As a matter of principal, the purpose of this review is not to review CrossFit as a training style,…read morebut rather, Crossfit Copenhagen as a business, and namely Kirken, the Nørrebro location.
Like the name suggests, CFC Kirken is located in an old church, tucked back behind a courtyard in central Nørrebro. The trainers at this gym are very knowledgeable, and despite a certification to be a crossfit trainer taking only a long weekend, most go above and beyond the call of duty to educate themselves, and each other, with the most recent scientific information about HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), diet, and physiology. Classes are small (same story for all xfit boxes), and there is almost always time allocated within the WOD (work-out of the day) for tips on technique, and feedback from the trainers.
CFC Kirken has kettlebell specific classes, mobility classes, various levels of regular WODs (beginner specific classes that focus a lot on technique for people who have never lifted weights before, as well as advanced classes for people who do not like to waste time breaking down every single workout), strength training focusing on a different olympic weight lift every day, a kids class on Sunday mornings to help kids get to know their body better (they don't lift weights, just do mobility and work with their own body weight), and some gymnastics classes. Basically every hour at least, there are one or two classs available to choose from, and the rules of CFC make it so, unlike at fitnessdk, you can only sign up for three classes at any given time, to allow people an opportunity to prioritize their classes without competing with the obsessed church-goers.
Overall, the environment is quite hyggelig. No one yells at you, contrary to popular belief, but the ambiance is extremely supportive and encouraging, the coaches are personable, and the people who train at Kirken are very friendly and helpful. If you are committed to a lifestyle of health and exercise, you will easily find your niche at Kirken, and it also won't take long for you to see unbelievable physical results, as HIIT (what crossfit is) is probably the most efficient workout out there right now. I love having my little xfit community here, and look forward to going to classes even when the WOD is tough, because it just feels so good.
