I sought out Marc for assistance with my elderly parents over 1.5 years ago. He met both me and my parents and was very personable, knowledgeable and thoughtful. My father is a navy veteran and so is Marc. They really hit it off talking about their service to our country and I really appreciated that he took the time to talk with my dad about their time in the navy and not just our legal needs. Marc listened carefully, asked good questions along the way and accomplished for us what we were looking to accomplish. His original and ongoing work has been key for my brother and me to help our parents. I have tapped him twice for legal advice on amendments for the revocable trust he set up for our parents and he expertly took care of our legal needs for us. I don't know where these good reviews come from but they are inaccurate. He does not acknowledge appointments or return calls or do anything that an attorney that you are paying to represent you should be doing. I have talked to about 5 attorneys on a recent trust issue and he is by far the worst if even responds. I would never hire this man if he is even an attorney to do anything on my behalf. Marc's comments are false. I never received any notice from him about a re-schedule. Likewise no information from his staff while waiting in the lobby. In fact, they thought he was in the office and put us in a conference room for a while. Likewise was not rude in any way to his staff - they gave us water and we exchanged a few pleasantries. Sorry Marc but I have been trying to finish our transaction or at least get a response from you for a few months now.... In 2017 my husband and I met with Marc to apply for guardianship for my disabled daughter (she was 17 then), obtain a DPOA, a Revocable Trust, a HCS, a LW, a PNG, and write a will. Marc required a 50% deposit upfront ($1500) which we paid, and the balance at completion. Our initial meeting went well as did a few follow-up phone calls and emails afterwards. Then suddenly all communication stopped on his end. I sent multiple emails asking the status of the guardianship as we hand delivered to him all of our paperwork including psychiatric evaluations and medical recommendations, my daughter was now an adult and beginning to have very adult problems but with a disabled mental capacity. Eventually, he called back and apologized profusely stating he would finish our paperwork at no additional cost which I accepted and thanked him for. And then, once again, complete silence from Marc. I have heard nothing, nothing, NOTHING else from him since. My last email to him on 1/25/19 got an automated response back stating "I will be out of the office and will not have access to my e-mails. Please be patient and I will get back to you shortly. Marc J. Soss, Esquire". So, since my initial contact with Marc on 8/15/2017, and my giving him $1500 on 8/20/17 all I have received from him is draft versions of our documents, no final documents, no filing updates, and nothing has been filed for guardianship. Almost two years later now and I give up. I will take the loss and take my business elsewhere. My experience with Marc Soss was very similar to that of Nicole W. (see below). In our first meeting in August 2019 he was very convincing and we paid $1500 up front of a quoted $3,000 fee, with no receipt and no contract, only based on our trust. We had read these yelp reviews and considered the comments of Nicole to probably be unusual. After our first meeting and after waiting we finally received template draft documents for us to fill in very important information regarding our wishes in our Living Will and medical Health Care Surrogate instructions for end-of-life decisions. To my recollection none of the information we discussed in our first meeting was included in these template blank "fill-in" documents except our names and those of our friends/family we named to take part in final decisions. My wife and I had questions about how to complete these documents, but we could not get in touch with Marc again. After months of calls and emails, we finally met with him a second time. That was a very tense meeting in which it was very hard get answers to our questions, and he stated he had already spent $2,500 worth of his time with us. We went home to try to complete the documents. After that, once again, Marc remained out of touch. I finally threatened to file a performance complaint with the Florida Bar. That got his attention. We met soon thereafter and I offered to let it be, because I just needed those documents. We discussed the documents again and he asked me to send him an updated version of items we wanted in our Living Will. That is the last I ever heard from him. We were fortunate in that our son's college roommate, who is now an attorney on that other FL coast, recommend Marc to us. You may not be aware, if you are new to FL as we were, that there are some real issues with the state appointing guardians with the power to manage your assets if you don't have the legal documents you need in place. Mr. Soss charged $1,080 for his services. I felt his services billed were an excessive amount for the minimal (to lack of) action taken to protect my interests as a client. He failed to file any paperwork in the courts to protect my interest in the estate in question, initially informed me our initial consult was free yet charged $300.00; and he was in fact more than 1-1/2 hours late to our initial appointment on October 7. We spoke one time after that and he spoke once to my brother since I was so frustrated at being unable to get a return call from him in spite of several calls that he did NOT return. His last action on my behalf was October 25, which was simply a forwarded email from opposing counsel; and was actually the vast majority, if not almost all of our communication; of which I have and would be happy to provide as proof to his lack of communication skills, even with the clients he is representing and billing. I still am not sure what he did for his fee of $1,080 and in fact neither are two other attorneys I inquired to regarding the matter!!!! His last action, which was a minimal forwarding of emails from opposing counsel, was on 10/25. So, 18 days, no return phone calls, one call from him to say I didn't have much of a case, and about 5 forwarded emails in all for that fee.
