This place has been on my list for awhile because my friend always raves about it. "They bring you free food with aperitivo! And limoncello after the meal!"
Well, they didn't. And that's fine, of course. But I suppose I was bound to be disappointed after the overhyping.
The pizzas are very good with excellent ingredients. They don't use a base of sauce or cream. just fine ingredients directly on the dough. And no one had any complaints, except that they were difficult to cut.
But I my jaw dropped when I opened the menu and saw that the prices were 13-21€ per pizza (most of them are on the upper end of that range, it seemed). I suppose it's not outrageous considering the quality of the ingredients (hello designer pizzas) but that plus the seeming lack of affordable wine did put a damper on things.
The high point of the meal was the bread brought to us before the meal. That sounds like a put down, but it's not - this bread was exquisite. Slightly warm, slightly cheesy - I wish I could eat it every day. (But it's probably for the best that I can't or I would surely overindulge with disastrous results.)
When we were getting ready to leave, there was a strong smell of wet dog, and I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. My neighbor's coat? My feet? No, it was the wet dog downstairs. I am not sure if he belonged to the diners or the restaurant, but he made his presence known.
If you're not on a budget, this would be a fabulous place for Italian cocktails (Spritz! Bellini! Aperol!) And it can't be denied that their pizzas are delicious. You may want to marry the bread after a few Italian cocktails.
But I am on a budget, and I don't have current plans to return. read more
