Residence Inn by Marriott Fort Lauderdale Intracoastal/Il Lugano

The Il Lugano in Ft. Lauderdale is perhaps the best we have stayed in within the US. The location…read moreis perfect, the rates are very reasonable. If you are going on a cruise out of either Ft. Lauderdale or even Miami, this hotel is perfectly situated. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast is buffet, including everything you would want in a tasty and filling. The "feral" Iguanas are cute, but don't touch.

So the place seemed very roomy and well laid out. There was a full size freezer/fridge, a two burner stove, a sink, cabinets, plates, etc. - The bed was comfortable and we got housekeeping every other day. The bath towels were fluffy and soft. -The balcony overlooking the intracoastal and downtown was really nice and big....There was a lounge chair, two tables and six chairs total...very good. - The location right by restaurants and shops made it very easy to get around. - The restaurant was being transitioned to a new owner. The new restaurant, G&B Dockside was getting ready to open, so we did not have breakfast at the restaurant nor at the conference room (alternate site) due to meetings. So instead of opening a room and setting it up for the breakfast buffet, we were all squeezed in around the lobby bar area. Very tight, very hard to move around and get around. I got hit on the head a few times by passers by trying to move around this tight space. I believe they will be transitioning the breakfast out in the next few days. There was no fresh egg, bacon, etc....all they had was prepackaged burritos, croissants and egg cheese frittata packages...that needed to be microwaved, but with no labelling of how long to heat them up. The last day they ran out of hard boiled eggs !!! I asked about that and they said, they were just OUT. I said, there's a Publix 3 blocks away....?!?!? So we did not have eggs that day. - The pool was not heated well. Many guests complained that they could not get in since it was kind of cold. - The lounge chairs around the pool are stained and could use some re-upholstering. - Some of the front desk people were really nice and friendly, some were not friendly at all. Overall a nice hotel in a great location but with some areas that could be improved with stronger management.

We stayed in room 1116, it was a corner room with a nice view of the beach. The room was a good size and I really like the bathroom layout. There was a microwave, small fridge, and stove top which is great if you are having a long stay and want to heat up or make food. The location was very convenient and right across from the beach. The hotel has many amenities including a spa, pool, restaurants and a rooftop bar. The resort fee gets you beach chairs and towels. Some minor complaints we had were related to the wait times for the elevators. There are 4 elevators but one is designated to the rooftop bar. Besides the elevators, we really enjoyed our brief stay here.

The only reason I even found out was because I called ahead to let them know I'd be checking in later due to dinner plans. That's when the staff informed me my reservation had been canceled on the 16th--four days before my stay. When I asked why, I was told the reason was "CONFIDENTIAL" (yes, seriously). Meanwhile, my credit card was still charged and no refund had been issued. I called back and got a different staff member who was dismissive, tried to rush me off the phone, and repeatedly gaslit me by saying I had a "prebooked rate"--as if booking a room three weeks in advance is somehow a valid reason to cancel it. Eventually, I was transferred to the "resolution department," which seems to exist for situations exactly like this--where they cancel lower-rate bookings so they can resell the room at a higher price. The representative I spoke with tried to help but wouldn't rebook the room unless I provided the exact rate I originally paid. When I attempted to pull it up, my banking app wouldn't allow screenshots due to security restrictions. At that point, with no place to stay and my card already charged, I was stuck. Thankfully, my in-laws stepped in and booked another (non-refundable) room for us, otherwise we would have been completely stranded. To sum it up: Hilton canceled my reservation after taking my money, gave no notice, issued no refund, and did it solely to resell the room at a higher price. They refused to explain the real reason and then tried to sell me the same room at double the rate. If it weren't for my in-laws stepping in, we quite literally would have been left without a place to stay in Fort Lauderdale--not to mention this completely ruined my wife's birthday.

