It's been awhile since I reviewed Mandy's, and a pandemic has been raging, so I think it's time for an update. First, like so many businesses, they are hiring and a bit short staffed. They more than make up for this in the friendliness of their service. And it's Sunday, so I'm not in a hurry anyway. I ordered sausage and eggs, and added cheddar cheese and avocado on the side. It was huge, first, and delicious second. Exactly what I wanted on this lonely Sunday. The eggs were just right, not runny, and the cheese was melty goodness. The sausage tastes like it might be Farmer John; no skimping there! A side of Avo is fully a half an avocado, and I liked that. The hash brands were pretty typical, could have been crispier, but still good. Even the English muffin was extra special, loaded with butter. I enjoy stopping in here when I can! They close at 2pm, so get there early! read more

Aww love this little cafe! It's in southwest Bakersfield, in a large plaza (with lots of parking, so no worries there!). The cafe itself is fairly small but they make good use of their space, with about 8 or so tables, as well as bar seating - while still feeling very open/spacious. What made our experience was the food and staff! Our server was very attentive and pleasant, making sure to check in with us, and remembering small things like no ice or cheese. Very good! Both were made fresh with quality ingredients. Bacon was too fatty, sausage had a good flavor etc and generous portions. I took half my omelette and potatoes home. Hubby got a pancake instead of toast, so we could try them and it was really good too. Only criticism is the the home fried potatoes in the skillet breakfast were undercooked. Hubby said they tasted like they were boiled and needed to be put in the fryer or on the grill to crisp them up and finish cooking them. Still a five star, just an opinion. The Huevos Rancheros were delicious! The best I've found in Bakersfield and one of the best ever. The salsa was good and fresh. The beans were flavorful. The potatoes were so yummy! I will definitely be back! My husband had the California burger and fries which looked really good. The patty was thick and looked like one you would make at home- not frozen. He said it was "ok." This man likes nothing. So being ok with something means it must have been to die for! The restaurant itself is very tiny. There are no full booths. Just a few tables and some tall half booths. But it's very cute. Just a bit awkward. The servers were pleasant. Not friendly, but nice- if that makes sense. The prices were decent. About $10/meal and $3 soda. It's worth a try :) read more

Waited for over an hour for food. There were 2 tables ahead of us and took that long for the second table to get their food, we didn't get our food and we walk out of the restaurant. The restaurant has one person cooking and two waitresses standing around not doing much. The cook was using a towel wiping off eggs on a plate and hand picking something on a stake ham. The bathrooms are a mess . Not very appealing to eat here after this experience. read more

It was my first time trying Mandy's Cafe and I ordered huevos rancheros, home fries and chilaquiles. I gave 4 stars because of home fries although overall experience was kinda underwhelming because I was expecting same great Mexican food I get around Bakersfield. Home fries need to be lil bit more crispy and it's missing that. I requested them to be crispy and well cooked but I guess that request was not granted. They taste like sautéed potatoes and not that good. Huevos Rancheros were ok but it would be a great dish if the eggs were atleast over medium. Runny yolk will make the whole thing taste so much better. Chilaquiles were great and as expected and it was well-sauced (yes that's a word) Refried beans are definitely one of the best in terms of taste and texture. read more

Attentive and friendly service. Food came out fairly fast and was nicely presented. All plates were fresh and hearty. Most places offer chicken fried steak with oil dripping and salty enough to give you an instant case of hypertension. This is certainly not the case here. The chicken fried steak was nicely breaded and paired well with the gravy which wasn't too heavy at all. The gravy was a bit lacking in flavor, nothing a little Tabasco can't fix. The restaurant has a modern chic and minimalist vibe, making the small space roomy and comfortable for causal dining. Definitely a solid option for a satisfying lunch/brunch. read more

Very nice tucked away breakfast spot! Very cozy feel inside. Not very busy and got my food quickly. I got the chorizo skillet with sourdough (gotta get sourdough yo!) Low key and a little quiet. The radio wasn't blasting so it was easy to hear. The waitress (not Mandy!) Was very attentive to my water needs. There is some cute decorations to look at and could be a conversation starter. I thought I was special being offered the option to sit wherever I want until I heard others offered the same thing which is cool I GUESS. Let me start off by saying I'm not from the area and have been visiting the past 3 weeks back and forth from LA and have had a difficult time really good spots to eat out here. I'm sadden that on my last day out here I found this amazing place. I see a lot of bad reviews on "tasteless" food, I don't know what happened there but my Egg Benny was amazing. It is on the slight saltier side but it's made with chorizo, it's a saltier type of meat so it was expected. I ordered avocado on the side to balance out the salt, perfect blend. The hollandaise sauce was sooooooo good. The home fries were made perfectly to my liking not too soft lightly crisped. I didn't even use ketchup I just dipped it in the extra hollandaise. The staff was very friendly and made me feel welcome. If I'm ever in the area again I will definitely be coming back. read more

So I woke up this morning craving pancakes and one , I did not want to make them and two , I did not want to drive far. So Mandys came to mind and I've been wanting to try them out. My wife called ahead and they put us on the wait list. When we arrived the place is really small and busy so waited for about 10mins or so to get a table that would seat 7 of us. We got sat down and were attended to quick, our drink orders came fast and our server was friendly. We proceeded to order I of course got the pancakes , my wife had the the munch , a biscuit with a chicken tender and cheddar cheese smothered in gravy , my daughter had waffle with starwberry's and whipped cream , my other daughter had the bacon guacamole grilled cheese and my son had the western burger. Everything came out in a timely manner and hot , considering that they got even busier while we waited. Overall the service was good the food was great and I always like supporting the mom and pops restaurants in town whenever I can. My only complaint is that the place is kinda small and could be challenging if you come in with a big party, and pancakes could have been a bit more moist with that little crispiness on top not so much that " shiny " look on them, but that's just a personal preference. We will definitely be back and be giving the ribeye breakfast a try cause I saw a few of those coming out and they looked amazing! read more

