The evening of our visit, there was entertainment. An amazing crooner singing Frank Sinatra songs created a wonderful atmosphere. The service, food and ambiance were a great value. We recently came here again and had an experience quite opposite of our first. While I understand being busy on a weekend, we were told when walking in that they didn't know how long it would be for a wait for the table. The person who greeted us at the door was frantically looking around to see what was available. At this point we should have taken this as a warning to go elsewhere but they were somehow able to find a table for us. There were another couple that came in after us that were told the wait for table would be well over 30 minutes! We were seated and the waiting began. The service provided was extremely slow, which seemed unlike when we had been here before. Looking around it seemed like the staff was preoccupied with other tables but never really checked in on us. No one came back to fill up our water or even ask if we wanted more bread. We waited probably close to 30 minutes from the time we ordered to when we received our food. Tables that had been sat after us with larger parties were getting their food before us. When we did get our food, the dish ware was cold. While the food itself was warm, being served on a cold plate made us unsure of the temperature and safety of the food. Both myself and another member of our party got a chicken and pasta dish, which we thought were supposed to be more different, but were almost identical. Not a huge deal, but just wish the menu was more clear about the the item descriptions. When done eating we had asked for a to go container, and the boxes we were given didn't close all the way. We weren't given a bag until asked either. Had we not asked for a box, the food would have most definitely spilled out on our way home. After this experience I would not come back, nor would I recommend it to others. It's extremely unfortunate because the food was good but the quality of service was completely lacking. I felt as if our table was forgotten about most of the evening, which again is extremely unfortunate, and not at all how a guest should feel when dining out at a table service restaurant. read more

My wife and I went to Mangia for dinner tonight around 7:30pm and waited for 5 minutes for someone to show up to the hostess area. When she finally showed up, a white young lady with crappy attitude, I asked her for a table for two and she said there is nothing available except for the bar. When we went to the bar, there was one chair available, but we noticed that there was one table available outside and in the front area, anyhow, at this point we turned around and left the place. What was upsetting to me about this first experience at Mangia, was the hostess lack of customer service skills when she didn't even offer my wife and I options as to wait for a table or something, she only referred us to a bar that was already full. Decided to try Mangia after seeing raving reviews on neighborhood Facebook pages and I am NOT disappointed! I ordered to go so I can't comment on dining in but even taking it to go was absolutely delicious. The food was hot and you can tell it is freshly made. The flavors are there and this certainly isn't Olive Garden! The pastas I tried were the chicken parmigiana with parpadelle pasta and the pasta boscaiola. Everything was super flavorful yet light. This place was packed for a Thursday night. We were seated quick. The service was great the waitress was fast as she could be because there were not enough waitresses there. However, the food was delicious and large portions as well. To my surprise I really enjoyed the atmosphere, very chic and a vibe for Italy. The place is not too big just right for a more personal dinner time. The bread was enjoyed with the dipping they provided. The price is reasonable. Overall glad I ran into this place. Mangia is a relatively new restaurant in the Avalon Park neighborhood of Orlando, Florida. It is so new in fact, that it does not even have a permanent sign. However,I have to say that this restaurant is off to a wonderful start. For this visit, I had my order to go and went with the Pasta Boscaiola, a wonderful dish of egg pappardelle pasta with sausage and mushrooms in a creamy white sauce and topped with truffle oil. It was truly a wonderful meal. We also had the Linguine Vongole, better known here in this country by the translation of linguine with clam sauce. Another wonderful dish that was loaded with class. It also came with bread. The staff was friendly and they proudly told me that they were from Naples and they are obviously and rightfully proud of their food. I found out about this plate a few weeks ago while I was looking for a restaurant that serves good risotto since I don't want to spend 45' to be waited for a table at Cooper's Hawk. Servers were friendly, funny & helpful; great service, best team After explained about the menu, we ordered mushroom risotto w/ grilled lamb chops, lobster ravioli & stuffed mushrooms