Very nice gym with a lot of space and good equipment.. I do crossfit and they had a lot of…read moreequipment suited for a good workout.. also the "free" area is large - perfect for jumping around :)

These days, Fresh Fitness is morphing with Fitness World and I am very excited to see what happens…read moreto this centre then. But for now, here's my review of the Fresh Fitness version of the gym. Out of the Fresh Fitness centres I have visited in Copenhagen (this one, Vesterbro, Amager, Købmagergade and Nørrebro), I think this one is my favorite. It has the most space to move around in, it's clean and the staff is super friendly and helpful. It also has the cleanest machines I've seen in Fresh Fitness as of yet. Big plus! Fresh Fitness is a large chain of exercise centres, where you can get fit "or die trying" for 149-199 DKK per month. The last prise includes access to classes, ranging from Body Pump and Crossfit to Body Balance and "Stram op!". There's something for everyone here. They also have a wide selection of virtual classes, which are basically classes with bad music and a trainer on a video. Kinda like working out at home in front of your tv in the 80's, I imagine. The classes being held is mostly Les Mills, so they follow well thought out programs and the trainers seem well educated within these classes. Some correct you if you do something wrong, others will not. The classes at Østerbro seem to be less popular than in other Fresh Fitness centres, so there's space and equipment for everyone. This also means that more of the trainer's attention is on you, something which can be a good thing. And an exhausting thing. All in all, I think Fresh Fitness Østerbo is a very decent and affordable fitness centre!

Energii Amager - The "torture" machine

Energii Amager

Yes! I love to torture myself, or something in that direction…read more... The background story is actually that I don't like conventional fitness center, because of the smell of sweaty people, the amount of endless staring into equipment that you're not quite sure how to operate but afraid that you might do something wrong with it, and to trump it all - I hate the crowd, or let's say people, in general. So I'm more into loner sports like running. However, I heard about this place from Yelp, where Martin R gave tip about this new place that could basically give you all the benefits of the fitness center, without the endless staring part - because there are instructors that tell you what to do with that complicated machine. Energii is a form of pilates, done on reformer machine, it might be hard for some, and easy for some others, but I've experienced that my muscles are challenged in such way they've never been that I actually woke up the next day and found myself couldn't laugh about it - like literally - my stomach muscles hurt so much after. But that's only a good sign. The place in Amager is clean and bright. They don't have any other classes but Classic and Power (some other centers have hot yoga, heat it up TRX classes and the likes), but that's all I need (at least for newbie me who have yet to master the reformer machine). They don't have shower, but they do have changing room - which fortunately doesn't matter much for me since I live across the park from this place. The instructors were nice, although they could be tough (as they way they scrunched up their face when they saw me doing it wrong - ELBOW IN THE BODY, EVA!! - uhh yes, ma'am - but that's only because they don't want you to hurt yourself during the training process. The classes might seem short (1 hour only) and the price is quite high (800 kr a month for free training and a thousand something for clipcard) but with sessions that require instructors all the time, I think that's fair enough (it's not like fitness center where you're basically "let loose" to do what you want). You'll get supervised training all the time and you'll feel that your body benefits from it. No more excuses from now!

Crossfit Copenhagen - Kirken

3.2(9 reviews)

As a matter of principal, the purpose of this review is not to review CrossFit as a training style,…read morebut rather, Crossfit Copenhagen as a business, and namely Kirken, the Nørrebro location. Like the name suggests, CFC Kirken is located in an old church, tucked back behind a courtyard in central Nørrebro. The trainers at this gym are very knowledgeable, and despite a certification to be a crossfit trainer taking only a long weekend, most go above and beyond the call of duty to educate themselves, and each other, with the most recent scientific information about HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), diet, and physiology. Classes are small (same story for all xfit boxes), and there is almost always time allocated within the WOD (work-out of the day) for tips on technique, and feedback from the trainers. CFC Kirken has kettlebell specific classes, mobility classes, various levels of regular WODs (beginner specific classes that focus a lot on technique for people who have never lifted weights before, as well as advanced classes for people who do not like to waste time breaking down every single workout), strength training focusing on a different olympic weight lift every day, a kids class on Sunday mornings to help kids get to know their body better (they don't lift weights, just do mobility and work with their own body weight), and some gymnastics classes. Basically every hour at least, there are one or two classs available to choose from, and the rules of CFC make it so, unlike at fitnessdk, you can only sign up for three classes at any given time, to allow people an opportunity to prioritize their classes without competing with the obsessed church-goers. Overall, the environment is quite hyggelig. No one yells at you, contrary to popular belief, but the ambiance is extremely supportive and encouraging, the coaches are personable, and the people who train at Kirken are very friendly and helpful. If you are committed to a lifestyle of health and exercise, you will easily find your niche at Kirken, and it also won't take long for you to see unbelievable physical results, as HIIT (what crossfit is) is probably the most efficient workout out there right now. I love having my little xfit community here, and look forward to going to classes even when the WOD is tough, because it just feels so good.

Yes, as a crossfit place - defenately as good as it gets. Became a member here about 6 months ago…read moreand felt welcomed from the very start. Unfortunately I became aware of the "opstartförlöp" after I had gone there about 2 months..but I felt that the instructors gave me so much guidance during the WOD:s and since I have many years of functional training in my body I considered it to be enough for me. Every time I come to Kirken, I always get a smile from people who work there or from fellow crossfitters. I strongly recommend this place as a crossfit training center but also as a community for a healthy lifestyle and a place to meet new people.
