The campground is very well laid out - there was a lot of space for tenting, and one of my favorite things ever - each tenting spot had a raised square that was leveled off so that the tenter was not sleeping on an incline, or rocks or the like. Also, each tenting site had its own running water! There were also showers and really, the loveliest bathrooms I have ever seen at a campsite. Clean, not smelly, and attached to a gorgeous wooden hall that had *two* built in fireplaces, and ample space for a party, if one were in the mood for that. This campground also has laundry facilities, wood for purchase for burning in the fire pits, (I suppose most campgrounds have that, but anyway, it gets *delivered* to your site!) and wonderfully friendly staff. It is situated on about 60 acres of privately owned land, 20 acres of which are dedicated to camping, in a relatively quiet area near a winery ;) I think we were exceptionally lucky to get a couple of tenting spots there on a long weekend, as it was very full, but mostly of rv's. I suspect it is booked much in advance, so I would recommend making reservations. I would not hesitate to go back to this place.

We stayed at Strongwater our very first night in British Colombia after a long day of driving and…read moreferrying from the Vancouver airport. This place has so much charm and character. First, let me say that leading up to our visit, my communications with the owner/operator were pretty lax and informal. I didn't get an official confirmation of my booking other than an informal back and forth inquiry email that later served as my confirmation. This same relaxed feel continued when we arrived. The property has 11 campsites and 7 cabins. We booked a cabin, which was very reasonably priced. When we arrived, we made our way up some stairs to the "office" having to side step at least six or seven chickens that were just hanging out on the stairs. Hilarious. There was a note on the door that said check-in at the Skookumbus (an old painted bus that serves as a little roadside food stand - cute!). There we found Cheyenne and a few friends and family all hanging out around a picnic table. She was very friendly (and as expected extremely casual and informal). We made our way to our cabin encountering all manner of farm animals - chickens, roosters and baby ducklings - cute! Once we saw our little cabin we fell in love! We were in No. 4 (see map), which was one of the most secluded. I will say that none of the sites (both campgrounds and cabins) are particularly secluded and a few of them are pretty much right on top of others. I think the understanding, though, is if you're staying here, you're doing it for the charm, the price-point and the community feel of it all, which Strongwater has in spades. We had a restful night sleep in our adorable little cabin, though the described King Bed was just two twin beds pushed together. There were a few moments of being stuck in the crack, but otherwise we stayed warm and really enjoyed the whole feel of it. Checkout was, once again, extremely informal. We approached Cheyenne the night before we were scheduled to leave (as we were getting up really early the next morning) and found her around a campfire up at the Skookumbus hanging out with family and friends (pretty much right where we left her, haha!). I essentially just handed her the cash for the room, which she then directed at some other responsible person in the circle that I hadn't previously met. We thanked everyone for the great time and that was it. Even though we were there for less than 24 hours, we really enjoyed our stay. Personally, I would have liked a bit more of an organized structure to the payment system and the check-in and check-out process, as well as a little less nonchalance towards their guests, but it didn't bother me too much! I just interpreted it as that laid back B.C. vibe. Definitely put this on your B.C. checklist!

Don't tend to spend time there as there are comfy couches and a fireplace in the common area. Bathrooms are shared and pretty institutional with 1 shower each. No unisex. There was another family group and the kitchen is big enough with two stoves, fridges etc. (We think 1 stove is less hot than advertised so FYI) Bring spices, sharp knives and oil. Wifi is decent and really only available in common areas. There is a gym downstairs with weights, some machines and treadmill. They could use a chest press bench but tiny issue. Overall great value and pretty inexpensive for what you get.

Terrible experience with our stay here from start to finish. After multiple frustrating email…read morecommunications, we were moved against our request from the ocean front site we specifically booked for my husband's birthday to a much less desirable and not level forested site because the caretaker thought our 16' minivan would be too big for the parking spot (it was not). We arrived to find the campground half empty but still assigned a tight space in between two loud RV groups that yelled and partied until 3am. Funny that the quiet hours seemed to be strictly enforced by email but not actually regulated by anyone in person. This resulted in a terrible nights sleep that could have been avoided if our original reservation had been honored. We also found old trash bags behind the site that had been torn up by animals and transients sleeping on the beach went we went for a walk in the morning. This campground stay had great potential to be enjoyable because of the convenient location from the ferry and easy beach access, but poor management and the rude aggressive tone of the caretaker completely ruined our experience. Two stars only because we saw a whale and sea lions from the beach, otherwise I do not recommend staying here.

