Security opens one hour before flights, so you don't need to arrive hours in advance. Luggage accordingly is usually ready within 15 minutes or less of deplaning. It's very easy from plane or parking lot to next destination or vacation /home. The only carrier that flies thru here is Delta. Hoping American joins them soon. See Delta's website for flight details. There are rental cars here and the islands, shopping and food are less than 20 minutes away. What's stopping you from visiting the Golden Isles? You just need to park in the designated area (posted before entering the garage and pulling a ticket). When you're checking out, go to the cashier with your parking ticket. If no one is there, press the assistance button and they'll walk you through the process.

Everything is very clear, with open space for big crowds and the restrooms are very clean. Also, they've recently changed their scanning machines at TSA which makes the process smoothers. However, once you pass TSA and enter the terminals, that's where it gets very crowded and there's not enough space for the amount of people waiting for their flight which can be very chaotic. Also, the food options are very limited, so I would recommend just grabbing something to eat before getting to the airport. Also, the bathrooms near the gates are very dirty and would avoid them at all costs. Frankly it feels like a whole different airport once you cross TSA, and not in a good way. However, the main reason why I am giving them three stars is their rental car area, which is insanely confusing. You first check-in with your rental car company across from the baggage claim area, and they will give you a parking spot number to pick-up the car. If you are carrying a lot of luggage with you, this can be extremely annoying because it is a long walk and the signs are not very clear. If you are traveling with kids and a lot of luggage, I suggest having one person pick up the rental, while the other stays put by the pick-up area outside of baggage claim.

The smartest decision I made when planning my visits was to start flying into Hilton Head Airport instead of Savannah Airport. It is significantly faster, easier, and far less of a hassle. Although the airport is small, its compact size makes it incredibly convenient for inpatient travelers like me. Shorter lines, quicker security checks, and less walking. Well, walking is good for you, but sometimes you are in a hurry. Currently, the airport is undergoing renovations and a slight expansion, which is great news. These improvements will enhance the overall experience without sacrificing the ease that makes Hilton Head Airport so appealing. For me, it is a perfect choice; simple, efficient, and getting better all the time.