So-Cal inspired, creative menu, fresh ingredients, fair pricing. Menu layout clean and straightforward, sandwich board with specials on the patio invites guests inside and chalkboard with specials greets guests as they enter. Skillet scrambled eggs were overdone, but still a good meal overall. Service: Okay, here we go... My table arrived around 730am on a Saturday morning. We had three adults and two little kids in our party. There may have been one other guest inside, but no one other than that. 730am is a little ambitious for most people on a Saturday morning, so it certainly wasn't busy. From the moment we arrived, I had to cue our server for basically everything. I had to ask for a high chair for the baby. We weren't asked for our drink order after seating ourselves, so I ordered drinks. Zero conversation or even an introduction from our server. This was our first time here, so it would have been nice to be informed of things like if the full menu was being served or that the kids' menu is listed on the main menu (no separate sheet) and does not include a drink. I ordered a dish that includes eggs, but wasn't asked how I'd like the eggs cooked. I didn't even think about it and ended up with an egg over easy, which I had to send back to be cooked through. I could have specified upon ordering, but didn't even think about it as I was wrangling the kids. Would have been wonderful if the server had asked my preference or informed that the default egg style is "over easy". I had to ask for side plates and napkins (we were only given three silverware rolls initially, no extra napkins). I had to ask for coffee refills. I had to pick up the kids and go inside to ask for the check after over an hour at the table (we had clearly been finished with our meal for a while). The server asked if we needed the check split, which we did, so then we waited another 10+ minutes for the checks to arrive. While we waited, I pre-bussed my own table because the entire time we'd be there (nearly an hour and a half by this time), our server never once cleared a single item. *Sigh...* I REALLY want to love this place. Local business, near my house, good food, great atmosphere. This could 100% be my go-to spot. Even with good atmosphere and food, the pathetic service absolutely killed the dining experience for me. I'll give Mandy's Cafe one more shot. But unless the service improves drastically, I won't be back after that. read more

Mandy's was something I stumbled upon while using Door dash. I was craving Mexican food and breakfast and decided to take a leap and order huevos rancheros for the first time ever. It was amazingly good! I couldn't believe that the Mexican food from this place tasted excellent. Ever since then I've started ordering from them mainly for breakfast, until last week I tried their sandwiches. Incredible. They were delicious! Walked in on a Sunday for breakfast. This place is very small. Ordered biscuits and gravy combo, cautious it doesn't come with the bread or the sides/hash browns/fruit like the section says it's just biscuit, sausage and eggs. My husband ordered the polish sausage combo. The waitress delivered a scramble said nothing and walked away from the table, when she came back with the rest of the order we advised her it didn't belong to us. She said okay picked the food up off the table and handed it to the people at the table behind us. I know I didn't touch the food but I would not have wanted to have the food delivered to my table like she did, she didn't even tell them she put it on a different table and give them the option to have it remade. When our food showed up again she dropped it off and walked away never saying a word to us. My biscuits seemed kind of rubbery, the gravy was very good and had large chunks of sausage. The sausage that came with my meal was very tasty. My eggs I ordered over medium and the whites were runny and the yellow was hard. My husband ordered his eggs scrambled and was happy with his order the fresh fruit was wonderful it was strawberries bananas and grapes. I used the restroom it's a non-gender restroom everything appeared relatively clean except for the dead cockroach in the corner. Based on the looks of the bathroom I would assume they did it as low budget as possible. Don't even try to use the blow dryer it's not worth it and there's no paper towel. I think the waitress was the worst part. I will give it one more chance and hope it gets better. read more

I've seen Mandy's restaurant when I would search for breakfast spots. We were in the area so wife and I stopped to try it. The restaurant is kinda small but cozy. It has a long counter that could seat 7-8 people. It has a trendy/modern feel but keeping it simple. I got the Chorizo Skillet with side of Salsa and the plate was gooood! The portion was a decent amount. The egg and chorizo was well scrambled and well proportioned. The wife got the Hobo Omelet but she requested egg whites. What made her plate good, was they actually used eggs and they separated the yolk. Her plate had pieces of sausage mixed in and they were very tasty. She enjoyed her plate. They had two servers taking care of everyone. Not to many folks so they were able to handle it. The only knock I have is the restaurant was real warm. My wife liked it but she's always cold. I was starting to sweat as I drank my hot coffee and ate my food. I think they saw me fanning myself and then the A/C was kicked on but by then we were done. I have nothing negative to say. Came in, ordered food, food was hot, enjoyed our meals and we left. We will be returning again in the near future. read more

New breakfast spot near me...yay! Convinced a friend to go with me before work today. Small, unassuming place next to the Dollar Tree. Sign outside had a corned beef hash special, I think it was $9. Sign on the door had $7 special for two of everything...pancakes, eggs, bacon and sausage. Wow! We were greeted right away and got to choose our seats. We ordered coffee and water and checked out the menu. Good coffee. My friend decided on the $7 special. I chose the hash brown melt, no onions, with bacon and a biscuit and gravy. Food arrived. Everything was good. The hash brown melt was huge! It had melted cheddar cheese and bacon inside. I ordered a biscuit and gravy because I knew all those potatoes needed was a little gravy. Wish the hash browns had been crispier though. Gravy had really good flavor and the biscuit was nice and moist. That gravy added to the hash browns...omg! My friend devoured his breakfast. I was only able to eat a third of my hash browns and I felt guilty about leaving so much on my plate. Service was great! We were checked on frequently. Drinks were refilled often. Staff was so nice!
