I simply adore these types of stores and therefore Eclat is no exception. For a reasonable price they have some gorgeous items which could be placed around the home or given to someone as a lovely gift. There are plenty of different types of things to choose from, some which will look great in the kids bedroom or some which will look great in the garden. There are some lovely candles which make the store smell divine, which is always an important factor to me when it comes to these stores. This store is on two different "levels" (in other words there are a couple steps in the middle of the store to get to the counter), so be careful of your step. It's easy to get distracted by all the items for sale and to miss your step! Even though I was in Eclat for a little while browsing, the lady at the counter never asked me if I was looking for anything in particular. This necessarily is not a bad thing in my mind because I like browsing to myself and if I need help, I'll ask for it. Though there may be some who think this irritating and rude. I didn't get that vibe.

It is heavily French influenced - pronounced ek-la, Eclat means "the brilliance of the sun", "the radiance of a smile", "the sparkle of diamonds". The building is reminiscent of Parisian architecture, and the things they sell are so impeccably stylish you would have no trouble believing they were French. Inside, you will find a range of eclectic furniture, gifts, cushions, throws, crockery, tableware, rugs, mirrors, lighting, and a range of interesting wall art. It's a really cute place, even if you're not into that sort of stuff, you might find it handy when it comes to buying gifts!

Places like this have a real charm about them. The prices are reasonable for older novella, discount book bins have good finds, and the newer releases are on par with other bookstores. There's a wonderful selection of Australian authors to pursue. Malouf and Lawson etc. I'm a fan of the laconic works in the Australian literary works. It's a great place to browse or search for obscure literature. Talk to Joan or Peter if you're looking for something specific.

Now located a few shops down the Regent Arcade from their Renew Adelaide pop-up, the store has settled in and the Arcade's vibe suits it well. Stocking the hand poured Zuki & Boo soy candles in some truly delectable scents, this is my primary reason for swinging by. I'm a real lover of a 'natural' smelling candle (as opposed to the saccharine qualities many other scented candles give off) and this stock is top notch. Available is different glass jar sizes and also available poured in a tea cup (with the saucer to match), they make great presents for yourself or others. My current fave is Bergamot & Banksia but the Coffee Bean is just right to get your day started (I work night shift so burning candles after waking is perfectly acceptable at 6pm!). Check the candle 'menu' for some potential favourites and the staff can let you know when they become available (or pour some for you). The store also has a beautiful array of posies and floral arrangements with the ladies happy to create a floral arrangement to your colour palette or floral taste for an excellent price, however I can never go past the gorgeous bouquets often sitting in the store front (and often so cheap!). Succulents at various stages of growth and in an array of pots plus terrariums can be picked up and once again, all very reasonably priced. Enter Boo & Who?? on one unassuming Wednesday when I thought I was just going for a coffee in town. Exit a happy Chloe with a candle that smelt like waffles, a postcard and bookmark with a hilarious hedgehog drawn on it and a longing for that ridiculous looking brass teapot with a succulent in it that I knew I couldn't keep alive for more then 2 days. These guys know how to do gift shop: - Service is friendly but not pushy - The selection of cards, flowers, candles and body lotions are well balanced and mean the shop isn't cluttered with too much to select from - Prices are ridiculously good for those on a budget of $10-50 (ie. for those workmates who you have to give a gift to through to good friends you love) I hope this Renew Adelaide venture is able to stay on and continue to brighten up Regent Arcade in the future!

I was originally attracted to the big spiders for hanging on the wall, because they are kind of unusual and not so real they'd freak you out; upon closer inspection the shop is crammed full of all sorts of really wonderful odds and sods. Bangles, beads, book ends, wall hangings, candle sticks, sarongs, bags, a few baskets; all pretty much imported stuff from all over the place. Not too expensive and a great variety of things. African carvings and probably Indonesian, Indian, some Australian as well, I've been in several time and still see stuff I didn't notice the first and last time, if you get what I mean. It is a family business (as in wife and husband), so you can rely on them if you are looking for something unusual to help you out - they know their stock pretty well and since so much of it is wood they do a fair amount of polishing and keeping things fresh. I really like wood so I really enjoy having a look through this shop. Some items are quite small and then they vary in size through to really large features objects like elephants and giraffes. Its fun browsing and hard to visit without seeing something you want to take home, so be warned!

A few of their artworks are actually more modern than the rest of the overall concept of the store, which I thought is a nice addition to the more conservative furniture. Everything they sell goes well together, so if you're planning on redecorating your entire lounge, for example, you'll definitely find the mirror that matches the table and a nice painting that fits inbetween. The majority of the items here are either scratch and dent, demos or simply the previous model, not that there's anything wrong with that, check where the marks are on the item and if they're not going to be visible, then why not. With these particular items it just means the store cannot sell items which are not in peak cosmetic condition. As an example which is two years old but none the less, I done some research on which TV was going to be the best for us, good quality and had the features we wanted...so we settled on a Toshiba Regza 46". I can't remember the exact amounts paid but I can tell you the difference between buying it new from a department store and new from HV outlet was $1000, as it was the model just finished and HV was making room for the next in coming model that's the reason it was at their factory outlet. That's it...we saved $1000, got full warranty, wasn't a scratch n dent and it's still going strong, best investment. It also had alot to do with being in the right place at the right time, all the stars aligned and all that jazz. Hint: Do you research online, read blogs, get specs, etc and then look for where it is for viewing, how much it costs, take into account a small portion of what the sales people tell you as they get brownie points for sales, then add it all up in the end, because it's your money and your decision not theirs. You go in there and tell the guys what you need and they show you items that might be a bit less than perfect. The great thing is that quite often, there's the tiniest of dents or scratches which is stopping them from being sold in the normal shops. The way to shop here is to go to the regular HN stores, find something you want, look at where it is going in your house and know which surfaces are not important. For example, our fridge will be against a wall on its left side, so I could have bought one with a huge scratch on that side. I ended up getting a brand new Fisher and Paykel fridge and washing machine with a hefty discount. Also, they offer an extended warranty and delivery. The fridge has a tiny dent on the front which you can barely see and the washing machine has a scratch on the side, but as it's being built in, it won't be seen. They also have TV's, coffee machines, washing machines, cooktops and ovens, heaters, air conditioners and more. Definitely worth checking out. Also, all the items are tested to check that they still work fine.

On that occasion I also bought a rhinestone skull patch which I am not sure what I will use it for, but whatever the lucky garment that uses it, you can bet it will be the better for it. Items out of display cases are extremely affordable, so if an item of clothing is missing that something special, tweak it with a pretty patch or button. Within the display classes are thousands of rhinestoned and sparkly jewels to bling you up massive. The bling is a bit more expensive, but as I said, where else are you going to get it?
