit".) and beauty of our fine leather chairs has punctuated our leisure for a decade. What great luck, then, that we found Stonington's Furniture in Brewer. Their personable and knowledgeable staff presented us with low-pressure options which fit our decor, and our bodies. I should mention here that I am six foot three, and weigh two hundred and forty-four pounds. My wife is half my size. The staff of Stonington's educated us, and fitted us to the proper size chairs which have become a necessary part of our daily comfort. Stressless furniture is so comfortable, well made, and beautiful, that we've since populated our home with three more stressless couches. Even the strongest of war-horses becomes a bit sway-back after being ridden hard, and in 2024, my chair developed a bit of a dip. Close examination showed that ten years of me had weakened one of the seat springs. We called Stonington's, and they immediately began to set things right. They assessed the chair, and ordered the necessary part from Norway. When the part arrived, they came to my house and picked up the chair in the morning. At two-thirty that afternoon, they called and asked if they could deliver the chair back to me that same day. Throughout this entire process, the people at Stonington's were patient, pleasant, and accommodating. The cost for all of this was $0. My newly refurbished chair is back on line, providing me now with stressless comfort and the sure certainty that my purchases from Stonington's include customer service that is both rare and dependable. "Thankyou" seems a meager response, but my future recommendations to friends will be heartfelt and exuberant. My loyalty to Stonington's has been well earned. Thank you.

Giving one star because they've completely abandoned their ability to provide customer service. I…read morepurchased a sectional about 2-3 months ago that costed $1,500. The issues started with the delivery. Their delivery driver had a pistol strapped to his waste, with 2 seperate clips - a bit excessive, especially when you're entering someone else's house or on their property. I understand you may be driving around with (somewhat) valuable furniture, but I've had plenty of deliveries brought inside with a whole truck outside of more valuable items. It's one thing to have it out of sight, as I think that's a company decision, but to have it exposed and enter a property is highly unprofessional and excessive. It made me feel extremely uncomfortable. Kudos to placing it inside, which your sales people acknowledged could get you shut down temporarily due to COVID. On to the next issue, they didn't even send me the right sectional, let alone the right color or orientation. At this point I called & they offered me $50 or a replacement. Offering the option to replace is the right thing to do, but I had just set it up and we almost had to take the door off just to get it in, or the driver could've just shot it - that may have worked better. Point is, I wasn't going through setting another on up, moving all of my furniture across my house, and disassembling the existing one - so I took the $50 because that's all they could offer on a $1,500 sectional that wasn't even what I paid for. Now, 2-3 months later, one of the sectional cushions is starting to seperate and needs restitching. I've called 4 times and have been given 3 different numbers, none of which have done anything. All they keep asking is whether or not I can bring the cushion in, which is sewn on to the backing. One of their "repair/warehouse" people, Tyler, has asked me to bring it in, which I stated wasn't possible, as it's going to require a lot more than removing the cushion. He then didn't bother to respond until I reached out again, which prompted him to tell me I'd have to bring it in - clearly not listening to anything I said. I should've been smarter when it came to purchasing from this store, as the general consensus is that they do a great job, until you run into an issue. I was supposedly given the owners number and the poor lady I spoke with has been harassed repeatedly with these complaints. Like I said, salespeople are amazing - because their check depends on it. Shape up and treat your customers with respect. SUCH a simple fix, but you're too cheap for it. Will never shop here again & will let everyone I know that's considering it not to.

I was sad to find they are allowing one of their vendors to sell a framed reproduction photograph of a KKK March from the 1920s. I understand when dealers are selling actual historic artifacts (I still think it's weird to profit off of racist histories, but I understand there are complex perspectives about archival value). This was not that - the back of the photograph showed that it was printed last year at Walmart, but it was being sold as a framed photo. It felt celebratory and exploitative, not historical or educational. When I asked the owners why they allowed that, they said it is illegal to prevent the dealer from selling the photo, and that it is "free speech." This is not true - antique malls are legally allowed to have guidelines that dictate what can be sold. I think it is incredibly distasteful and unethical that the owners are choosing to profit off of images of such a violent, disgusting organization. I sadly won't return, and I hope the owners will take accountability for their decisions.