for appetizer. - Appetizer was delicious & it was recommended by our waiter. Excellent!!! - Lobster ravioli tasted awesome, hot & umami. - Risotto. Not the best one that I had ever tried, but good enough. One thing that I would prefer if the mushroom in the risotto could be a bit smaller (it's just me). The lamb chops came in medium rare which is exactly how we want it to be, but sadly it tasted bitter. Overall, I think this is a great place for Italian food fan. Just a bit disappoint on the lamb chops, it's funny because it was the main reason for us to come try this place, but also the only reason that I couldn't make it 5 stars. You might recognize the restaurants name MANGIA as it used to be located in Waterford Lakes. While the location has changed, the great service and scrumptious food have not. The Avalon Park location (across from the Marketplace) allows for much more seating than their previous spot. But reservations are highly recommended. While there are tables available for walk ins, their weekend reservations can book as early as Tuesday. Having tried all the other pasta places in and around Avalon/Waterford, I have to say this one had the best-tasting and most authentically Italian food. It's "Italian Italian" here not "Florida Italian" which seems to satisfy only boomers whose taste buds have disappeared. If you're from someplace that has real Italian food -- like a New York or New Jersey -- this joint can definitely compete on that level. The ambiance and vibe inside were nice although I only went inside to pick up my to-go order. I look forward to dining in someday soon. Why four stars instead of five? Well, the entree did not come with ANY bread, soup or salad. To my knowledge this is the first Italian restaurant out of hundreds I've visited in my life to not include at least one of those items with the price of an entree. Typically all entrees come with bread and either a choice of soup or salad. Mangia gives you none of the above, which made the price point of $19 a bit more difficult to swallow. It's possible bread is included when you dine in, but it's proper to include some pieces for takeaway customers as well. The waiter was such a friendly and welcoming person. My husband placed an order for chicken marsala and my friend ordered the mushroom ravioli and I got the puttanesca. Each has its own unique flavor. Delicious in their own way. The sauces stick to the pasta and the flavors of each one, absolutely amazing! An authentic Italian restaurant with great service -- our server is the son of the owner, who moved their entire family from Napoli, Italy almost 20 years ago, bringing rich recipes and cuisines with them. My fettuccine bolognese was good -- however, they perhaps went a little too hard on the peas. I heard some good things about this place and decided to try it. We were greeted at the door and seated. The dining area has a warm welcoming atmosphere like home. I had the chicken piccata and my guest had the chicken franchese, both were delicious. The portions were very good the prices were reasonable and the service was impeccable. This is one of those times that I'm really glad I have Yelp, and that it directed me to Mangia. A group of us were getting together for dinner and we really wanted good, homemade italian food without having to drive all the way to Winter Park or pay an arm and a leg for it, and so that's when I pulled out yelp and read everyone's amazing reviews about Mangia. A super, friendly, family is running this cute and elegant restaurant. We were informed that all the wines on the menu were shipped exclusively from Italy, so I ordered the cabernet. Not dry, but not sweet, always what I look for in a red. Ordered a small salad and it came with so many goodies, and a steal for the price. Little burrata balls, an assortment of olives, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, on a bed of arugula. For our entrees we ordered the Salmon a la vodka, eggplant parm, and the mushroom ravioli. We set the plates in the middle of the table and everyone was able to get what they wanted. They were all really good! Also, ask your server what pasta was made fresh that day, yes, they make it fresh in house. My favorite though was the mushroom ravioli. If you love mushrooms, and love truffles, this dish will amaze you. So rich, and flavorful, that hint of truffle in the background, definitely one I recommend. The eggplant parm was spectacular as well, they stuff the eggplant with cheese and don't over-bread the eggplant. On a side note, I appreciated that our dishes were not salty. You know how a lot of times you go out to a restaurant and inevitably the food will be laden with sodium. That didn't happen here, which I was grateful for. One seafood risotto special, gluten free fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, fettuccini bolognese, carbonara, made with bacon not ham and peas different regions for carbonara and pasta with vodka sauce. Three people did order one of the specials tonight which was rigatoni with zucchini fresh burrata and a red sauce they