We arrived around 9 am after our cruise, and our assigned upgraded room (suite) was not ready. The front desk receptionist, Dominique, was most helpful and gave us 5 star service in looking for a room with a balcony that was available for us. She found one and upgraded us to an ocean front. It was truly the BEST ocean front room we have ever had in Ft Lauderdale and Miami. I would have loved to stay longer just to enjoy the view more. We had a mini-suite, versus the regular suite which would not have had the balcony. Room 1715. Big shower, comfortable sitting chair, large balcony with cushioned chairs and table, Lavazza coffee, ironing board. We were so close, we could hear the ocean waves. Pool was fine. Hot tub. By the pool were cushioned lounge chairs and umbrellas, but some of the cushions were flat. A pool attendant said new cushions were on order for next year, so it would be better. A shout-out to the pool attendant who dragged over a different chair with a cushion that had some cushion left in it for me. She was genuinely nice. There was also a separate section of chairs facing a wall closer to the bathroom, so if it was crowded, you would still be able to get a chair but not with a cushion. I liked the fitted towel covers they put over the chairs. It was chilly and windy when we were there, so I asked for an extra chair cover to use as a blanket. Periodically, the attendants came by with chilled water, frozen fruit. The pool-side service was excellent. Different servers may come by asking if you need anything or to pick up your dishes, since they work as a team. The hamburger and fries was delicious ($35). Chicken tenders were pretty good. The alcohol drinks were $20. I liked the non-alcoholic mango daiquiri. ' I highly recommend making reservations at Takata, Japanese restaurant at the hotel. It got packed later and everything was absolutely delicious - one of the best dinners in Ft Lauderdale we have had in over 20 years. It is also open for breakfast. I had the avocado toast which was okay. Down the street in the shopping center is a CVS. We have stayed in a number of Ft Lauderdale hotels over the years for a cruise. The outstanding service from Dominique at the front desk to the pool attendants and servers, the Takata server all were phenomenal. The room was incredible and we appreciated the generous supply of Lavazza coffee and microwave. We greatly enjoyed our stay at the Conrad, and it will be at the top of our list next time we are in Ft Lauderdale.

The yellow water coming from the faucet was especially concerning and looked very strange. After checking into our room, we waited 40 minutes for our luggage to be delivered. In the end, we had to go downstairs and get it ourselves. The pool is extremely small, overcrowded with children, and closes at 6 PM, which honestly makes no sense for a resort-style hotel -- I've never experienced that anywhere else. The valet parking is also extremely overpriced. Overall, this hotel is absolutely not worth the money they charge.

If you're booking the Courtyard Marriott in Fort Lauderdale with the expectation that the elevated…read moreprice tag signals an elevated experience, temper those expectations. This property has the bones of a solid stay, but the value equation just doesn't add up. Rooms & Atmosphere: The rooms are clean and functional, and the location is undeniably convenient if you're hopping on a cruise or need quick access to the airport. But for the nightly rate--often pushing well beyond what a standard Courtyard typically commands--you expect something a bit more polished, a bit more modern, a bit more... worth it. Instead, it feels like you're paying premium-resort pricing for mid-tier accommodations. Food & Dining: Here's where things really fall apart. The on‑site food is sub‑par at best and extremely overpriced. Think cafeteria‑level quality at steakhouse prices. A simple breakfast sandwich shouldn't cost what a full brunch does elsewhere in Fort Lauderdale, and yet here we are. The Bistro concept can work at other Courtyards, but at this location it feels like an afterthought--uninspired, bland, and nowhere near aligned with the cost. Service: Staff are friendly and do their best, which helps soften the edges, but even great service can't compensate for the mismatch between price and product. Overall: This Courtyard leans heavily on its location and brand name, but the experience doesn't justify the premium. If the rates were more in line with what you actually receive, this would be an easy 4‑star stay. As it stands, the high price point and disappointing food drag it down. If you're looking for convenience and don't mind overpaying for the basics, it'll get the job done. But if value matters, you'll want to explore other options in the area. Good Luck

One of the perks of being a Travel Advisor is getting to plan and book my own trips. For this stay,…read moreI booked three nights under my Bonvoy account and an additional night under my husband's. We arrived in the evening, and check‑in was quick and easy. I let the front desk know about the second reservation under my husband's name, and they added a note to the file. I also received a small bag with two complimentary waters. Be aware that the hotel charges additional fees for early check‑in, and parking is $10 per day. You'll need to scan a QR code to register your vehicle. The property is not near the ocean, so there are no ocean‑view rooms. Our room (506) had a balcony overlooking the parking lot. The carpet looked newer, and the bathroom was a good size with a spacious shower. However, there was some peeling paint on the ceiling, and the bathroom water had a yellow tint, which I'm not sure is typical for the area. The bed was firmer than I prefer, though my husband found it comfortable. The pillows were not great, but the front desk quickly provided firmer replacements when I requested them the next day. During checkout of my reservation, housekeeping stopped by to confirm whether we had vacated the room. Once my husband explained that we had another night booked, they were satisfied. Checkout itself was smooth--the young woman assisting us was kind, patient, and even printed our luggage tags. The location is convenient, with plenty of restaurants and stores nearby, and parking was easy. One thing to note: the main lobby is not connected to the lodging buildings.
