But we took the opportunity for a nice evening out after a great day exploring the surrounding countryside and went to this amazing place in Norfolk Street. (I think they relocated there earlier this year from Church Street.) My cousin and her boyfriend have been there a few times before and they absolutely adored it. The place is run by an Italian couple and the husband was managing the front of house and the wife runs the kitchen. It was booked fully for the evening, but we promised to "only" take an hour for our meal and got a table, as the bookings for it only started an hour later. It may helped that the boyfriend speaks Italian and that they recognized him from his last visit ... but I believe that they are just nice and would have done it anyway. If you want to have a seat on a Saturday evening I would highly recommend to book in advance as I was told the place is always busy. or visit during lunch hours ... The food was lovely. It had great flavours and was really nicely presented ... not always easy with messy Italian food. Don't get me wrong: it wasn't fine dining - just really nice Italian dishes with just the right portion size, so one could enjoy dessert without feeling stuffed.

We went with friends on Saturday night, we all had starters, main courses (two of which were steaks) washed down with two bottles of white wine and a half litre of red (mine!) and it came in at £80, which for four people for a big dinner, of a brilliant standard, is very reasonable. There are the usual choices of pasta and pizza, and also numerous specials which are constantly changing. There is plenty to please all tastes. This is not a swanky, poncy Italian, go round the corner to Nonna's if that's what you're after. It's much more authentic and more like the sort of place you might discover on holiday in Italy.

As with most Italian places (for my taste anyway) - the highlight of the menu is in the starters - with some great cured meats and cheeses. Prices are fair, though if they reduced them just a little they may see a big increase in business.

Taking a seat at a small square table a waitress took our drinks order and left us to browse. Before she departed she made sure to mention the daily specials were which gnocchi and ricotta cheese and spinach canaloni. The menu had a nice variety of Italian basics, to start I had the garlic mushrooms and a seafood spaghetti. My friend had the garlic bread and ricotta special. My mushrooms were perfectly garlicy with the right amount of seasoning. The waitress offered to sprinkle cheese ok top..yes please! The mains also arrived with great presentation and mine had plenty of seafood. Everything tasted fresh, including the homemade pasta. After snaffling these perfect portions we ended the meal with a passion fruit cheesecake and tis Maria coffee. Overall this is a quaint Italian , with basic decor and close knit staff. The prices were a little steep but really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. You might want to book for a evening or Friday, Saturday night however!
