Popped into Manhattan Cafe for a quick bite to eat and some coffee on a Saturday morning. It wasn't very busy which made for a pleasant experience. When you walk in you see a delectable salad bar and a eye-catching line up of donuts. They had me at this point! The staff was extremely friendly and the ambiance was very casual. I had the breakfast burrito, and it was good. My family also tried the veggie omelette, which was also fantastic. But the highlight was of course the donuts, we tried 3 of them (classic, cinnamon sugar and cereal) and each was dense and not too sweet. Loved em! Saturday brunch spots are hard to find, so add this place to your list. Just one constructive thought, perhaps they can add milk and hot chocolate to their drink menu. My husband + I are in town for our anniversary and we love walking around finding new places. We are soooo glad we stopped in! I ordered the Bacon, Egg + Cheese sandwich on a croissant and he ordered the Breakfast Burrito. We almost swallowed our meals while they were so good! My husband didn't speak while he ate other than a grunt of approval. I am outraged. This place should get sued for false advertising. The place is called Manhattan Cafe, but it does not come with over-priced food, rude service, or that funky smelling steam that comes from NYC street grating during winter. And get this - it's nowhere near Manhattan. It's in the heart of downtown Raleigh across from Clyde Cooper's on Wilmington at Davie. This is no hip Soho cafe with punishing crowds that ensure you never get a seat. Nope. Busy, but completely sane filled with normal, polite Raleighites enjoying kick-ass salads, fresh made-to-order sandwiches, soups, paninis, and other goodies. Aha! But the bushy-haired guys working here look like they could be hipsters or have a snarky remark chambered. But nooooooo. These guys looked me in the eye, smiled, wished me a good day, and made sure my order was exactly what I wanted. I was forced to jam dollar bills into the tip jar because of their stupidly exceptional service. Wait. I see graffiti! At last, a taste of the Big Apple. The Prosciutto de Parma is my favorite, with the second being the smoked turkey and Frech Brie. I wish they used heartier bread for the second one, but still really good.
