It's perfect for grabbing a quick bite or simply enjoying a bit of window shopping. Another highlight is the large digital departure board (the "Anzeigetafel"), clearly displaying all train connections in the main hall. I got to enjoy Mannheim for a bonus hour after the wonderful folks at Deutsche Bahn delayed my onward train. I spent the time walking the station waiting areas near the platforms, finding the toilets and then getting another coffee. There is plenty to do here while you're waiting. Coffee, cafes, some shopping, they have a locker area where you can leave your luggage if you're planning to explore Mannheim. The station was easy to navigate with lots of smooth floors, speedy lifts (that don't smell like urine!) though not nearly enough places to sit unless you're a customer of that particular cafe. "We'll always have Mannheim" became our group's motto on a recent trip. You see we had issues on both ends of our trip between Frankfurt Airport and Karlsruhe. So if you see a 15 minute connection in Mannheim, be afraid, very, very afraid. Then make sure you put a Plan B in place. While the delays are the fault of the German train system, not the station, if you find yourself stuck in the Mannheim Hauptbahnhoff, head for the Coffee Fellows on the upper level. While the rest of the station is drafty and a bit dated, this coffee house has a lounge with comfortable seating and serves good coffee drinks (basic and fancy) and bagels. This chain is a bit pricy, but well worth it when you have an hour to kill. One of our trips was on a busy travel day in Germany (Carnival), but the staff in the train office was helpful. I didn't realize it at first, but while there was a long line (you pull a number) for second class passengers, first class ticket holders have a separate line. Just like on the airlines, membership has its privileges. read more

Nord See delivered me a sumptuous large mittags essen @ 8am in d morning. I was crazy hungry and had a long commute ahead of me. Exceptionally helpful & cheerful staff. Lady delivered me a blistering hot meal of d juiciest sole & fried prawns. Then they slapped on generous portions of cocktail & dill sauces and served it with s generous portion of freshly fried potato wedges. What a way 2 start my day. A surprise from a fast food outlet- service & meal quality. Neat tidy counters. Cuttlery though is stsined with dried wsterdrops! Assets: staff & impeccable ingredients. Deserves 4.5. Mannheim Hauptbahnhof - Train Stations Near Me - Mannheim, BW

Transferred from Heidelberg to Paris in Mannheim's Hauptbahnhof and it was a pleasant and enjoyable experience. We had just under an hour to wait so it wasn't too bad. Just enough time to use the toilet (which was clean!) and get a pastry (which was fresh!) and a coffee (which needed more milk than there are cows to produce. well, 2 out of 3 ain't bad, right Meatloaf?). I found the station well sign-posted and easy to navigate. Plenty of train 'maps' were posted on the platform so you could see where your seat would be and wait in that area for the train. This made getting on the train SO much easier! I also visited the Hauptbahnhof when I was lost driving around Mannheim and needed a cab (LONG story!). The parking was easy and VERY close to the station. The taxis were plentiful and our driver spoke very good English. The parking ended up being quite cheap so I was very happy. read more

the passage to the trains&platforms is indeed not wide enough... but what I LOVE about this trainstation: since it has been refurbished in 2001 it has changed its looks much for the better!!! This place is coming together really well. I feel that the do not have enough parking, but however they are building a new one on the other side of the tracks. They do have a few small restaurants in the station that I do not recommend. read more
