Flavor of every thing was amazing! I just wish the bacon in the green beans was optional- I came here around 6:15 and waited about 35 minutes to get sides because I don't eat meat.. they were out of more than 2 things I wanted like greens & peach cobbler. This is my 3rd try at getting decent soul food in San Antonio and this is the 3rd fail. I'm starting to think San Antonio doesn't have good bbq or good soul food I ordered the 3 meat combo via yelp. I only received 2 meats Fried chicken: unseasoned and looked like popeye's (not a compliment) Baked chicken: don't know because they didn't put it in my order Fish: unseasoned, but at least over or undercooked Candied yams: a little sweet for my tastes but not horrible Mashed potatoes: you can tell they come from a box. No salt, no pepper, no butter...flavorless box potatoes Mac&cheese: it had flavor but it was literally soup. So much juice...which I've never known mac & cheese to have juice Cornbread: sad and flavorless, but at least not dry The fact that this place has good reviews tells me that the taste buds in San Antonio are dead. read more

I want to personally thank "Tasha" for working w/my family in catering my brother's repass on 05/22/21. The food was amazing, and the price was VERY reasonable. We actually got more food than we expected. We took a leap of faith and agreed to have Mamma Lou's cater the occasion without ever tasting the food. I had the oxtail and it was succulent, the catfish was delicious. The green beans and the sweet potato casserole were great.

The food was hot and good. I ordered fish, but I asked for sweet potatoes and greens; however, when I got home I had sweet potatoes. I asked for cornbread, and wahhoo1!!! The cornbread was awesome!! read more

So far my wife and I have tried their fish and chicken, and three or four of their sides, as well as the desserts (all three of them!) Highly recommend! We got a three meat plate: chicken, oxtail and fish, Mac and cheese and mashed potato. The order taker that came to our car, and took our order was very kind and helpful. The chicken was accidentally missing from our order but they quickly rectified the situation kindly. The oxtail is an up charge. But well worth the 5.50$. Everything was simply delicious. This food was very disappointing!! The oxtail were huge, mostly fat and the gravy was extremely salty! The Mac and cheese was wet (watery) and tasteless. The greens, yams and cornbread were subpar and the fried chicken was mediocre. We ordered sweet tea and got unsweetened tea so we couldn't say it the meal was saved by the drink. I don't have words to tell you how much I loved my food. I ordered on UberEats and it arrived nice and warm. I had the 1 meat plate and got Fried Chicken with mac and cheese and sweet potatoes. There was a lot of food, I ate it for two meals. Now it's gone and I am sad. That chicken was the best fried chicken I have ever had...hands down. The mac and cheese was delicious and the sweet potatoes could have been my dessert, so sweet and wonderful. It was my first visit but will not be my last for sure. read more

I ordered the 2 meat plate, Catfish and smothered pork chops, sweet potato casserole, Mac and cheese and cornbread. I see this restaurant on Elders Eat and said I need to check them out. I was not impressed. The fried catfish seasoning was awful, but after peeling the coating off the catfish it was fresh and tasting. The Mac and cheese was very cheesy with a weird taste, the sweet potato casserole was ok but I have taste much better, The smothered pork chops was not all that, to me had too much salt on them. The cornbread was ok. Forget to mention the grape kool-aid, The kool-aid was way to sweet, I wonder do the critique their own food, if they did I think it would taste better. We tried this place after buying from the pollos asados next door (frequent customer) and was pleasantly surprised by the food. Everything was excellent. We have been going several times since then but today I was disappointed. We would order the 8 piece meal and it included dark and white meat. This time around when I got home to enjoy the meal I was disappointed to find only dark pieces of chicken. I eat white meat only so I had to reserve myself to eating the sides. I called to let them know and I was told that they are low on white meat and that if I wanted white meat I should have asked and that it was an extra charge. The drive up menu has no mention of this. In today's environment, restaurants are struggling to stay afloat and we customers are trying to help out when we can by purchasing their food. Please don't sell your customers short by doing this. You can easily lose customers this way and I know that's the last thing a restaurant wants. We will be going next door where we have never had issues with our food for now. Food is great however service this time around not so good. Please fix this. read more
