Very fresh, clean store, and selections you cannot find anywhere else in Correze or Creuse Departments. The owner explained the store format: It's like 3 "markets" in one -- cheese; meat; fruits and vegetables -- each having it's own boss, but united under 1 roof. At check-out, you (the shopper) won't notice the difference. It operates like one food store. In particular, considering the very mundane and predictable selections available in local area supermarkets or farmer's markets, Provenc'Halles is rather amazing. Quality and freshness of the produce is excellent, as are the prices. Very nice cheese selections from France and outside France (it's nice to have a break from local St. Nectaire and Contal varieties). On a recent look through the meat department, we found all the essentials and even turkey, which the butcher was happy to cube up for us to make our own kebabs. I hope the cleanliness and nice selections are clear from the photos I attach. It really is a stand-out store for the area. I didn't check the store hours, but my most recent receipt shows opening times of 6h-19h30. Not sure if that's every day. They don't have a website (I asked). Accepts credit cards.

The Felletin farmers market is open in the small town square on Friday mornings, only. You cannot…read moremiss it, since the square and several surrounding streets are then closed to accommodate the various merchants. Nice selection of fruits and vegetables, cheeses, meats, etc. from various local farmers and sellers. They set up small stands or drive their "store window" flatbed trucks directly into the square. I've found some unusual dried sausages and local cheeses. Prices can be a little higher than local supermarkets, but I think that's the price one pays for freshness and local production. The market is also quite the social event, as much for neighbors to meet as for buying local produce.

This is Limoges' main food market, situated in the heart of the old town, next to the square named…read moreafter the castle which once stood here. The market building was built between 1885 and 1889, and is an attractive building of steel construction, infilled with brick. The exterior has a frieze of enamel plaques depicting the products sold in the market. It has been designated as a national monument. The food here is, as you might expect, of excellent quality, though it is a little expensive: there are butchers, fishmongers, greengrocers, cheesemongers, bakers, chocolatiers and patisserie stalls, as well as a small cafe. Of particular interest to me were the wide range of fresh and dried mushrooms on offer. It's a good place to buy presents for folks back home (but think twice before buying some of the riper cheeses, unless you want to attract attention). There's an underground car park beneath the square.

Checked out the many restaurants on our way before stopping at the market in the Church of Sainte Marie, mainly artisan stuff. Helped ourselves to a chunk of white cow's milk cheese and a punnet of strawberries which went a long way towards lunch at the gite. The high building of the old church is certainly the most unusual site fro a market that I've come across though I know they use an old church as a restaurant in Skibbereen.
