I called ahead of time and was told that they charge $15 starting off for a KIDS haircut. Ok, that's fine. My daughter requested side layers and the stylist was done in about 5 mins. No wash, nothing. They wanted to charge me $40!!! That's ridiculous!! For a child with thin hair and no wash or blowout? Are you kidding me? I got the price down to $30 and tipped 5. Never going back. You were warned!!

I came here because it isn't a place you might expect "a person like me to visit" and because I liked one of my barbers at beauty school so much that I decided to follow him to whatever shop he was at. They definitely specialize in working with women's hair and locks, but with the addition of Kornell, they certainly can accept male clients with comfortability. So, I knew I was going to get a quality cut. Something about this particular cut was one of my best. I think the following contributed to this: 1. I'm older and appreciate what's around me more. 2. I knew the salonist before. 3. The place was nice and inviting inside. 4. It was one of my best cuts ever I think. 5. I unintentionally fell asleep, but I didn't want to talk much since it's a pandemic and I have a mask on anyway. My salonist was still okay with it. Maybe also because I tend not to get fussy- I make for a great client for beauty schools cause I just like saving money to maintain my hair too. With the pandemic, the beauty schools were closed for awhile when I checked. So, I opted for regular salons. It helped that I had a few pictures for him to choose from before starting. I think it would be a cool feature if when I make the appointment in advance online, if I could attach pictures in a message along with doing the appointment in advance. That could potentially make it easier on the workers rather than having for me to scramble for pics on my phone and then letting them go through that. Which is okay too. If you arrive or can arrive earlier than your appointment last minute, it's best to call in advance to see if it would be helpful for them to have you come in earlier. I know this because I had a distance to go and couldn't predict when I could get there and park exactly. And then I had to use the bathroom and I almost still had to come back for my appointment, but my salonist saw me and said it would be better to take me in at that moment and I was fine with that. So, that's how I know, lol. Cause if they have another client running late, they might still try to accommodate that person even if they have to make that person wait since they were late to their own appointment. The prices for males seem standard for a professional place that offers quality haircuts. Even though they are further out from downtown, because the place inside is cozy and has a nice bathroom, they are able to fairly hold their own with the prices they offer. I could potentially see some people thinking that the prices are a bit high. Most of the reviews of this place are very positive, and I do get the sense they're reading these and that they try to improve from any mistakes from poor reviews that seem like they were fair and well intentioned.

And when my hair breaks it does so down to the new growth so it was extrememly short in several places. It was the kind of damage that makes you not even want to comb your hair and go out. I found the next level hair salon by simplly googling black hair salons in the Philadelphia area. I liked what their website had to say. They advertise this bacstat treatment for the hair that really works. On my first visit I got a pretty short but very nice looking haircut. Fatimah had transformed my thinning head of hair into something chic and stylish. I've been happy ever since! Now only 6 months later my hair is as healthy as it has ever been after being in the worst shape ever only 6 months ago. I highly recommend this salon particularly if you are a black woman who has poblems with hair breakage related to chemical treatment. Try it, you won't be disappointed!

My GPS notified me that I would be late, so I called the salon ahead of time to let the receptionist know. I was told that I might not be able to be seen. I ended up arriving 17 minutes late and was told Sheena could not see me and that I would need to reschedule for the following day. I explained that I live two hours away, so coming back the next day was not a reasonable option. I was then told that if I did not reschedule, I would still be charged, and I was charged $104.What makes this especially frustrating is my last appointment. I waited approximately 30 minutes past my scheduled appointment time before I was serviced. I was understanding and patient, and I certainly wasn't offered a discount or compensation for my time. I understand that salons have policies regarding late arrivals, but I also believe there should be some level of fairness and consideration especially when a client calls ahead to communicate a traffic delay. Expecting clients to respect the stylist's time while showing no flexibility or consideration for the client's time feels like a double standard. After this experience, I cancelled my next two appointments and will not be returning. Sheena's handling of the situation came across as arrogant and dismissive. There are many talented stylists available, and customer service and mutual respect matter just as much as the service itself.