My friend recommended to come here for beach camping. He has been here before and loved it…read more This is my first time beach camping and it is a good introduction before going bush camping. The place is organized, with clear markers on the camp site. There are two washroom facilities on both upper and lower levels. The washroom has toilets, sinks and hot shower (token operated, $1 for 4 mins). Get the tokens when checking in. Also get the key to the usb charging locker. There is also laundry facilities. $3 per load for washer, same for dryer. Have loonies with you as it only takes that and there is no change machine inside. The place is safe and pretty secure. You need the key to enter the washroom and laundry room. There is a common wash area to wash your utensils. I love the close proximity to the beach. There is a playground, volleyball court, pier and a beach trail. Beautiful sunset by the waters and we saw moon jellyfish, seals and sea otters. Eagles too. Go with someone who knows camping and learn from them what to do so that you will know what to do in future. Setting up the tent, starting fire and bbqing. We were lucky there was no fire ban in place when we were there so we could have the campfire to make s'mores. Highly recommended.

There was even fluffy white towels in the spotless bathrooms. We did get moved from the campsite we originally booked, but moved to a better, oceafront site, without added cost to us. Fast forward to April 2024, we decide to book 2 nights, one going up Island, and another one week later going down Island. Knowing there was a chance that we may be moved sites by management, we paid $10 extra for a site guarantee. When we arrived, the park was a ghost town. It looked unkempt, with just a few over-winter trailers, and 1 other camper... Set-up in the site we reserved. We went to the office, which was closed, and called the number indicated. The owner was currently in Alberta, and told us to pick another spot. I asked for my $10 site guarantee to be refunded, and was ridiculed. Really? She asked. It's only $10, she said. But the whole point of the $10 was to guarantee our spot, I replied. No response. Later, we realized that no one had given us the code for the bathroom door, and when we texted her and asked, she ignored that as well. My husband is a chatty guy and talked to a local to ask what happened to the park between 2019 and 2024 and he said that the owner's son was originally running the place, but she fired him because he wasn't making enough profit. So there you go. The park is profit above comfort and customer service. We cancelled the second night and will never return.

