Man with a Van - no man by any other name will move me again. Without a doubt, by far my favourite moving company in Melbourne. In the past, I'd balked at the idea of getting some unfamiliar men in a truck to come to my house and get involved with moving my things. Then I came across these guys. From first phone call to MWAV, right through to last box and bidding farewell to these dynamic dab hands in their iconic trucks, I've always thoroughly enjoy the experience. My most recent move, a mad dash out of an ex boyfriend's house, could have been a devastatingly distressing departure, but thanks to these guys it wasn't! Calculating the size and weight of things, such as trucks and number of men required, was well beyond my capabilities at that time. However, the booking procedure at MWAV is so simple, even the most emotionally distraught monkey on the move could manage it. The bright and good humoured man I spoke to on the phone took the time to talk through how I could get the best deal for me and in the end the time and cost came in under the estimated quote. When moving day came, two charming gentlemen arrived ahead of schedule (they called me beforehand to check it was okay, of course) and all that was left for me to do was stand back and admire the 3D game of Tetris in action. The inner city of Melbourne would be a lot more broke if Man with a Van hadn't appeared on the scene some 10 years ago. I remember the one time I didn't use them was when I was 19 and moving a girlfriend. 2 boxes and a chest and they turned up with a truck that almost filled the street. The guys were rude, took ages and then charged $130 to move it within the suburb. I've used MWAV 6 times since then and every time their staff have been delightful, witty, ruthlessly efficient and super helpful when it came to the idiosyncrasies of that move (and every move has its annoying quirks). There usually musos, actors, writers, graphic designers, or just down to earth dudes who keep the banter going while getting the move down with focus of a tetris master. They take the stress out of it all, it feels like you're getting moved some non-complaining friends. It works out cheaper than you expect, well except once, but that was my fault for forgetting I had some furniture items in the shed. They're a local business, so it's been good watching them grow over the years, it just seem to be a handful of guys when i first used them now they seem to have about a bizzilion trucks and there appear to be a few other companies replicating the small moves business model they pioneered. Literally had to move my half-an-apartment worth of stuff two blocks down and one block over from where it was. Initially I enlisted my dad and a ute to help, but as he'd had stitches on his wrist the day before, it wasn't long before he said enough was enough. Walking from the old place to the new place, feeling dejected I caught myself thinking, "If only there was some kind of removalist company that had little trucks available for just a short while..." Duh! Man With a Van! I gave them a call around 10am and asked if it would be possible to do a load for me in the afternoon. They said not a problem, is 3pm okay? Might be as early as 2.30? I said yep! Then the lovely gent driving my van called me a few hours later to say he was running early and would 1.15pm be okay? I said absolutely and within an hour we'd managed to pack the van very full (tetris!) pop over to the new place and unload it all in a jiffy. Awesome service, thanks :) read more

i was doing a bit more research this time around after previously going the cheaper option and dealing with grumpy removalists. After checking out the reviews i decided between man with a van and the friendly moving men. The friendly moving men were not going to charge the 15mins before and after travel time because of the proximity to my suburb. Getting an idea of timing to complete the move seemed a bit iffy and that was the difference. After contacting man with a van, whilst they wouldnt waive the travel cost (thought i'd try my luck), they were a lot more confident with how it was all going to run + the pricing. Chris & Lachie turned up 15mins early which was great. I think i mentioned once what had to be moved and they just went about it and made the whole process actually fun. We had a few awkward items which they dealt with extreme care. They were also careful not to run over time. Will 100% use Man with a van next time. read more

We are so glad that we trusted our gut and avoided the cheaper options around and went with a more reputable and well reviewed option in MWAV. The booking process was very easy and our removal team on the day (Marnie and Mitch) were awesome and went above and beyond all expectations. We had settlement issues which resulted in not being able to get our keys on move day and the guys worked with their office team to make arrangements to remove an extra stress off us in a very stressful time with other things happening. The entire team has been super accommodating to our ongoing changing situations, in a week where nothing else has gone well or to plan, these guys have been incredible and super professional to deal with. There's just something about a couple of easy on the eye guys showing up to do something that you don't want to - and doing it quickly, and well - that ticks boxes. I'm the cheapest SOB alive. I tried to book a Gumtree mover, and I was packed and sitting on my empty bedroom floor for an hour, then two. When the guy just stopped answering his phone, I realised the true value of the extra, what, $30? MWAV swooped in and did the job like a SWAT team (with a friendlier disposition). They also drove me to my new house. And complimented me on my furniture. And didn't look at the canvases upon which I had at some point unleashed some emotion. Which I appreciate. I needed a quick, last minute transfer of two big appliances from the very outer edge of zone 2 all the way to Caulfield. Given a taxi home after a night out in the city costs ~$120, and that's if they agree to come out all this way, I was delighted that my experience with Man With A Van cost only $50 extra, and that there was no extra fee given I live out of metro zoning (I've experienced this with IKEA before). The flat per hour fee worked out quite economically as I only needed to move two bulky appliances, and the charming man who came (right on time) had them both loaded up quick smart and was off within less than 15 minutes of arriving. I would definitely use them again when I move out next year. read more

Both guys (who both lived up to the reputation for guys from MWAV being cute!) introduced themselves politely when they arrived and immediately set to work moving my furniture. This service was terrific! Very reasonably priced considering the efficiency with which everyone works. This is my second time using Man With A Van so I already knew they we're good. This time my two men managed to carry everything up three flights of narrow-ish stairs and did so while remaining friendly, efficient and very careful with what they we're handling! We moved to a new studio the other day. Which was exciting in one way, fresh start etc etc, but hideous in another - the very idea of moving all those badly packed (my fault), heavy cardboard boxes put my head in a spin. Amazing service from these guys throughout the whole process from enquiry to booking to the actual move. Not only did they show up a bit early, they phoned first to check if it was OK if they showed up early. They were friendly, careful with my stuff and incredibly efficient. I was very pleased with nearly all aspects of the job. The guys were fast to load, fast to unload. The price was very reasonable in the end. Only a few minor issues, to read the labels on the boxes, some needed to be stored a certain way up. The booking process was good overall, I think best to ring and discuss the job, rather than try and do any over email. I emailed an itinerary of items and got a much higher quote than the job ended up being. Will definitely use you guys again. read more