absolutely loved it. Let me tell you I'm a picky gal when it comes to red sauce. We waited a decent while for the appetizer, and during that time we were supposed to get bread. However, none came. Once the appetizer came, we realized we had no silverware either. We had to ask for both. Even after that, the service was quite slow and we were not checked on enough. My husband's water cup became empty and we again had to ask the waiter for water. We ended up talking to the manager and we were given a free desert for the trouble. Poor waiter got quite the talking to from what we saw. As for the food, my husband loved his linguine with clams. After a game at UCF the family wanted Italian. After some searching in area we rolled the dice and came to Mangia. From outside the place looked dead but once we opened the door we saw the place was packed. Wait about 40 mins and it was worth the wait! Food was excellent! It is open in the previous Lil Anthony spot. Bonus is for us, 3min from our home!! Since we had a party of six, I called to make reservations and to advise that we were celebrating a birthday. I don't think it was needed on a Tuesday night because there really is plenty of seating, but for a weekend, it's best to check. When we arrived, the host greeted us and sat us immediately. The booth they reserved felt tight for us all, so they gave us the option of a big table at the center. Worked perfectly. Our server, Tonino, is excellent. We spoke of our love of a certain restaurant in The Bronx where he lived for a while. He took, well everyone here took really good care of us. Attentive, kind, quick to respond to a request. For our apps, we ordered calmari fritti(fried calamari), delicately breaded, perfectly fried, delicious. Burrata wrapped in prosciutto di parma, creamy cheese, salty prosciutto on a bed of fresh arugula with grated gran Padana, amazing. Entrees: lobster ravioli in vodka sauce, shrimp alfredo, chicken francese, chicken marsala, chicken parmigiana and baked zitti. For dessert, we ordered a tiramisu. It was delicious. ALL of these dishes are great. Marsala did need some salt, but nothing else. With every bite, the quality ingredients and expert cookery shine through. The portions are equally grand. BUT the outstanding dishes of the evening were the lobster ravioli and the shrimp alfredo. The sauces of both of these dishes were the creamiest, velvetiest, most rich I have ever tasted, and the pasta itself must be made in-house because, my Lord, amazing. We were immediately served ice water as soon as we were sat and moments later bread service arrived. The menu did cater to my family's vegetarian diet (as some places use chicken or pork fat in their sauces) our server made sure to help us with the menu as to stick to our dietary restriction. We started with the margarita pizza as an appetizer and it was huge!! The sauce was Delicious and tasted like it was made fresh(it was) and the thickness of the crust was perfect. I had the mushroom ravioli for my main and it did not disappoint. My parents had the eggplant parmigiana and it could easily feed the two of them. It was a crowd pleaser. Never in a million years did I expect to say that about this place based on it being a tiny joint in a super boring strip mall. An Italian restaurant without veal is not what' I expect and last time it was so good. This time one of the specials called Rigatoni Norma was amazing. Big pieces of rigatoni with great texture cooked perfectly aldente in the best pomodero sauce I ever had. Rich and tasty tomato sauce with lots of roasted tomatoes and chunks of fried egg plant. Then a big scoop of their rich and creamy Burrata. A unique combination with the cool Burrata on top of the scoop with a melted layer underneath. Large portion so I got to take some home. Service from Tony was excellent. He is attentive and takes time to explain things. Very polite and charming. read more

I had one of my most favorite Italian meals in a long time the other night! Mangia opened at the end of August in the former Lil' Anthony's Pizza spot in Avalon Park. The new space is cozy and welcoming. I ordered: *Stuffed Mushrooms on top of Marsala Sauce *Pasta e Fagioli Soup *Chicken Parmigiana with Fettuccine *Side of Meatballs *Fresh Bread (complementary) All of the food was spectacular, but the chicken parmigiana was a highlight. Perfectly crispy chicken with the right amount of sauce on top and fresh made pasta....excellent! Mangia is owned by the Zuccarone-Russo Family. They immigrated to Orlando from the Bagnoli quarter of Naples, Italy in 2013. Father and son chef duo, Rosario Russo and Gennaro Russo lead the kitchen. Rosario is a member of the esteemed APCI (Association of Professional Italian Chefs), based in Italy. They are passionate about their Italian heritage and want to share their delicious Italian food and fresh made pasta with their guests. I was way too full to try dessert, but on my next visit I will definitely order Anna Zuccarone's homemade Babà Napoletano. It is rare to find this on a dessert menu at an Italian restaurant.