I'm reaching out to address a concern that may affect many folks who frequent Brads Dads Land…read more(BDL). Recently, you may have noticed unexpected charges appearing on your credit card statements about a month after a visit to BDL. This message aims to raise awareness and encourage transparency about these possible costs, and to assist patrons to be prepared when they engage with BDL services. As regular patrons of BDL who have consistently paid for our RVsite fees a year in advance over the past several seasons, and have recently booked our pre-paid trips for 2026, we find ourselves frustrated by what we perceive as either significant mismanagement or an unfortunate scheme of petty extortion. This has been a disappointing experience for us, and we believe it's crucial to address these concerns for the benefit of all loyal customers. Our expressed concerns here may be a campers only defence to cope with unexpected incorrect/bogus alleged charges from BDL of which the camper may have no prior knowledge. Today after we had left BDL at 7.25 am, we received an email while travelling home at 8.26 am from "Gabby" alleging we had an outstanding balance but our credit card had expired and BDL did not have our new credit card number. We responded by saying "We do not have any outstanding balance"; specifically we had paid everything on arrival from a $200 credit we had on file from the previous month and we bought nothing from the shop during our stay. Since that first email at 8.25 am today from BDL, we received several other emails, all unsigned, over the next two hours from a BDL address. The first alleged we owed money from 15 June 2025, the second next alleged we owed it from 15 July 2025. Then we received a computersized invoice by email alleging we owed money from June 2024. Finally about 11.30 am we got an website based invoice showing the amount we allegedly owed. However to our astonishment, the amount had more than DOUBLED, that occuring in a space of about three hours. This latest version of our alleged purchases had two dates with two amounts being July 15, 2025 and July 17 2025, the latter being today, the day we had left. There were no tabs attached to this alleged outstanding balance, no video of us leaving with items, no agreement that we could or would run a tab, no proof at all that we had purchased items from the store. BDL did not appear to contemplate for one moment that perhaps they had made a mistake in the charges, although they did apologize for the clerical error on dates! And then at 11.51 am. an email from BDL stated "we are just trying to settle a purchase you made but did not pay for ... which is described as theft under the law". Whoa! Theft? We are respectable 75 and 83 year olds respectively. We are immune suppressed and unable to travel to exotic places anymore or be close to others physically ... we are just doing our RV thing quietly . And here is BDL not just accusing of us of theft, but actually stating it. Their email at around 11.50 am went on to say that "BDL management" were aware of the correspondence. We wondered out loud at that point if maybe "BDL Management" were incompetent or swindlers too? None-the-less here we had BDL sitting as judge and jury with no credible evidence whatsoever to prove we had "stolen"anything but determined to charge us even at the risk of libel as they clearly stated they had shared this information. To us, this is all bizarre if not dangerous. BDL in their incredible false rightouness went on to say that as we were coming back in August and September, the new amount (that had magically doubled) of alleged theft of items would be charged to us in August. The definition of extortion is demanding money illegally by using various means one being threats of exposing criminal wrongdoing as a form of coercion. So driving home, we could not help but think about a Dad or Mom taking their kids to BDL in good faith. We imagine them suddenly getting a charge for specified or unspecified items as we had. How are they ever going to sort it out? Do they ask the kids if they bought 15 ice creams each? And then trying to get bogus charges reversed by their credit card supplier on the word of their children? Credit card reversals are a longwinded affairs and in these circumstances with apparently such hard nosed individuals, I think one would give up. Innocent folks would likely just shake their head and try to forget the extra unexpected expense they did not account for in their vacation budget and can possibly ill- afford. The kids perhaps would wrongly take the blame. It hurts us to think about this. Really hurts. In our view, this is potentially a very slippery slope that BDL is running these days and certainly not the kind of treatment we, as faithful supporters expected. We love some of the policies in the campsite such as a low tolerance of noise and loud music…read moreplaying. There is a great policy for recycling too. However, it was revealed this August, that the Manager (dressed in a kilt) was skimming money from customers' credit cards, and was in the process of being fired. When we checked our statements, we did indeed discover that we had been overcharged. New staff had taken over, and were trying to pick up the pieces. One of them was so elated that she was giving out free coffees for several mornings. I wonder what the owner would think about that?

Labour day weekend was approaching, and my lady friends and I grew worried that the weather was…read moregoing to be miserable for our camping adventure that we had planned for months. We had second thoughts about what was to be an epic time, to never-leaving-the-campground waiting-to-go-home sort of situation. Regardless of how the weather could have been (it ended up being sunshiny most of the time!) Surf Junction made our trip to Ucluelet enjoyable and memorable. The staff were super friendly, the hot tub was bumpin' in the eve, and the camping spaces were adequately sized. With our car full of beer, shelter, and food, plus four happy bodies, we cruised the winding roads from Nanaimo to Ukee awaiting our exciting arrival. Upon entering the main area, the staff at check-in were chatty and informative. Later on, they do check your camp ground and have a curfew of sorts, around 11 I believe. They want to keep the noise level respectful, and the earliness of the curfew was not too much of a problem because we would have been drinking all day and/or tired from the day's activities. Located just off the main highway, Surf Junction is also close by to the beach, by about a ten minute drive. Tofino is actually quite a bit further, and has become quite touristy so we were glad to stick to Ukee. The Junction offers surf lessons! For $80, they provide transport, equipment, and a super cool and very patient instructor, who in our case was Tanner (he was awesome). The gals and I had a wicked day of shreddin' some gnarly waves at Wickanninnish Beach, thanks to Tanner. The other guests varied from families with young children, to some wild ones escaping for the weekend to get rowdy. Quite the mix of people gathered at the hot tub area, there were always some interesting characters to socialize with. Campsites are equipped with a fire pit and picnic table. All you need! Plus lots of trees from which to hang tarps and clotheslines. The prices were reasonable, and the facilities were great, considering you're camping. The showers do cost money, but understandably, since hot water is expensive and hard to come by, aaaand who cares, you're camping haha! I would highly reccommend this spot for younger groups of friends, we're talking 20's and 30's, since the atmosphere is something you would definitely dig. Be sure to check out Pina Print shop in town, they advertise at the main desk at the Junction, was totally worth the visit :) Happy camping!!
