Had an audition here for a commercial. I don't have much more to say about it. It was quick, I was in and out, and the people were friendly!

I used to be subscribed to the HAYS newsletter but decided to unsubscribe because they sent me…read moretwo job postings with the phrase "Canadian experience required" and no explanation as to why. Those jobs could be performed by anyone with the right experience regardless of where they had acquired it, therefore it's totally UNACCEPTABLE to publish it as a "must" without any further explanation. Absolutely horrible and unprofessional given that the Hays brand is supposed to be "global"! You seem not to know that in Ontario it's a human rights violation to post that requirement. You could be better informed by checking the Ontario Human Rights Commission's website, or at least say why your client needs that requirement. I'd never recommend Hays Canada to my employer, colleagues or friends!!

That being said, my recruiter went MIA after my first interview. I understand they work in a competitive, fast-paced work environment, but dependability and a simply call for feedback was all I expected ( especially given I was instructed to contact her post interview) I then didn't hear back from her for weeks (Vacation was of course the reason given) but weeks followed where I had to periodically and repeatedly reach out to her for just simple feedback. Struck me as unprofessional.

Do they have those?" I said "Of course they probably do" and did an online search. (I am the computer person in our household:) I came upon Stafflink--they had a nice looking website and really interesting content supplementing it, like blogs with topics like "How to Get a Job if You're Overqualified". I thought they seemed very in touch with modern thought and technology so this was the first number I presented to my husband. Turns out I was right! Stafflink set Brian up with a wonderful IT guy who was just looking for a couple weeks of work before moving out west. Brian was very impressed by all his transactions with Stafflink, and wanted me to stress here that he'll definitely use them again. http://www.stafflink.ca

What makes it worse is despite the fact that I complained about my low rate and dissatisfaction, the agent pretended he couldn't increase it and that he was making less money through me. The benefits (statutory holiday pay, etc) are also completely non-existent so I highly advise you not to waste your time with them. Any agency that makes money through the hard work of people and still rips them off should not be on the market.

I was interviewed, if you can call it that, by a female perm placement agent and a male temp placement agent (I will not mention their names). They had the opportunity to review my resume prior to our interview. Being from another location in Ontario I chose to return to Toronto to live and have been room and boarding with my girlfriend, which was my permanent address. I was lucky if I got a five minute interview from the perm placement representative who told me that I would not be considered an Office Team candidate until I found my own place to live with a permanent address! I said how could I do that without a permanent position and that room boarding was my permanent address. She then left the room (she spoke to me for less than 5 minutes and didn't even sit down!). I have since attempted to contact several Office Team GTA offices for perm placement positions. They seem quite positive and then suddenly they have nothing for me! Their excuses were that the positions had already been filled, even though they were still posted several weeks later, or that they would get back to me. I am still waiting after months of disappointment. The same thing happened to me again just last week. I would like to know what's written on my profile. I have over 17 years experience as an executive assistant in corporate and Healthcare industries. I would consider myself a good catch. I know this because I worked in a corporate placement agency and I can guarantee you our branch staff would never be permitted to treat their clients the way I have been treated. After all they were our bread and butter. So extremely disappointed. I will not be contacting them again and they have lost an amazing EA.

A recruiter reached…read moreout to me, we had a great chat and sure enough a job opportunity came up not longer after. A day before my scheduled chat with the VP of the hiring company, my father-in-law was admitted to the hospital. His prognosis wasn't good. I reached out and told them that I could not make the online chat and that I would update them once we knew what was going. Both recruiter and the VP of the hiring company were ok with that. Sadly my father in law passed away. A few weeks later, after the funeral planning and grieving, I reached out to the recruiter to let them know that I was back on my feet and open to opportunities. Never heard back from them. Since then I have emailed several times, and every time my messages go unanswered...when I even know that they received the messages. Sadly, this recruiter is like most. They are all smiles and seemingly friendly to you when they can monetize your experience. But when something happens, like having to suddenly cancel and interview with a very good reason, it seems that they become offended and no longer want anything to do with you. It seems that personal life events are a burden to them. In my honest opinion, recruiters are like a cancer. They pervade the job seeker market. They seem to be everywhere, growing and consuming as they go. If you are one of the few that landed a job with the, you are one of the lucky ones. I hope everything goes well for you. It's too bad that so many companies rely on job recruiters to find amazing, talented people. We're out there. I don't think you need recruiters to find them.
